Some things are more important

I know we are in the middle of a storm with the prospect of the San Siro, not to mention St Johnstone ahead.  I also know the only thing you want to read or write about is how we are going to resolve our problems, but there is more to Celtic than football, specifically the Foundation.

The history poverty is clear, the poor suffer more from an economic crisis than anyone.  2020 has been a terrible year to be poor and many more people are now poor than a year ago.  Your Foundation stepped in early in the crisis and continues to work on our behalf.  There has been practically no fundraising this year: no badge day, no bucket collection or Ghirls for Good.

The Sleep Out, which takes place each winter, goes ahead on Friday night as Stay Up for the Champions.  You can participate from your home, details here.  If that is not possible, you can help in other ways here.

We are so much more than just a football club, the Foundation is evidence of that.

We’re launching Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles today.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

  2. Forster is the best goalkeeper ever to play in Scotland.

If Bain or Barkas played against Lazio they would’ve hammered us.

If Forster had played against Sparta I think we would have hammered them.

When we never signed him in summer I had the biggest feeling of dread about this season.

We then signed a young guy who will probably be a great goalkeeper in 3 or 4 years but is still miles short for this year.

It looks to me like Edouard plus 4 others had their agents ask Lawwell for a price to be sold (like KTs agent got last year).

PL knows the fans have put £30m+ in and says- no playerz are leaving this year because of 10iar.

    This totally back-fired.

The players start going thru the motions, wee knocks become injuries and as we can see they CGAF.

The only mad plan I can see DD having is to hang on to the new huns shirt tails til January 1st and then have Forster and a couple of mega signings playing on the 2nd January.

  3. Ivan Toney is not facing two banks of 5 players and getting kicked with impunity.

Not a fair comparison with any of our players.

    IMO.

  4. Celtic FC from May 2019 to Nov 2020 will become a case study in how to collapse from a position of extreme advantage.

This is not about a few results. This has been a slow burner.

    The solution must be swifter.

KT -signed a contract that PL put the 25m put in .No body asked to be sold 😉

  8. Ivan Toney wouldn’t have score as many for Celtic – we would have signed him, taught him how to be pish, then loaned him out.

When was the last time we signed a proven goalscorer?

  9. In all my years watching Celtic this is the only time I’ve seen I’ve seen as many players downing tools.

It’s no co-incidence that the only time they’ve seen a fan in 8 months is when they’re filling their car with petrol.

  14. We all laugh(ed) at Park for throwing money at his team to stop Celtic winning 10 in a row… If he was as rich as Dermot Desmond, I’ll bet he would give the manager £50m in January if he was in our position.

Time to rip up the project signing policy…. The fans are fekin sick of it

  17. To everone who complained about the lack of a response to the fans that turned up to protest after Ross County, and complained again about the statement from the CEO tonight- waht actually could they say or do to appease anyone?

I mean, short of sacking everyone on the coaching team and on the Board, which they were never going to do, what words CAN appease this situation?

    I know of none

    so their choices were

    1) Say nothing – result anger rises because their is no response

    2) Say something bland – result anger rises at being patronised

    3) Say something aggressive back to the fans- result – a bigger and angrier protest next time.

There was nothing the Board could do. Even when they get round to delivering what the majority want i.e. Neil “mutualled”, – anger will not be appeased because

It should have been done at the final whistle in Prague

or it should have been done after Hibs

or after the Sevco game in October

or following the Ferencvaros game in August

or in the shower after the last game of last season

Or The Board should have gone with him

or- No use sacking a manager if you don’t replace him with better and I don’t like whoever it is you have in mind.

The reason for our anger is primarily our league form and the fear that the 10 is being lost, or to be fair to some of our more emotionaly volatile fans, already lost. And that is on top of being knocked out of CL qualifying, the Europa Group running and the LC.

No words can change that and we are fooling ourselves in demanding that something is said to satisfy what cannot be satisfied by word alone.

Only improved performances and results on a football field can change our mood.

Even if they announced Pocchetino’s coming tomorrow (don’t worry!- he ain’t)- it would not have altered our position one bit.

Sure fans would welcome him, though there would be sure to be a couple amongst us who would find fault, but he would not have changed anything. He would still have to make Celtic work again. And he’d ahve to do it quickly. And he’d have to find Sevco losing their current consistency. And we’d have to be sure that he’s in total control ( a daft idea, in my mind, for someone who would feck off to a better league at the drop of a hat, not caring what they left behind them) or we’d still be agitatiing for sackings.

So- bottom line- the old BRT&H question- How do you win back control of your club once you’ve already made it a plc , controlled by hedge funds and millionaires? This is no longer the easy-beat Kelly & White families. This is the modern unacceptable and unaccountable face of a capitalist enterprise.

Sure you could boycott SBs, merchandise, Celtic TV and the Superstore. But every positive action has a negative consequence. Harm Celtic financially and you advantage your rivals so where is the benefit? Could you actually ever get this club back into fan ownership- genuine fan ownership- not the pretendy stuff of choosing between 2 ambitious millionaires to be Club President on your behalf, that you find at Barca. You’d be as well choosing between Trump and Hilary Clinton there.

These are hard questions. I have no solutions. I am not even sure if the outcome is worth the price to be paid for effecting it.

  22. Lot of talk on here this evening about goalkeepers…. biggest problem we have right now is not our own, but the fact we are not troubling others.

I watch Toney, as one of my best mates is from Brentford, and I was curious because we expressed interest in him. It is true that he does not always face 2 banks of 5 defenders, but consider this- he is playing against far better teams than Ross County or Hamilton, with much faster and better defenders. He is also playing with an upfront partner – novel idea, eh?😷
