Of all the supporter-related offenses Uefa are disciplining football clubs on at the moment the use of lasers annoys me most (with the appropriate caveat for health and safety matters).
Racism, health and safety violations, violence flares are all appropriate reasons to sanction a club but it’s always bothered me that Uefa seem to let the continental fashion for shining powerful lasers into the faces of opposing players and managers was not tackled appropriately.
I was, therefore, pleased to hear Uefa disciplined Olympiacos for, among a rich litany of offenses, their fans pointing a laser at Anderlecht players during their recent Champions League game. The Greek club have been ordered to close the more colourful part of their stadium for their last 16 game against Manchester United.
It will surprise few of us that despite the Greeks being sanctioned for using lasers, Milan have gone unpunished, despite their fans pointing lasers at Celtic players during our recent drubbing.
These games are supervised and televised from multiple angles. If the use of lasers attracts a punishment, and it should, the rules must apply without fear or favour.

I have just watched a Finnbogason compilation showing his 24 goals last (?) season . I can see why no big club has, apparently, come in for him. He actually does not look all that skillful but he does put the ball in the net. Kris Boyd was, and to a lesser extent still is, like that. I can`t decide if I would like Celtic to buy him. At £ 5 million it would be a heck of a risk.I certainly would not want him bought just to appease anxious fans.
JJ
Yes I agree with you.Why would we even be interested in a guy who in his last 47 games has scored,55 goals.Think if you go back a wee bit further he is nearly registering a goal a game .Lets go out again and spend £5-7 million on guys who could only ever dream of stats like this. What a gamble this would be.FFS,I really do despair sometimes.
SFTB,
And another thing now that Im on the lash :o)
James Forrest doesnt have the heart to be a Celtic player, a wee man going nowhere fast, bottle merchant that couldnt match McGinn’s commitment and never will, sorry pal, I know you are a big fan but I just cant see it, sparrowheart is no good enough, aye he can run fast big deal.

I was not listing potential Celtic forwards. I was making the point that some players fit some teams and do not fit others. Finbogasson could be a Rhodes, a Cascarino, or n Alfonso Alves. Or he might turn out to be as good as his fans say he will be.
The only expectation I manage is my own and I know a £5m striker does not even begin to address the financial gap that exists between us and the teams we have to tilt at to get out of a CL group stage and into last 16 and beyond. Talent and scouting will get us there. Our own earned finance will not dent it.
TOSB
I did know the circumstances. I was being coy (and obtuse obviously)
Sftb
Niall is much improved. Remember he out scored Hooper in SPL last year.
IMO he would be another Mulgrew …
After BRT&H’s excellent post earlier this afternoon re the CQN ANNUAL further orders have come in and copies are on their way to the following destinations in time for Christmas and with a £5 donation from each one to the Malawi Kitchen.
Order before 3pm tomorrow to guarantee delivery before Christmas to UK addresses. Overseas Celts might have to wait but we’ll post immediately and get the Annual to you by fastest means possible.
Talking of overseas Celts, I received a lovely message today from Willie Wallace – he’s been ill recently with a severe bout of shingles which he would not wish on anyone. After wishing us all a very happy Christmas he proceeded to moan to me about the Celtic performance in Barcelona! – as if I was personally responsible! Anyway he has asked me to pass on his best wishes to everyone on CQN for Christmas. He finishes off by saying – “After around thirty years in Australia it is still really hard to get used to sunshine at Xmas!”

Also, McCoist’s vote move wasn’t significant. The board may even have sanctioned it to keep fans onside.They catch on quick >}

A Celtic fan brought that to his attention the other night on snyde, the panel kind of started to slag him off, but the guy stuck by his guns…… and the penny dropped, they all ended up agreeing it was a good point….

setting free the bears:
‘We both saw him play here and James Forrest is an upgrade on what we had with Niall. He is a good Celtic man but just fell short of making it here and did not do enough to make Brentford want to keep him.’
============================================
Shame no one had the foresight to give him a run up front or at least more centrally – could have made all the difference.
Paddy McCourt was given 66 games in 5 years to make a mark, McGinn was given 28 and 3 years.
If we’d reversed those stats I reckon McGinn would still be a Celtic player.

