Solitary consequential mistake in 8 games

186

To be fair to St Mirren, despite losing by four goals at Celtic Park last month, they approached Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie in an equally expansive manner.  This resulted in another four-goal deficit, three of which came after they were reduced to 10 men.  In the league, they sit in a four-club group separated by three points, only three will make it into the top six.  If would be good for the league if they made it into the top half, more so if it is Livingston who drop to seventh.

Celtic did not look like Celtic until Reo Hatate replaced Aaron Mooy just after the hour.  Matt O’Riley and Oh came on at the same time but it was Reo who orchestrated play.  Celtic move so much quicker with him on the field.

Carl Starfelt will be annoyed with himself at the mistimed interception when led to the penalty St Mirren scored with.  It hardly merits analysis, but the moment stands out as the only consequential mistake the Celtic defence have made in 8 games.  For all our attacking prowess, defensive solidity is the bedrock this team is built on.  Defend well and trophies will follow.

I think Hearts’ fans will be happy/relieved.

They could have drawn the full-fat Huns, the only team in Scotland to find it easy at Tynecastle.

Now they know there’s a slight chance of progress.

    From earlier- Hearts can prioritise.

They are easily third in the league so can relax a bit in the league game.

Still agree that it’s our draw to win. Sevco get what they get 90% of the time – a team from a lower league at home. Another stat I would like to see analysed over ten years or so.

  4. thems had five cup ties this season where they could’ve been drawn home or away & landed a home tie 4 times, all against lower league opposition.

    League Cup: Dundee

  8. Correct me if I’m wrong ,on one of the Celtic Sites they are telling us that there is a general ticket sale for for the Hearts and Hibs league games at Celtic,I thought there was a waiting list for supporters to acquire a season ticket ?

  10. The draws are live and random my arse.

It must be statistically impossible for Celtic not to be drawn against sevco at some time before the final yet it never happens. The only time we get thems in the semi is when they doubt they can do it and want another team to meet them if we get thru. Bring on the wee Huns. We will beat all of them and get better trebles on.

  12. I can remember being in the Jungle in the 1990’s.

    Celtic v The Animals.

It was one of the few ( MAYBE ONLY ?), times that the Huns had HATELEY and DUNCAN FERGUSON playing up front in the same starting line up ?

At one point Frank MacAvennie was lying on the deck injured just outside the Huns penalty area.

Chris Morris of Celtic played the Ball out of play right in front of The Jungle, so that Frankie Bhoy could get some treatment.

As play resumed, The Huns player STEVEN PRESLEY was about to take the Throw In, and MAYBE he DID INTEND to throw the Ball back to Celtic….but one or Two of his Hun Team Mates were screaming for the Ball…including TREVOR STEVEN in midfield.

PRESLEY then took the Throw In and gave it straight to Trevor Steven in midfield, who looked up and delivered an excellent 30 yard pass to either HATELEY or FERGUSON ?

This VERY UNSPORTING BEHAVIOUR, almost led to a Hun Goal, as Celtic were caught out UNAWARES…..Fully EXPECTING Presley to Throw the ball back to Celtic…or for Trevor Steven to hump it up the Park, so that Celtic would regain easy possession well away from the Huns Goal ?

NEITHER happened, and as I say the Huns mounted a dangerous attack towards the Celtic Goal, from which they FAILED to score……Thankfully.

The Celtic support in The Jungle quickly rounded on PRESLEY and Trevor Steven .

it was the FIRST time that I had EVER Witnessed a UK and/or European Team DELIBERATELY REFUSE to give the Ball back to the opposition in such cirumstances.

i was prepared to cut PRESLEY some slack as he was a YOUNG Hun player and was taking orders from an older Trevor Steven etc….but even when he later signed for Celtic…I never forgave him totally.

    HUNS FC…..and UNSURPASSED DIGNITY….My ARSE !

    HH.

  13. I meant to add that The game above against the Huns finished 0 – 0.

Celtic did well to Draw the game, especially with the Ariel Threat up front that the Huns had that Day.

Of course there’s more chance of Celtic drawing the Rangers in the semi-finals than previous rounds.

The odds against drawing them in the last 16 are 14/1.

In the quarter-finals it is 6/1 and the semi-finals 2/1.

  16. With European football back this week I can’t help but think we should be involved.

A win in Warsaw was there for the taking and we would at least be in the Europa.

A different order of fixtures with Leipzig before they sacked the coach would have surely seen us through.

A bit of fortune against Madrid Int he opening tie when they were feeling it in Glasgow.

We should be there tonight. We have a squad to compete at that level. For the only time so far I feel Ange let us down. He transited his own anxiety onto the players who spoke of this as the pinnacle and one sensed they doubted they belonged there. This transmitted onto the park.

I hope he learns from that.

Europa Cup looks tough this year mine you but I would have loved a crack at it.

  17. BURNLEY78

Agreed. Our finishing in Warsaw was lamentable. We should have won that game with a bit to spare, as evidenced by the way Shakhtar celebrated getting a draw in the end.

Win that game and we’d be playing on Thursday.

More scans required this from tge bug guy himself …. .

The Aussie head coach said at the weekend that he was hopeful of Kyogo’s chances after suffering a similar injury last term. He explained: “It’s his shoulder. He had a similar one last year. We’ll just wait and see, we’ll get it scanned.
