Some things are more important

I know we are in the middle of a storm with the prospect of the San Siro, not to mention St Johnstone ahead.  I also know the only thing you want to read or write about is how we are going to resolve our problems, but there is more to Celtic than football, specifically the Foundation.

The history poverty is clear, the poor suffer more from an economic crisis than anyone.  2020 has been a terrible year to be poor and many more people are now poor than a year ago.  Your Foundation stepped in early in the crisis and continues to work on our behalf.  There has been practically no fundraising this year: no badge day, no bucket collection or Ghirls for Good.

The Sleep Out, which takes place each winter, goes ahead on Friday night as Stay Up for the Champions.  You can participate from your home, details here.  If that is not possible, you can help in other ways here.

We are so much more than just a football club, the Foundation is evidence of that.

We’re launching Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles today.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

I see Dave King is prepared to sell his shares in Sevco to supporters group Club1830 for 20p a pop.

If anyone from Club1830 is looking in, I have a 2005 Fiat Bravo 1.4l, seven careful owners, generally acceptable condition for its age, needs some work to pass its MOT though. I’m prepared to accept £15,000 for it, cash only.

I’d certainly like to see a DoF.

    Maybe Lubo Moravcik.

That could be a grand shout. 👍

  3. Not the most ennamoured of Messrs Desmond and Lawwell but when you see the chancers who have taken charge of quite a few other clubs, IMHO they’re far from the worst.

A chancer, is a chancer no matter how rich they are, imho.

Well until you interview applicants you havent a clue who would be available to the club.

We know from the horses mouth that applications were not even looked at, in what business is that acceptable?

  8. Yip, let’s forget the embarrassment in Europe, or our last game

Oh and our failure to have a shot on target in one of those 2 losses quoted in our last 10 league games

Frightening, the actions of this board, in trying to quell the noise around both the teams performance and their own performance

They ban Celtic new age media mediums , yet talk to the MSM, which has slaughtered and enjoy spouting a lie for us all to accept as truth

Absolutely Shocking, and probably pushing many away from Celtic

  10. Wednesday – so we’re grandson and dog sitting – first duty for me is taking the dog for a walk. Usually they leave his lead ( the dog’s not the grandson’s) – anyway the lead I have made me think ‘ you’ll never walk alone’ – Easy to sing more difficult to act.

  11. As they say in the stock market, past performances are no guarantee of future results.

You have to spot the trends.

    Where is the market heading?

Lenny’s ability to get a positive return from his basket of assets has ground to a halt. No matter what he might have achieved before.

  12. Or another way of looking at our last 10 league games

Bearing in mind our huge financial and playing squad advantage

We have won 60% of those 10 games

Just over 1 in every 2 games

There’s chosen stats and reality, in what you are watching

  13. Gene,

Not just ” You’ll never walk alone ” there are a number of historic Celtic anthems that seem to be past their sell by date now.

  14. I’ve not read back this morning so may be repeating the general consensus but if we meekly lose the 10, as seems very likely based upon the faith in the manager garbage from the board, without making some necessary changes Celtic Park could be a very quiet place next season.

I will not be lining the pockets of Mr Lawell and Desmond and for the first time since around 1980 I will be season ticket free. I’ll no longer be taken for a mug, a Heragthy’s season ticket will be a better investment.

The lack of any strategy to secure the ten and our place in European football is a disgrace, I fully blame the board. Obviously NFL should carry some of the blame for our recent fall into a shambles but IMO there are many further up the chain who deserve the abuse I for one will not be abusing the manager. Now, some of the permanently unavailable/injured/unfit non contributors they will get abuse, in terms of value for money our current squad is as bad as any we’ve ever had in my time. Notable in this list, Ntcham, Rogic, Duffy, Griffiths to name just a few.

Puppet strings have been put onto Halliday in “The Scum” saying that,

I don’t want to put that rags link onto Paul’s blog. HH

I used to regularly contribute to the Foundation’s fundraising activities. However I elected to stop when the Celtic Board decided it was appropriate to reward its Chief Executive with a remuneration package more than the Foundation’s annual revenues. I now contribute primarily to SCIAF and the Glasgow Mission. For supposedly Chairing a few Board meetings each year, Ian Bankier receives in excess of £20k more than the Foundation’s hard working highest earner.

Brendan Rodgers was brought in by the PLC, to make Celtic fans look the other way, as the huns came into the league in 2016, and it worked.

Rebellious trophy strippers had their troosers pulled doon by the scheming PLC board, who would’ve thunk it?

Celtic fans need to keep their season ticket money IN the hat, till DD, and PL’s share value collapses, then when it comes to the point were, DD, and PL, have to run the club from their own pockets, its at THAT POINT, that DD, and PL, will either cough up their own wealth, or walk!

  24. Who on here had honestly heard of Wim Jansen before he came? Someone on here said they’d never heard of Jo Venglos which was slightly disrespectful to a man who’d won the European Championships but that’s away from the point. I wonder how many Arsenal fans had heard of Arsene Wenger…..Hassenhuttl of Southampton is doing sterling work – I’d never heard of him.

My point is, the argument that some posters can’t pluck a managerial name out of the sky that ticks every box isn’t a reason to stick with a manager who has clearly passed the point of no return. This is the board’s job.

If anyone’s suggesting that there isn’t a better manager than Neil Lennon out there who would come to Celtic then I’ll have to respectfully disagree.

They can pull as many rabbits out of a hat as much as the like, which I dont think the ultra conservative with a small c board will do, however this yoyoing of club performance requires a good look at and proper decision made as to what Celtic is and what it aspires to do.

In my opinion it is a plc there to make money for investors, it has also considered hotels and leisure with the funding of these from profits generated from the football side of operations.

Right now the football side of the club is an utter shambles and this board are hiding from their responsibilities, from the manager and coaches not being up to the necessary standard to the sick list slackers within the club, recuitment is more of a miss than hit fortunes are being wasted, and below first team level we sign projects but these projects have no league to play in so why do this?

What is our academy producing, if its well educated well rounded men who go on to play for clubs other than Celtic it is a total waste of money.

How do we develop the coaches within the academy to be what they can be, have we any potential first team coaches or future managers or directors of footbal , if not why not?

It seems to me once you are at lennoxtown you have a job for life and that makes people lazy and less inclined to push themselves or be required to do so to continually improve.

All of the above is needed to get back to what we want to have a successful first team which improves year on year domestically and in a European context, right now as I hinted at at the start , we have a board lacking vision, wont initiate change that threatens them in any way, and, we are like an industry overstaffed by underperformers, the only thing we produce is a balance sheet look at the wage costs are they worth it, what is Celtic FC getting in return for these salaries?

  28. I understand that if you have a season ticket from last year , you can ask for refund for last 3 months of season

If all fans do that and boycott online shop , then change will happen
