Solskjaer back with old flame after over-shooting with looker

417

It’s been a fascinating day for Molde, who re-appointed former manager old Gunnar Solskjaer on a three year contract. The timing of this one is incredible, coming a few days after an international break, which would provide the perfect opportunity for the club to make changes and prepare for the challenges ahead.

After winning the league in 2014, their third Norwegian title in four years, Molde sit 7th with three games remaining. Recent form hasn’t been too bad. They have won each of their last two league games, scoring seven goals, and sit top of their Europa League group after drawing with Ajax. Interim boss, Erling Moe, had steadied the ship. You could argue he exceeded expectations.

Solskjaer won the first two of those titles, but his reputation faded in 2013, when an unknown young Stromdgodset coach stopped him winning three-in-a-row in 2013. He joined Cardiff City in January 2014 but could do nothing to arrest their slip into relegation and was sacked a month into their aimless Championship campaign.

He’s been carrying out various media and youth coaching roles since, waiting on the right job to come along. Molde have been looking for a permanent manager since parting company with Tor Ole Skullerud at the beginning of August. Solskjaer was reportedly their prime target back then but it looks like he’s held off until now, perhaps hoping for a gig in the well-heeled English game.

Apologies for the metaphor, but he dumped his girlfriend for a looker he knew from his student days, but who was way out of his league, so he soon found himself on the shelf. After spending months looking around he’s gone back to his old flame, who had let herself go but has got her act together in recent weeks.

I’m sure they’ll be very happy together. This is your time, Ronny. Beat them.

    “But it’s now a struggle as we are not run as a football club”

