Some perspective first. Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager. He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League. I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.
Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play. Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.
His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long. He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game. His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.
Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams. He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim. He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.
Please bear in mind………..
Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria. They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners. Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

I’d like the manager to be able to make Big Macs.

Cant see why anyone would be anyway excited by this appointment
A nobody from a league that maybe worse than our own
According to espnfc Ronnie said
“It is interesting to see how Liverpool work,” he added. “They recruit young players because they cannot afford to buy the biggest stars, and the project is developing smoothly.”
if he thinks liverpool cant afford a start player wait until he sees who we cant afford!
and its goodnight from him

Natknow,
I think Paul67 has blogged twice in the last fortnight about the process in getting a new manager. I admit that Keane got further than some candidates. Or did he?
—————————————————————————————–
Yeah – fair point mate. I’d have thought the first step in the process is to identify someone that meets the spec for the job. If we spoke to Roy, it kinda sounds like that spec might be quite wide. However, I imagine there are those in the hierarchy who would argue there’s “no harm in having a word” to see if he’s interested.
Maybe we can have a new song. ‘It’s a long way to Tippeligaen’
Is Ronnie O’Deila Irish?

More Ron Manager quotes coming up today…. :-)
” I expect to see a dak horse on the rails taking up the race and we wil be very surprised. My guess is a European in his early forties, with a decent playing pedigree and modest CV, that appears to be our model lately.”
who said that? I did last night….WTF do I know ?
Paul67 –
“good tactician” blah blah blah
“brings on youth” blah blah blah
“his players are athletes” blah blah blah
“attacking philosophy” blah blah blah
Does he know the words to A Soldier’s Song?

More than most apparently!
What’s you numbers for the Euromillions this week? :-)
TET,
If we can. Get this guy, or similar, over the line, you and I, amongst a few others, will be happy wee boys.
It will also be a huge slap in the face to the media.
I hope, whoever it is, only speaks to the hacks via an interpreter.
Too early to get excited, but it is difficult to stay calm, if the “three similar candidates” claim is fact.

Stromsgodset head coach Ronny Deila has been identified by Celtic as a strong contender for the Scottish champions managerial vacancy.
Other candidates are being considered, but Deila’s reputation as a young, intelligent and contemporary coach has impressed Celtic.
No official approach has yet been made and the Stromsgodset are playing Tromso in the Norwegian Cup.
That would make further developments unlikely on Wednesday.
BBC deffo following these pages closely.

It was just an observation bud, nothing more. :-) Whoever gets the position will get my full support, as usual. :-))

They need to get their news from somewhere!
Any reprints on the BBC from last night’s blog? :-)
Liking the sound of this guy Deila.
You must have some idea about what you’re doing if you can, at a young age, take a small, provincial club from complete obscurity to runners up spot in the league and then follow that up by winning it despite competition from much larger clubs such as Rosenborg and Brann Bergen.
Seems to me that it’s time for Ronny to take the next step in his managerial career.
Let’s go for it, Peter.
Apologies to kitalba but Nevin is no intellectual. Wearing a funny hat and expressing a liking for The Smiths, even when you are young and impressionable, doesn’t make you smart. He like so many others has nothing to tell us about a new coach for Celtic. We are so insular and parochial that we’ve heard of no one beyond UK and Ireland. Our ‘ football writers’ know nothing of European players and coaches.
We need someone of intelligence and integrity, a motivator and man manager who has a sound tactical knowledge of the game, someone who can read a game and alter his tactics accordingly. How often have we seen our managers standing at the dugout in Celtic Park as if they are waiting for a bus? I’ve never heard of this Ronny Deila, but if he has these characteristics, has had some success, is shown to have transformed a team and has potential to step up to the Celtic job then why not. There could be others out there with similar talents. We must cast the net widely and not narrow the leet down to Ex-Celts or ‘Celtic Minded’ managers who have been found wanting elsewhere.
Idle speculation.
Maybe Celtic knew in January that Neil was leaving and had their eye on this lad.
Yes, that must be it, as why else would they bring in Johanssen.
Now, that’s what I call forward planning!
Sedatives, please nurse!
Weefrae
I concur, absolutely!
I think Delia shuld get The Swedish Chef off The Muppets as his assistant.
Ooby dooby doo!
If Celtic are looking to recruit players from Norway, Finland, Sweden, etc.
The cheaper markets so to speak but players who are able to adapt to our game quickly and usually know the language then it makes sense to recruit a manager from that part of the world.
I’m not sure this guy will be the man but what is clear is that Celtic are leaking potential candidates to gauge fan reaction on social media and sites such as this one.
LB
Ronny Deila is 1.88 metres tall.
If he gets the gig he will be the tallest ever CFC manager surely?
Cant imagine sleekit whispering in his ear!
HH!!

Should have added that the following year we wrote off £3.8M of value from Mowbray’s signings, and took a further hit of £1.2M to terminate him, in addition to the bald numbers above.

What is interesting about the RK scenario is how a fan base that 8 yrs ago would have torn yer arm off for such a signing basically rejected him for not fitting into the Celtic strategy.
I blame Paul Brennan with all this Moneyball and Soccernomics talk. Some folk say Paul is PL’s mouthpiece.
The obviously never saw The Usual suspect or heard of the master of deception Keyser Zose.
We’re watching you Brennan. ;)
Seriously I think DD thought it worth a box office punt and it was all about testing the water. Interesting how it panned out.
I felt the knife in my hand-

Natknow, yikes!!!
I hope not ;)

that`s easy, the wrong ones.

– he’s like Lord Hail- Hail.
As opposed to Dick Byrne, who wears PL’s codpiece

This article was up pretty lively…

Ronny Deila.
Did I get that right?
If not he is stuck with it, but then again there is predictive text.
How successful is our youth set up in comparison to other European Clubs

“but what is clear is that Celtic are leaking potential candidates to gauge fan reaction on social media and sites such as this one.”
I can’t say I agree with that.
Mon sneezed first regarding Keane. Msm mentioned deila before cqn.
Auldheid
All very interesting.
What I would say is that when Roy Keane was being signed as a player there was a similiar debate online as to whether we needed him or not, with a significant proportion saying no.
It didn’t stop thousands being there to see him paraded or the frenzy when he took to the field!
Interesting times ahead, I see talk of Friday but I would expect a manager to be in place by next Tuesday at the latest.
HH
Is Deila a burd??
What will you do when you get lonely
No one is waiting by your side?
You’ve been running and hiding much too long
You know it’s just your foolish pride
Deila, you got me on my knees
Deila I’m begging darlin’ please
Deila, darling won’t you ease my worried mind?
I don’t think that it is of vital importance what level a coach is working at.
He either understands the game or he doesn’t.
He either has tactical ideas or he doesn’t.
A student of the game doesn’t stand still.
He seeks to adjust his style to combat developments in the game.
Most UK managers have a preferred style, which they adhere to throughout their career.
This eventually becomes jaded and obsolete, as do their careers.
If they are lucky, they get an International job.
Deila is quoted as saying that he bases his style on Klopp, but at the level his team plays at.
Whether it’s public park or Camp Nou, the only difference is the ability of the players to play a system at the level at which they compete.
