Some reasons why Celtic will drop a lot of points

960

I was surprised Ronny Deila thought immediately after the game that Dedryck Boyata’s red card was valid, from the angle behind the goal it looked a well-time tackle, but let’s deal with the manager’s complaint against the player, who put a challenge in when wrong side of the attacker.

We’ve see three Celtic central defenders in this position in recent weeks: Efe against Ross County, Erik against Inverness and Dedryck last night. Erik was outpaced by Jordan Roberts but instead of risking a challenge from behind his opponent, he stayed on his feet and forced Roberts to shoot under pressure. Efe clumsily barged into his opponent and Dedryck went to ground.

All three got their starting positions wrong, which could have cost a goal, but Ambrose and Boyata compounded the problem by attempting a recovery, also from a wrong position. Sviatchenko chose to put pressure on the player and leave matters up to his goalkeeper. Erik made the right decision, Efe and Dedryck made wrong decisions.

And before Erik relaxes in the glow of praise, it was his unnecessary barge into an opponent which conceded the foul which led to the corner kick Accies equalised through. Don’t give away stupid fouls and you don’t allow opponents to fire the ball into your box.

And yes, the goal we lost came from a corner kick (I’m assuming those who were animated earlier in the season about zonal marking somehow overlook the same lack of ball-winning skills from the same players now we’re marking man-for-man). I’ve never known a team to lose so many goals from corners. We have a collection of players who cannot follow the flight of a football when launched into their box from a corner.

I know there’s a belief that you cannot practice penalty kicks, as the pressure of hitting them during a match changes everything. This is nonsense. Our poor penalty conversion rate over the last five or six years has cost us trophies. Ironically, John Collins has the best penalty conversion rate of any player in Celtic history (who’s taken more than 5).  You would think he’d be able to sort this.

Poor technique is a consequence of poor preparation.

When Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring from the penalty spot it came as a great relief, as until then we were unable to create a genuine chance. A big part of the job at Celtic is breaking down packed defences away from home. There are largely two ways to achieve this:

1. Master the act of quick and precise passing

2. Have target men and wide players who are excellent at crossing the ball.

If we don’t have either play in our locker we’re going to drop a lot of points.

  1. Incidentally how many players will he try to make into a left sided winger/midfielder ?

Could we bring in an experienced manager and keep Ronny as his assistant

    ————————

No chance, Ronny would put himself through that.

More likely he’ll win the league and cup then walk, telling anyone that will listen not to touch the job.

Some posts were over the top about Ronny when the BBC introduced him outside Celtic Park on his appointment.

You could be right about panic aspect, but there is no Celtic Mourinho waiting to take us to a new level, and one coach is as good as another IMHO, whether he’s Derek McKinnes or the great Norwegian who merely ‘talks a good game.’

Some expert Celtic supporters can’t let go to the point that opinion consumes them, and as others have posted it really is just internet made up stuff and every mug with a keyboard, ultimately has an opinion.

This mug says, that over the piece Celtic are six points clear and not twenty six as some demand, but a different coach would only have been recruited from the same budget and market as Ronny.

Last night we passed a couple of points ( in my mind at least)

    1. We are surely past any notion that Ronnie will be here next season?

    2. We are too late to change manager this season.

Hail Hail fella, hope yer well.

I have the horrible feeling that, we’ll draw the huns in the SC at some stage and, Warburton(mibbery assisted) will put Ronny’s Celtic oot.

Should this happen….do you think that Ronny would still be our manager the next day ?

  5. Well I think we can put talk about Alan Stubbs possibly being our next manager to bed.

As much as I would like to see Brendan Rodgers in the celtic managers role … the only way that would happen is if the board offered him enough wages and budget

Incidentally further incentivise with still in European competition post Christmas, say another £250k, ( could be bigger if last 16 of Champions league )

Huge incentive for any manager to succeed ?

Hail Hail fella, hope yer well.

So, all 3 have to be sacked based on your assumptions ?

Ye see, Ronny has been given better backing than Neil got.

The board can’t be accused of not backing him.

The thing is, for Ronny to succeed to expectations with us, ie: show signs of improving the football set-up in terms of….

    Performance

    Achievement

    Development

    Discipline

    Recruitment

    Utility of resources

    Man-management

    Media mind-games…..