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    So, how do we change it? At least, make it a bit better?
    For me, change is happening but will take time and patience (see Auldheid posts)
    I believe that no Celtic supporter ever walks alone.
    That is my faith.
    Dynamo Kyiv were managed at the time by Victor Maslov, one of the most innovative of coaches, who invented the 4-4-2 formation , and the concept of the pressing game.
    … of course V.Maslov’s achievemnts pale in comparison with those of Mark Warburtonov.
  4. Let’s hope for a professional performance this evening.
  5. As well as wee GS’s horror show, throw in Basle under MON and Braga/Utrecht under NL and it would appear these results are very likely under any manager never mind a new 1.
    RD may well be into his 2nd season now but factor in the ever increasing amount of fixtures we have to play against teams that have lower budgets than us surely increases the amount of times we are going to have to suffer these results?
  6. Getting knocked out by Dynamo Kiev in 67 was all the more surprising as Celtic had beaten them comfortably in 66 . That was in the cupwinners cup when Celtic had a good run eventually going out unluckly to Liverpool in the semis? The Kiev game was one of my earlier games attended . 16yr old George Connelly doing his keepy-uppy at half-time. Did a complete lap of the pitch never letting the ball touch the ground.
    In retrospect Celtic’s defeat by a very good Dynamo Kiev team in 1967 should come as no surprise. Celtic were just into the start of their season and somewhat “cold” whereas DK would have been well into their season and pretty match fit.
    Good Morning to all Celtic supporters its a wild morning here in Central Scotland well tonight is a big game for the hoops if we manage an away win I believe that would put us in the driving seat in the group. However, with our poor away European record a draw would be a good result. H.H.
    Good morning fellow Tims.
    A strong, error free defensive performance, will set us up for a 2-0 away win tonight.
    Very confident of victory this evening in Norway.
    Hail Hail
  10. Being reminded of getting beat by the likes of Dynamo Kiev, put the letters MTK into my mind. I think that was the worst, having been 3 up from the 1st leg. But there have been plenty of others where we have been great situations and let it go.
    I wasn’t surprised .
    Paper boy me delivered papers and mags in posh west end Glasgow.One of my customers took France Football and Charles Buchan’s Football Monthly .I used to read them before I delivered them.Both of them covered European football.I knew about Dinamo Kiev.
    I also knew that the very good Soviet Union team of the period regularly featured Dinamo Kiev players.I had watched the likes of Sabo and Byshevetz playing ( on a wee black and white tele) in the 66 World Cup.
  15. Neil Lennon. Think it’s on record how we change it
    We reduce quantity of squad. Increase quality. Pay top wages for a few and let the youths play with them
    This however would be against the lawell policy which is dragging out club down
    Chief scout let it slip only interested in buying players who will have sell on value to EPL
    It’s not working. We cannot compete on the field in Europe against 2nd or 3rd rate teams
  16. Paul67
    The new bhoys need time to find their feet.
    Bhoyatta is the only 1 to have played with any regularity.
    Blackett, Janko and Ciftci have only featured sporadically and Simunovic just once.
    These guys could really do with the rest of the team to be at their best to get them settled in but too many of them have been picking up injuries, taking turns at having poor games, or just being rotated as there are so many fixtures.
    I agree that we are getting our act together, but the established players need to get into a groove now……bring their A-games to these European ties and give the new bhoys a foundation to get bedded into.
    No passengers.
    Taquinus- he has signed for the famous Glasgow Celtic, in preference to selling his soul to Sauron, the Dread Abomination.
    In the eyes of our fearless media such treachery deserves complete oblivion.
    Warburton on Villa radar
    MARK Warburton is reportedly on Aston Villa’s shortlist of replacements for Tim Sherwood, as the Villa Park board weigh up their options.
    Ex-Spurs boss Sherwood is set to be given a handful of games to turn things around, but it is understood that David Moyes is currently Villa’s number one target is Sherwood is emptied.
    But Gers boss Warburton, tipped for a Premier League job before joining Rangers, is also in the frame, while Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes could also be in the running. (Various)
    In case you haven’t noticed, everyone is beating anyone in football these days, change the record ffs.
    Why don’t you find a club you like and leave Celtic alone we have a big game tonight ffs give it a rest, moan moan moan,.
    I suppose a defeat tonight would cheer you up no end so that you can say….see I told you…..
    And I bet your looking forward to it too.
    Italian radio reporting that some Sevilla fans were attacked and seriously injured in Manchesfer last night .Plod atrested some of the perpetrators – Slask Wroclaw Ultras .Plod believe the attack was revenge for Seville Ultras attacking Slask fans and stealing their banners at a game in Seville a few years ago
  22. Dontbrattbakkinanger on
    if Warburton gets the Villa job, he’s bringin’ wee Debbie Mcghee in as his assistant.
  23. Re Scott Allan, He has been out injured but he is now back and has travelled with the squad to Norway. Jozo has also travelled so either or both could make the squad tonight. One would imagine if either of them are included it would be on the bench but I wouldn’t be totally shocked if Jozo started.
  24. I listened to a bit of ssb last night, and Mark Birtchill was one of the pundits on it (imagine that eh) they hung him out to dry, the verbal abuse he took from some of the gaw gaws who called in was shocking, a stitch up if ever I heard one, liberties where taken last night for one thing only, just to back up the man with the magic hat, shocking behaviour from Clyde, but not surprised one bit.
    Watching the supporters at the rugby world cup is a joy.
    Fantastic atmosphere and attitude and even done with booze.
    Its bad enough that there are too many despicable individuals and groups in the supports of so many football clubs that would ever allow such scenes to grace football terraces but to travel to another country to launch an attack on another clubs supporters who are there to watch their team take on completely different opposition takes the badness of these animals to another level.
    Saw a link on NewsnowCeltic for an article in the record saying that ‘Mark Burchill apologises to Nathan Oduwa after sevco condemn his…….’ but i refrained from clicking the link.
    Its reassuring to know now that there is going to be an outcry if anyone decides to ‘get intae you’ or just wants to ‘let you know they are there’ and our players will receive such support.
    AGM Query:
    I normally attend the Celtic AGM but can’t make it this year. I’ve Just received my AGM pack and don’t see any way to vote on the resolutions vial mail or electronically.
    Is it the case that if I don’t attend and vote in person, or allocate a proxy that my vote goes to Ian Bankier to do as he chooses? I’d rather not give him my voting rights as I doubt he would vote the way I would.
    If I’m missing something and it is possible to vote by post or on line can someone point me in the right direction. I’ve only skimmed the package contents so may have missed it.
    If its a no go, then if anyone fancies taking my rights as proxy then let me know.
    Good luck to our boys in Norway tonight.