Yes indeed. Apparently, the New Tricks team are reviewing the case on behalf of Polis Scotland and have called in The Mentalist to assist now that he’s dealt with Red John.
Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire,
Hit the nail on the head.Too many wringing their hands”What if he is a dud”.”What if he does not fit in to our style of play”What style?.Do they mean endless balls across the middle, and back.He probably would not fit into this style, but if you mean getting the ball into the opponents box, different story. He has done it at every club he has played for.If you want 100% cast iron certainty, then buy Messi,Ronaldo.
MickTT
I said that the board would have sanctioned it as soon as I heard he did it, no way he would have done it without their say so, he doesn’t have the balls.

I think it is easier to score goals for Aberdeen against SPL opposition, than it is for Celtic, because teams are not as defensive minded when they play Aberdeen.
BTW I like Niall as a player, but I think we should be raising the bar higher in our search for a goalscorer.HH.
canamalar
I am still backing the obvious talent of James Forrest, and I know I am in a dwindling number, but I doubt not his ability, potential, speed, bravery nor goals.
I have been on CQN long enough to know that the prevailing orthodoxy about a player (Fraser Forster was a 3rd choice goalie, Kelvin Wilson was a waste of a big money Bosman signing, Izzaguire has lost it, Broonie is a hun, Sammi is a waste of a jersey/ A football God/no! wait a minute! he’s a waste again, Ki is a project and Ambrose is a bombscare) can change after one game far less, a month.
I can wait till James proves you all wrong again :-)
Fanadpatriot
If we raise the bar higher, I bet we’ll score more goals :-))
SFTB,
We cannot/should not, after our experience, think price matters.
Henke made a mockery of what we need to spend and showed that success does not come at a price.
So any argument about not being able to address the difference on that score is moot IMO.
You listed a load of failures but they got the chance, there are a few in there we could sell to cover the transfer problem being it might mean paying out wages the board need to keep to ensure the corporate transfer strategy has a chance.
PrawnsandwichCSC
I can wait till James proves you all wrong again :-)
Long wait methinks…:0)……

Nobody wants 100% guarantees. We just want the scouts to recommend, and the manager to buy, the players they think can do a job for the club, not the ones that the fans have the hots for. Otherwise we can forget the wages for Managers and Scouts and just employ an X Factor vote for team selection.
It’s a bit like The Living Wage proposal and Ryan Gauld, in that both are good targets, but many of us calling it a disgrace that we don’t have both of them, had been unaware of their joint existence two months before it became a disgrace to not have them.
Cultsbhoy-When we signed McGinn,i looked at youtube clips (i know,i know} ,a lot of goals he scored were through the middle. When he got starts for us it was wide right{a common Celtic trait btw},i thought he was there to get some experience then given a chance through the middle. Not to be.He has done very well at Aberdeen, but unsure if he is good enough to return.Good call the other night btw.HH

Was told last week that JP was adamant that Fonbogason at £5M or anything near it was a NO NO from him.
Well that settles it then.John Park, the man who brought us such great strikers as,Bangura,Murphy,Brozek,Pukki, etc. The man would not recognize a striker if he found one in his soup.
Nobody is demanding we sign Alfie, just get us a striker that does what it says on the label. If £5 million is the going rate, then bloody pay it.Fed up with this faffing around.
SFTB,
Another list, and I hope you’ll remember the only one of that list that annoyed me was FF because he took too long to make up his mind, everyone else I backed to the hilt.
For me JF’s only obvious talent is starting the Mexican wave, spends too long claiming fouls he knows he’s not going to get, then goes in a huff, petulant and precious is not a Celtic players heart.
SFTB
It’s a disgrace we didn’t know :¬)
SFTB,
“We need a player that fits. Just because, thus far, Pukki, Boerigter, Balde, Bangura and Murphy have not fitted in, does not mean that a ready scorer for Heerenveen will.”
Turkybhoy.
“Too many wringing their hands”What if he is a dud”
I’d disagree.
In my opinion I’d say the guys who have argued against the board paying north of 5m for finbog will back him to the hilt.

