Solskjaer back with old flame after over-shooting with looker

417

It’s been a fascinating day for Molde, who re-appointed former manager old Gunnar Solskjaer on a three year contract. The timing of this one is incredible, coming a few days after an international break, which would provide the perfect opportunity for the club to make changes and prepare for the challenges ahead.

After winning the league in 2014, their third Norwegian title in four years, Molde sit 7th with three games remaining. Recent form hasn’t been too bad. They have won each of their last two league games, scoring seven goals, and sit top of their Europa League group after drawing with Ajax. Interim boss, Erling Moe, had steadied the ship. You could argue he exceeded expectations.

Solskjaer won the first two of those titles, but his reputation faded in 2013, when an unknown young Stromdgodset coach stopped him winning three-in-a-row in 2013. He joined Cardiff City in January 2014 but could do nothing to arrest their slip into relegation and was sacked a month into their aimless Championship campaign.

He’s been carrying out various media and youth coaching roles since, waiting on the right job to come along. Molde have been looking for a permanent manager since parting company with Tor Ole Skullerud at the beginning of August. Solskjaer was reportedly their prime target back then but it looks like he’s held off until now, perhaps hoping for a gig in the well-heeled English game.

Apologies for the metaphor, but he dumped his girlfriend for a looker he knew from his student days, but who was way out of his league, so he soon found himself on the shelf. After spending months looking around he’s gone back to his old flame, who had let herself go but has got her act together in recent weeks.

I’m sure they’ll be very happy together. This is your time, Ronny. Beat them.

    Apologies.

Firstly, I’ve described part of the situation wrongly. I was typing in haste in the car!

Those 400+ match day staff are employed directly by Celtic. They would be described in law as workers, not employees, because they work less than a certain number of hours/week.

They’re not being paid a LW.

They include kiosk staff, turnstile operators and stewards.

I used the phrase ‘agency staff’ when ‘sub contracted’ would have been more accurate.

What we’re seeking is that these sub contractors are also paid a LW. Now their employers don’t immediately have to agree to this. All they need to do is that at the point of their contract renewal there is an agreement that they would be paid a LW.

With this agreement in place Celtic could still be awarded accreditation.

I hope that you and most other posters do realise and appreciate that this isn’t about board bashing it’s simply about doing the right thing, especially in times of such austerity.

A third of a Lawwell bonus should cover it. He is a charitable Celtic man after all with the long term interest of the club at heart coupled with that laser vision future he sees for the club.

*As was mentioned previously he had a pretty good scoring record, 40 goals in 72 games. He was bought for 2 million and sold less than 2 year later for almost half of that. Looks like bader was the real flop here

My own feeling is that we already pay handsomely to Celtic. The LW should come out of the already considerable in comings.

  9. HT,the only point I disagree with you on,is that the “Incomings”are a lot less considerable now.

Some bringing up what some people at Celtic are earning. This has nothing to do with what others are earning, but I know that some want to add it on to their agenda of Celtic bashing.

There is enough to bash them with without bringing in nonsense.

  10. HamiltonTim,

Again, Cheers. I hope it wasn’t you who was driving. :)

I’m kinda just shootin the breeze on the subject. Looking for a wee bit clarity but I don’t really have strong feelings on the subject if I’m honest. I agree that a fair wage for all is must though.

I just feel a bit awkward ‘doing as I say and not as I do’ on the subject and I don’t know how comfy Id be with external forces controlling the wage I pay my employees.

It might have to come to that but I doubt there would be the stomach for it.

Perhaps if the issue became more widely known but see the journos contacted, one of whom has said “I know it stinks, you know it stinks” refuse to bring the story into the wider public domain, just how do you get enough folk aware of the deception?

Also who do you think prepared the narrative, with evidence and contacted so many media guys really LNS. The tooth fairy?

There has been a closing of ranks BUT with CF being cleared and his testimony there if required, I don’t see the let’s just ignore defence holding. My fear is the court case might be another cause of delay but only a year. Not 16.

I’ve been told one national paper who has the narrative is interested in publishing and another journo is waiting until the court case clears the way but there have been disappointments there before so I’m not making promises.

  12. Derk Borrigter has cost us at least £3m so far maybe as much as £5m with more to come as his contract runs until 2017. Puts the living wage debate in perspective.

  13. Turkeybhoy

I agree mate that our in comings are less on account of our failure to qualify for the CL.

However, as a multi million pound company I’ve no doubt it’s achieveable should the plc wish to do so.

    GM

Naw I was sitting outside the TO :-)

Celtic also use this argument about external forces but I’m afraid I don’t buy it. We’re talking about a LW here not Fat Sally’s pay off :-)

    Good Afternoon

I see a lot of chat about the Living Wage issue and as usual for me it raises a concern and potentially misses a point.

A question that should be asked of Celtic PLC is whether or not they employ people on zero hours contracts?

I believe that the club certainly did until recently and may still do so.

Most employees in the retail sector do not receive the living wage if they have a zero hours contract and even accredited living wage employers can escape paying the living wage to those on zero hours contracts.

I believe that some people, even up to manager level, in the Celtic shops are employed on zero hours contracts and that is a disgrace.

    BRTH

  16. HamiltonTim

So you think other employees of Celtic should give up part of their wages to meet a principle you feel strongly about?

Or do we cut back on other areas that then has an impact on the service Celtic provide their support?

I’m sorry. I back a living wage, but at my expense nor somebody else’s as long as the cost is not excessive. Affordability has to be a factor.

I think the matter needs to be thought through from the basic principle where does the additionality come from?

