Some things are more important

593

I know we are in the middle of a storm with the prospect of the San Siro, not to mention St Johnstone ahead.  I also know the only thing you want to read or write about is how we are going to resolve our problems, but there is more to Celtic than football, specifically the Foundation.

The history poverty is clear, the poor suffer more from an economic crisis than anyone.  2020 has been a terrible year to be poor and many more people are now poor than a year ago.  Your Foundation stepped in early in the crisis and continues to work on our behalf.  There has been practically no fundraising this year: no badge day, no bucket collection or Ghirls for Good.

The Sleep Out, which takes place each winter, goes ahead on Friday night as Stay Up for the Champions.  You can participate from your home, details here.  If that is not possible, you can help in other ways here.

We are so much more than just a football club, the Foundation is evidence of that.

We’re launching Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles today.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

  1. Adi,

I am simply asking how you know that, where does that information come from ?

A property portfolio of 500+ houses would be quite vast and valuable, he would need to have put everything he ever earned into it.

Lenny has every right to every penny he’s due…regardless of his current wealth too.

No comparison whatsoever with self annointed captains of industry and masters of the universe who invariably set their own rewards at that.

Perhaps DD is sacking PL but PL is contracted to end of the year

So we cannot recruit a new Manager until PL has gone

New CEO wants to recruit a new man

so we stick with NL until new CEO comes in

What kind of fan would post this on a Celtic fans’ site about Celtic fans throwing bananas at Mark Walters?

    #####

    Big Wavy,

What shame.I made a right few Bob selling Bananas outside the Jungle that day.

    Enterprise it was called,enterprise.’

Probably the sort who wouldn’t recognise Michael Kelly’s admonition to the fans to go back to their peripheral housing schemes.

    Most probably a hun.

“See we are just as bad as Rangers and Hearts fans ” ..isn’t much of a defence

If it wasn’t for 10IAR, I’d take that. This season’s too big for it to just die with a whimper though….trophies are actually starting to tumble now.

  7. Charity begins at home ,aye for some who are on big bucks ,and them in Charge of Celtic Foundation are no different,ie some monies go to charities the rest to Salaries fact

‘If Neil Lennon is the big Celtic fan that he is made out to be , he would walk.

He can’t be short of a few bob.’

    ###

He could very easily be short of a few bob. The number of ex pros who end up bankrupt is startling.

He won’t resign if it means he gives up what he’s due.

Only a moron would expect him to.

  10. Bang on about Neil Lennon,Seeing his team getting turned over easily by other teams,If he is a Supporter and feeling the pain and being unable to fix it,He should do the Honourable thing and resign,What happens onThursday night against A C Milan if we lose again,

  11. ERNIE LYNCH

So he couldn’t care less about the state of the club at the moment. All of his doing.

    It’s just about the money

  12. I’d rather NFL was paid up in full and some of the wage thieves on the playing staff walked away, sadly I know that won’t happen.

  13. spikeysauldman on

    not the bus

its not a defence at all

its a wee reminder to anyone who shouldnt be making the most of it/sensationalising it trying to use it as a stick to hit us with

that crap the other night is not for me, but it happens, can be explained (not excused), was sensationalised, was used by the board and happens with football clubs the world over

ERNIE LYNCH on 1ST DECEMBER 2020 3:21 PM

Ernie as you will remember I have long since wanted NL to be replaced

But I would not expect him to simply resign and lose financially

You could interpret his insistence on staying as one of “I have done nothing wrong”

Meaning he thinks PL has not supported him so NL will not make life easy for PL

I agree – why should he

If he has a contract PL should honour it

    67ECW

  15. If Neil Lennon really cared that much about Celtic he would have worked for nothing.

He wouldn’t have taken a wage.

    He could afford it.

He’s pure loaded so he is.

    Must be.

  16. Presumably Neil Lennon and Celtic plc have a contact.

I’d expect both to honour their side.

Pure speculation- is there any financial penalty for a manager who simply walks away without giving the required notice?

Club would seem ridiculously exposed if not

  17. why is that when a normal person wins a few million on the lottery they are set for life and never have to work again but when footballers who earn the same in a short few years, they need to work to feed their kids?

  18. UNCLE JIMMY @ 3:36 PM,

Yes, that is normally the case.

What would stop a manager, say in the case of BR, resigning, walking away and getting a “golden hello”, rather than the manager’s new Club paying comp to his old Club!!

    Hail Hail

‘why is that when a normal person wins a few million on the lottery they are set for life and never have to work again’

    —-

That’s debatable. There was that spend, spend, spend woman years ago who won the pools and ended up with nothing.

There was lotto lout hun, ditto.

And there was a young girl in Cumbria who did the same.

That’s three just of the top of my head. There’s probably far more.

    ——————-

Because the normal person appreciates it more and in most cases doesnt go daft.

the excesses of fottballers , their wags, their agents, advisors, pals and hingers on sees them often over stretched and badly advised.

for every beckham and neville with wise investments there seems to be half a dozen gary o’conners with sad tales.

when a top level house goes on sale around these parts it is often footballers, you see the interiors and think wtf. they cant help themselves.

  21. I would assume there is some kind of garden leave period built into contracts if a manager walks away. ManU did this with Moyes.

  22. This current crisis has been a long time coming and is one which ultimately DD has to take responsibility for.

His overpaid chairman as been allowed too much control of football matters including picking players and back room staff, irrespective of the current and past manager’s thoughts.

Out of all those involved from Chairman to first team background staff, the only one who has my sympathy is NFL – this guy as been a hero as player, manager and human being and is being left to carry the can for the entire shit show.

Everyone of them needs to go now . Sadly including Neil, irrespective of his desperate desire to clinch a quad treble.

I suspect the chairman’s intention is to leave Neil hanging out to dry for as long as possible, see what happens and just let his reputation and general wellbeing hit rock bottom, rather than step up and take some responsibility. DD has to take that responsibilty, that humanity, as his chairman won’t.

What as club have we become.

  23. Wonder what reaction ( from the players) we would see if Neil said he would resign when a suitable Manager was in place ? A pay-off prior could be put in place prior to announcement to save faces with usual shut-up clause. And if Neil is wanting to hang on till after cup final we might. might !!! get there without dropping any more points ?