Bhoys and Ghirls,
I will always remember Harald Brattbakk fondly due to the St Johnstone game. What a party
I have not seen too much of Finnbogason to comment but it could be yet another expensive project. Slightly worrying that we have been feeling this guy out for months and he is still very much available.
HH, Always in Celtic.
==================================================================
I distinctly remember watching a game which I think was against St Johnstone curiously enough and Brattbak scored a hat trick?
He stood on the shoulder of the last defender at the halfway line………Stubbs would float the ball into the dead space between defender and goalkeeper and off Brattbak would go……..3 goals later!
I often wondered why we buy players who make a name for themselves playing a certain way then ask them to play another?
Its not what you have at your disposal that counts (they are all good enough) its how you deploy and utilise them that is key………
…and I’ll keep saying it…….we need real deal midfielders…….not strikers.
Make enough chances from midfield and our 18 year olds will score 20 a season…….its all about service and percentage conversion IMO

Not a hope we will spend 5m on a player.
I agree with you mate.We will buy a cheap alternative, and be in a worse position next year.A raft of duds. But we will have money in the bank.Loads on here now worrying how we will pay a striker now.Used to be the huns they used ,now its Spurs.Hope they all get what they deserve.

I get it now.
As for failures, I see most of them as being “not yet successes”
But I would not be sad to see Mo bounce off to pastures new.

I know Alfie’s stats are great and if we get him I hope he is the real deal.
The video footage just raised some concerns for me in terms of the type of goals scored, the defending at the time and so on.
Hey but what do I know about the price of eggs?
Canamalar
I have said it repeatedly– someone wants to show James Forrest endless footage of wee Jimmy so he learns how to get kicked. The boy has talent and pace, but he goes down like a twelve year old playing dead man’s fall on a pile of grass cuttings — and gets up just about as quickly.
If he could up the “end product” stats he would be a far better and more effective player.
Doooooh :))
No matter your opinions this is a worthy cause

Greendreamz,
I think we have the midfielders, the last two high scoring games proved that to me, JF and DB are surplus to requirements, we have wing backs that can do their job better than they can, trick being the wingers cant track back, so get the dough for the wingers and use real midfielders who can attack and defend, neither JF or DB can. Michael is better than JF and Izzy is better than DB, so why ?
Turkeybhoy
We already have what we deserve.
A living breathing continuing football club.
Today is a very apt day to be thankful for that.
Now I know that one £5m punt will not break our back. The trouble is I don’t believe we would be satisfied with one. If he’s a relative success, we will be urging the Board to do it again and again because it worked the last time. If he’s crocked and injured we won’t be saying “Shame! we gave it a go and we’ll just gave to live with it” but instead will be saying ” Get us another one cos this one’s broken!”. And, if he’s a dud at £5m, we will blame it on the manager and scouts for listening to us.
I’m puzzled as to why so many are writing off Amido Baldie as a striker.
He’s not played many games but he has scored a few goals.
Whats the point in bringing him on in the last 5 minutes of a game.
Hes not been given a fair chance .
Turkeybhoy
In the past couple of seasons…..
Murphy 1m ish
Bangura 1.25m ish
Miku Loan
Lassad Free
Pukki 2m ?
Balde 1.25m ?
A fair few bob in wages, and only a handfull of goals between them.
If we had pushed the boat out and spent on a Proven striker, or even got one on a free, and paid him a decent wedge, who knows !!!!