Otherwise it can take on the perspective TD67 sees it from, which in my view serves absolutely no one. It’s divisive and serves neither the CST or Celtic.

I think you should get back around the table and find a solution where everyone wins.

  17. Re living wage

Is it not government policy to implement the living wage over a period of time? (hence the furore over tax credits being limited at mo)

So if it is to become a legal requirement maybe we should plan ahead for it.ways can always be found

to incorporate the cost to Celtic,

i think Celtic as posted by Geordie/CRC pay the living wage but the problem comes dealing and ensuring those who do business with us use the living wage too and the temporary nature of how we employ those contractors/individuals.

I think Celtic should lead from the front here,

Celtic, set up to benefit the impoverished so lets have no working poor in the future at Celtic,

The financial assault on the poor and needy by this govt will continue, being an accredited living wage payer would be a bulwork against that imo.

    :-)

    Auldheid,

    quick question.

The law of the land holds no sway with the SFA. If they chose to ignore any court rulings they can without fear. In fact with complete encouragement from UEFA and nothing from Celtic if things remain the same

So does that mean that the court case could result in further legal action between and only between Celtic shareholders ?

  19. Bada Bing

Tried that. :) Sent an abbreviated LNS narrative to the Sunday Herald.

As I recall they were afraid if libel, but since then the removal of charges against CF might take away that excuse.

I’m waiting to hear developments in that area but believe me there is copious evidence of skullduggery that has been kept from public view because of the provenance of that material.

It’s why Res12 is still having to act behind the scenes but I know of one journalist who is in the know whom I believe was lied to his face and when the provenance dam breaks it will take away all SFA legitimacy if he and others resent being treated as fools.

  20. The thing is about Lawwell, he is somebody who has worked for every penny of his fortune while making Celtic a success.

The Celtic board believe that the 1 million a year (including bonus) is worth paying for a guy of his caliber. Would it really be in the club be better off by throwing away stability for somebody who gets paid less? Let’s not forget that Lawwell’s increase in wage was a result of a job offer from Arsenal.

  21. I imagine with some of the game time they have played there are a number of players in the squad are on zero hour contracts and getting paid handsomely for it

I think your misrepresenting me P.

I’m not saying that I want to rob Peter to pay Paul (well unless that Peter has a surname of Lawell :-))

Additionally I personally would be happy to pay additional money if it ensured that all those employed at Celtic received a LW. However, I can’t see how that would work and I don’t see it as a viable solution.

The board have either lied or deliberately misled over this issue for 3 years now. It’s time for them to do the right thing.

I hope yer keeping well auld yin.

A new National Living Wage to reach £9 per hour by 2020, compulsory for those over 25 – that is 60pc of median earnings.

    • It will start at £7.20 next April, and be set then on by the Low Wage Commission, in line with the £9 target. That compares with the National Minimum Wage of £6.50 for over-21s currently.

It might come to that if Celtic as a member of the SFA cannot sue the national association.

I understand that is the case and at some point it might have to go in the direction you state ie that shareholders sue privately. That’s why our lawyers are taking the lead and why we engaged them.

However I think there are good reasons for the SFA to avoid going that way but they just haven’t grasped them yet.

The facts as far as I’m concerned re Res12 are.

RFC lied to UEFA to keep the licence in June/July 2011.

RFC failed to notify the SFA at all of the arrival of the tax bill on 20th May 2011as required by UEFA FFP.

This enabled the lie to UEFA to go unquestioned by SFA, however

The SFA were well aware then of the outstanding liability and were negligent if not complicit in not obtaining the proof of no tax overdue payables under Art66 of FFP at that time.

There is evidence of SFA complicity that has still to be presented to them including encouragement in Sept 2011 to RFC to overcome another FFP rule which RFC then lied to do.

The SFA in my view know all this took place and in trying to keep the lid on it are depriving Celtic shareholders of justice, not to mention compensation for not doing their job properly in the summer of 2011.

The only thing I would like to see is an expression of controlled anger from Celtic at some point that the SFA have been pissing about both shareholders and Celtic in their pursuit of the truth.

  30. Afternoon all,

Very excited about the game tomorrow. Despite working in Oslo now and again was unable to justify to my boss a trip up North where we have no clients! :(. Anyone know how many we’re planning to take tomorrow night? As I understand the ground holds around 8,000, is a tight little ground right by the water, should be a great setting…..

We have to forget the fact we should have taken minimum 4 points already. 1 great goal aside (even for that one Lustig made an interesting decision to commit) we have gifted 3 goals which have cost us 4 points and let the opposition off the hook at key times in the 2 games. Concentration for 90 mins is key tomorrow night. I’d like to see Kris given the number 10 role. His part in Nadir’s goal on the weekend was massively underestimated. The first touch from behind him – then immediate instinct to try and score – was phenomenal.

OGS coming back adds a little extra spice, hopefully it will motivate us at least as much as them. I take comfort from the fact if there’s 1 game Ronnie will want us to give a good account of ourselves in this season, it’s tomorrow night…….

  31. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan supports Oscar Knox, MacKenzie Furniss and anyone else who fights Neuroblastoma

Everybody that ever temped was on a zero hours contract and if you’re doing it between ‘real’ jobs it’s absolutely what you want, as you have no notice period and are therefore available for immediate start. Of course that swings both ways and you can be without a job on very short notice.

Most agencies will have you back in work as fast as possible, as it’s not in their interest to have you seeking work from other agencies.

Naturally there are crooks that will exploit the system but that’s what needs corrected rather than the whole notion of zero hours/temping.
