Some background on Ronny Deila

1408

Some perspective first.  Ronny Deila, manager of Norwegian champions Stromsgodset, is not about to be appointed Celtic manager.  He does, meet the criteria, unlike the various one-season wonders cast aside from the English Premier League.  I believe there are two other strong candidates, Ronny has no pre-eminence at this stage, but unlike the various ‘favourites’ who have appeared in recent times, at least he is a genuine possibility.

Stefan Johansen worked under Ronny immediately before joining Celtic, which gave club scouts an insight into the coach’s style of play.  Stromsgodset are predominantly an attacking team, who press high up the field and pass quickly.

His players are dedicated athletes or they don’t remain his players for very long.  He is also one of the game’s intellectuals, a former teacher – and what I’ve been asking for since Neil resigned – a student of the game.  His attitude to his own role is one of continual professional development.

Ronny has a track record of improving players and improving teams.  He is not a brand name, nor a shareholder’s whim.  He is not being considered because he’s ‘pals with Peter and out of a job’.

Please bear in mind………..

Ronny Deila is only one of three genuine contenders Celtic are considering at the moment but all three match the same criteria.  They are intelligent, technically adept, progressive, winners.  Which has made me more excited than any of the names suggested so far.

From the Daily Record who are “shocked” at the possibility of Ronny Deila emerging as a candidate – i.e. they did not have a clue what was going on:

“The Scottish champions had been hoping to land a box-office name in a bid to boost season-ticket sales.

But they have already seen moves form Parkhead icon Henrik Larsson and former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane falter.

The lack of competition with Rangers currently languishing in the lower leagues and the relative lack of financial clout compared to clubs in England has made their attempts to lure a big name to Glasgow’s east end a tricky task.

However, it now appears they are ready to risk appointing another inexperienced coach, just as they did when Lennon was handed the manager’s role back in 2010.”

I posted vehemently against Roy Keane. From my little knowledge, this guy sounds an exciting candidate. If he can get us flowing from back to front via Biton and Johansen with movement from Commons, Stokes, Griffiths we could have an exciting season ahead.

We may as well make the most of next season because, when (if) Kenny Miller is back against us the year after, we will have no chance of the league or any cups.

Deila does not strike me as a very Norwegian sounding surname.

    There are Tallies everywhere!

    Even Norway allegedly!

  4. Glad to read this article.

However, it does lend some credence to those who were asking about Roy Keane – does DD interfere? Was it a ‘favour’ to put him in the spotlight?

I’m hoping it was just a smokescreen to allow Celtic to do their work without fanfare elsewhere.

Anyway, if Paul67 is correct, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, we seem to be back on project, if we were ever off of it.

I must also confess, I am ignorant of coaches and players in other leagues – so I have to reserve judgement on any such candidate.

  5. Yep,he will do for me.I have said all along we need someone like this.A forward thinking European coach. His resume sounds like he is in the Klopp,Yakin mould.Attacking,fitness,flair..You want bums on seats, give us these three things.

    All for this appointment.

Another inexperienced coach?? The people who write for that comic are clueless. Since when has 6 years as a manager equate to inexperienced?

So, “Airport Watch”™, (Keech Jackson on twitter), will have to wait.

I think you should leave all questions of height measurement to the professionals.

Plucking numbers out of the ole ether is neither scientific nor morally justifiable.

  15. MWD

    Fascinating…every day’s a school day…..

    From the interweb…

In 1938, Ford received the German Eagle from the German consul in Cleveland. James D. Mooney, of General Motors, received a similar award. Charles Lindbergh received one as well.

In the 1920’s, Ford operated a private newspaper, known as the “Dearborn Independent,” in which a series of articles, entitled, “The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem,” was published. See http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/intern_… These articles were used as propaganda in Germany, and doubtless made Ford a favorite with Hitler. Ford later claimed that the articles were published without his knowledge (laughable in light of the control he exercised over operations) and apologized.

  16. “Celtic made the approach last night. The Godset board have responded today with a hands off warning. Deila under contract until 2016.”

“Deila have informed Godset that he wants to become the Celtic-manager. Suprised if they dont agree compensation. Big opportunity for him”

im not sure how you know that he is a better candidate than owen, jackie malky etc

its just a matter of opinion (yours and mine too!)

i dont think anyone at all expected guardiola or christiano Ronaldo

i dont understand why its assumed that a norwegian (or any european for that matter) is automatically better than any of the 4 managers that you mentioned because of their nationality

he has no experience of big games or big leagues

he has won 2/3rds of nothing

    he is unknown

i feel certain that his appointment will not put any bums on any seats

(i think thats a requirement for consideration)

and if norwegian fitba is on a par with scottish fitba are celtic only as good as rosenburg?

and even if we are on a par with norways finest, should we not aim a bit higher?

I havent ventured out to see other tim sites yet, but Im guessing disappointment will reign and hilarity will prevail outside the celtic family

if he gets the job i hope he proves me wrong big time and i will admit it, but it looks like another project to me.

I guess every signing is a gamble, but some signings are a bigger gamble than others and he looks like a rank outsider .

its all about opinions but just because he beat rosenburg once doesn’t excite me in the slightest im afraid. I hope this is a decoy from P67, I genuinely do.

  18. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

MWD- Ford had big business in Germany before the war, making trucks, which are very useful if you want to invade someone.

I even think aftet the war Ford approached the Allies for reparations for the damage caused to his factories by the RAF and USAAF.

Also HF’s views on race were not that much out of kilter with Herr Schickelgruber’s.

The Daily fecking Record. Give me strength. The same ‘newspaper’ that gave us ‘Celts sign a dud Czech’ despite the fact that the man in question was a Slovak. That man was none other than Lubomir Moravcik.

Auldheid, thanks for that link about Deila. Very interesting stuff.

  20. ***And today’s winner is the illustrious MWD***

  22. The Green Man on

Who are the other two candidates then?

Strange football politics shenanigans…Down with football despotism

    Wheel the virtual guillotine in.

    I suspect a split in the DD&PL “Strategy”…..Good news.

Like I said yesterday…maybe that smokescreen can be spun into a magical invisible cape to make DD&PL disappear in to the ethereal mist….failing that, we will have to put up with their delusions of business grandeur.

Anyway….don’t be fooled by the spin.
