Some reasons why Celtic will drop a lot of points

960

I was surprised Ronny Deila thought immediately after the game that Dedryck Boyata’s red card was valid, from the angle behind the goal it looked a well-time tackle, but let’s deal with the manager’s complaint against the player, who put a challenge in when wrong side of the attacker.

We’ve see three Celtic central defenders in this position in recent weeks: Efe against Ross County, Erik against Inverness and Dedryck last night. Erik was outpaced by Jordan Roberts but instead of risking a challenge from behind his opponent, he stayed on his feet and forced Roberts to shoot under pressure. Efe clumsily barged into his opponent and Dedryck went to ground.

All three got their starting positions wrong, which could have cost a goal, but Ambrose and Boyata compounded the problem by attempting a recovery, also from a wrong position. Sviatchenko chose to put pressure on the player and leave matters up to his goalkeeper. Erik made the right decision, Efe and Dedryck made wrong decisions.

And before Erik relaxes in the glow of praise, it was his unnecessary barge into an opponent which conceded the foul which led to the corner kick Accies equalised through. Don’t give away stupid fouls and you don’t allow opponents to fire the ball into your box.

And yes, the goal we lost came from a corner kick (I’m assuming those who were animated earlier in the season about zonal marking somehow overlook the same lack of ball-winning skills from the same players now we’re marking man-for-man). I’ve never known a team to lose so many goals from corners. We have a collection of players who cannot follow the flight of a football when launched into their box from a corner.

I know there’s a belief that you cannot practice penalty kicks, as the pressure of hitting them during a match changes everything. This is nonsense. Our poor penalty conversion rate over the last five or six years has cost us trophies. Ironically, John Collins has the best penalty conversion rate of any player in Celtic history (who’s taken more than 5).  You would think he’d be able to sort this.

Poor technique is a consequence of poor preparation.

When Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring from the penalty spot it came as a great relief, as until then we were unable to create a genuine chance. A big part of the job at Celtic is breaking down packed defences away from home. There are largely two ways to achieve this:

1. Master the act of quick and precise passing

2. Have target men and wide players who are excellent at crossing the ball.

If we don’t have either play in our locker we’re going to drop a lot of points.

We have no option now but to stick.

He should have gone after the Legia Warsaw debacle.

I made up my mind then.

But our problems are now deeper routed.

Whoever is scouting the players needs replaced.

Cifti,Col,Kazeem Richards,GMS,Armstrong,Christie ,Boyata,Blackett, are not players who will take Celtic into the CL.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether Euro2016 will impact on our preparations or the qualifiers?

Whether we will be looking for a new manager and/or bringing in new players, who may be involved in that competition.

Personally, I think our January recruitment

has been influenced by the need to have our squad in place.

Even though Ajer won’t be joining till then, he will be up to speed, having started his season in March.

i hope this helps, the final played on the 10th i would love to have a Celtic player play but alas i cant see it this time,it could hinder our attempts to get players if that is the market we are in.

  5. Yeah It is a tough one but for me no matter what Ronnie must be replaced next season get the new man in and I hope he will see what we see, there is a good team in there somewhere just Ronnie can’t see it.

I am also gutted that Ronnie hasn’t worked out , I have not had my Ronnie Roars T on this whole season. I can no longer defend him and i think the season ticket sales (no doubt renewal forms will be out soon) will reflect the supports feeling and the board will react accordingly. I realize there is a school of thought that think Ronnie is in with the bricks now as PL has back him. Money talks Bhoys especially where Peter is concerned and if he see’s the season tickets not selling due to the quality of football he will sack Ronnie.

I think after Lenny and Ronnie the Club owe us a more experienced manager especially with the cheats coming up next season if the sfa get their way.

Moyes for me, help each other back to where we should be.

    Just my two pence worth.

Chris the Soup taker to me seems to be a pal of Kris Commons (who I love ).But the fact that he mostly cant be found a place in Ronnys team seems to irk him, So he has a go every time he can.

Whether CQN likes it or not with the new entity back there will be more interest next season and the holy willies who want to burn their season tickets will be caught up in the whole charade, for me I would watch Celtic playing anybody …… I will just keep reminding the Sevconians they might have ditched their debt but their shame will always be there

am gutted with big Sutton, loved the player……but like most heroes they disappoint in person

  10. Totally Agree Gerry, We only hurt the Hoops by leaving next season.

I must admit my heart sank when Derek Rae announced that Scott Allan was in the team but would be playing wide left. What’s the point of putting our most creative player in the team but playing him out of position?

  12. 50 shades of green…

As souptakers go, I reckon Sutton is way down the list, if even on it!

He speaks his mind and slated Ronny early on, then as as our performances improved he gave him the plaudits he deserved.

Now, we are were we are… Playing badly and scraping over the line with a bigger squad than most American football teams.

That is down to PL condoning our signing policy and if Ronny D didn’t have the balls to speak up…his time is up.

As an ex-Celtic player he is allowed to express his opinion, right or wrong.

Much to my disgust my 2 nephews who are Celtic daft but in their words they have lost interest, they grew up getting it flung in their face they want to destroy whatever entity is playing out of Govan……but if I was 20yrs younger I would probably be the same, it’s an age thing, by the way some of my older muckers are exactly the same……for me it’s Celtic and always will be

Ever since my wee da introduced me to the legend Charlie Tully

in the St Mungo halls up at the Glasgow green I’ve always been

a bit averse about seeing my heroes in the flesh so to speak and

after about 40 years drinking in the Gallowgate and meeting

and socialising with most of them i think its better to keep them

apart and up on a pedestal if you know what i mean.

  17. Yeah Gerry, You can see the age thing on here, Its the older posters saying walk away and don’t support the cheating, It only hurts Celtic and hopefully after Ronnie they will get in a decent manager to handle the media and the buns.

Push on to thump them and remind them they cheated and aren’t the same club after all. Who knows that might just be what the doctor (jo) ordered. ;)