…He must have in his locker…

    …Managerial nous

    …Tactical nous

    …Player management nous

    …Player recruitment nous

    …Media spin-doctor Wideo / Shady / Slippery / Uppity-Tim

…Ability to make the players fear him

…Ability to make players fear no-one else

…Ability to make fans hang onto his every word

…Ability to be the most devious / dirty bassa that the dressing room will ever see

…how much of the above does Ronny have in his locker ?

Then again…the more of the above that he has in his locker, the less appealing he’ll be to PL / JP / The board as, they won’t get away with their piss-ripping-downsizing the quality of the product on the pitch which must be a pocket liner for all of those mentioned but, even though they have backed Ronny, they must be alarmed by the growing number of empty seats as, fans no longer want to be took for mugs – guid for them.

PS : And that salary is not even in the top managers bracket.

    —————–

Yep and the likes of Allardyce, Pardew, Garde are on £1/2mill a year (after a quick google check). I’d imagine even Alex Neil at Norwich will be on £1mill.

  23. See this “new” manager we need to replace the current “dud” just exactly what will be the criteria he or she will be judged on?

Will it be winning leagues? Doubles? Trebles? Unprecedented Quadruples that had already been done?

Will it be winning the Champions League, the Europa League or both simultaneously?

Will they have to single handedly stop Sevco’s return (sic) to the top flight, or eradicate world hunger?

I may just be a simple Celtic supporter but it seems to me that for some nothing Celtic ever do is good enough.

Only being six points clear is described as a disgrace, I can remember watching Celtic when making second was an achievement. I saw us hang on for grim death in the 95 cup final at the end. When the whistle blew did we whine and complain about playing the mythical “Celtic way”? Hell no we partied like we might never see a trophy again, which wasn’t so far fetched back then.

Lurking is even a chore these days.

  25. I would take Brendan Rodgers in a heartbeat—but I don’t think there is a chance of him going to Celtic.Mind you,he would sort the football out,and I don’t think he would miss and hit the wall with the referees.

When a Rangers man like Johnjames can sneer at Celtic for being supine spineless people then we are really in trouble.I rate his site better than PMG’s.He gives it with both barrels, and the fact he has not been sued proves his points are true.

For those people who continually castigate TM his team played better football. The man himself was hounded, disparaged, spat upon, shat upon and anything else you wish to add.

The Scottish MSM nearly had him in the madhouse, and these are the same people and refs sticking it to Celtic.

I have the greatest admiration for Auldheid and the rest of the resolution 12 folk but Jesus enough is enough. Ronnie giving the tossers ammunition is surely a sign he’s cracking.

There’s a parallel to be drawn from the War of Independence in Ireland.De Valera wanted to stop military action,as he reckoned winning the “moral” war would be enough to bring the British to the tables. Michael Collins refused, and stuck it to them even more.

    You know the historical outcome.

I wish Celtic would do the same.

  26. Mr pastry you are in utter denial. Unable to think rationally because you just want to pretend it’s all ok.

The manager has to put a product on the pitch that, fills the empty seats.

Ye see, I think that the manager would be able to make a guid Celtic team out of the players currently at the club with only ‘one’ player to be recruited in the summer – John McGinn.

Sadly, Ronny isny the guy to fill the seats….imho

A Celtic manager has to have an air of mystery about him ala….

    …Mr Stein

    …Mr Jansen

    …Mr O’Neill

…not a manager who, seems to kowtow to the SMSM’s narrative.

When has Ronny called out mibbery ?

Is he under puppet-instructions not to ?

Or, does he just not feel the pain the fans ?

I’ve said on here before that, I think that the Hearts management set-up is a guid yin.

Wither or not that the same style would work at Celtic would be dependent on, PL / JP etc taking their hauns oot the football jar.

If it came to pass….i think it would sustain the club for the foreseeable future and, rid the club of it’s rudderless-ness…imho.

  31. Had nipped oot

Liverpool spent £300m picking players through a committee set up, ( wonder which model Celtic follow :-)) and passing these players to Brendan to then set up and manage the team

It was only this season things went off track for him, has there been any improvement at Liverpool under Klopp ?

Were they not 7th when he left ? Now 9th, with game to play mind

  32. Ronny is out of his depth imo the football is dire. Watching the same mistakes for near 2 years now is soul destroying . The park is emptying every week and even the hard core are at breaking point. Ronny should not be the only one to go though more heads should roll.
