Some things are more important

I know we are in the middle of a storm with the prospect of the San Siro, not to mention St Johnstone ahead.  I also know the only thing you want to read or write about is how we are going to resolve our problems, but there is more to Celtic than football, specifically the Foundation.

The history poverty is clear, the poor suffer more from an economic crisis than anyone.  2020 has been a terrible year to be poor and many more people are now poor than a year ago.  Your Foundation stepped in early in the crisis and continues to work on our behalf.  There has been practically no fundraising this year: no badge day, no bucket collection or Ghirls for Good.

The Sleep Out, which takes place each winter, goes ahead on Friday night as Stay Up for the Champions.  You can participate from your home, details here.  If that is not possible, you can help in other ways here.

We are so much more than just a football club, the Foundation is evidence of that.

We’re launching Celtic: Fifty Flags Plus One, an anthology of how Celtic won each of their league titles today.  Starting with our first title in 1893, it details how Willie Maley brought consistent glory, then the sparse successes over four decades before Jock Stein arrived in 1965 and the more contemporary wins since.

It will rekindle memories you had forgotten and give insight into how the leagues were won.

I was halfway through a piece on the Celtic fans lack of control at the club – inspired by a tweet from my dad today – when he sent me an article on that.

Totally agree with you. He picked his moment beautifully for the contrast. It’s not even clear he’s actually going to do it, but the goal was gaping and he’s shot the ball into it.

Fair play to him, our directors incompetence is such that they made it easy.

  2. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

That statement from the CEO is as weak as dirty dishwater – as others have intimated – nothing more that “stick together, maybe it will be OK”.

In the context of no fans in the stadium, what does ‘stick together’ mean to the performances, and lack of team shape and organisation, that we see deteriorating before our eyes?

Fans have already ‘stuck together’ by funding player, management team and executive salaries – we have been ‘sticking together’ – in an completely unprecedented way – an above-and-beyond level of ‘sticking together’ has been delivered by the fans – we are officially, fully, wholly and in great numbers ‘stuck together’ – ‘stuck’ as a sticky-willow…Gorilla glued.

However, we can’t ‘stick together’ in any way that impacts performances. Speaking to fans about ‘sticking together’ is trite, patronising, condescending claptrap.

The problem is clearly not related to a glut of ‘un-sticking-together’ fans causing team shape and confidence to lose adherence.

When you sit as an armchair fan, and you can see obvious problems with team setup and shape at the outset of a game, and the manager sticks with that setup and shape, and the outcome is repeatedly dreadful, then no amount of ‘sticking together’ fans in TV-world are going to make a blind bit of difference to what happens, and what will continue to happen.

“Stick together” – jeezo – is that the best he can do !?!?!

An extremely disappointed, and not sticky, HH

  3. Mr Lawwell go forward together !!! Hope you invited your friends from the 5 way agreement !!!!!!

  4. Current dilemma looking back caused by a mix of

    – 2 very good full backs not replaced PC Lustig and KT

    – 2 very good wingers out/sold not replaced , no cover , Jamsie and Sinky

    – 2 very good GK not replaced Gran Muro and Craig C

    – Scott losing a yard

    – Covid slowing them transfer market down , so at least 3 petted lips

Overall impact is that we now lack solidity down the flanks , pace upfront , unsettled central pairing ( usual / traditional problem don’t trust the keeper ) we start to force the game from overlapping full backs to provide width , half decent teams wait and when the game stretches our midfield don’t cover leaving the back 2 looking stupid.

Has Neil helped or made things worse by chopping and changing ? I believe he had to chop and change to get a response …

I suspect that the answer in times of emergency is to go very defensive 442 or 451 but unfortunately almost all our midfield are tanner ba merchants who want too many touches and cut inside : and truth be told too many guys playing for themselves

Neil will be given time until after the cup final attempt to get a bounce / reaction from a win …. defensively we just need to keep the full backs at home and short term go to a basic WGS 442 along the lines of

    Barkas

    Welsh Jullien Duffy Laxalt

    Turnbull brown Ajer McGregor

    Ajeti Patrick

Physical team to roll their sleeves up , play solid 2 touch stuff

  5. Sorry Celtic, but PR platitudes don’t make up for the sense of betrayal felt by fans, Season Ticket holders and share holders. No manager has survived such a poor run of performances. Sad to say NFL shouldn’t either. The relationship is broken.

The fact that the AGM is behind closed doors saves the board being forced to confront this hard fact plus the truths of 5WA, RES 12, Nimmo-Smith, Supreme Court etc.

I’m “surprised” & “disappointed” when I get the wrong take away delivered, but it’s the best this board can do when faced with gross maladministration and malfeasance while they try desperately not the upset the football authorities both here and in Europe.

No backbone or balls at CP – Fergus will be turning in his bunnet

The problems started with the failure to keep Fraser Forster.

And this ain’t no Monday morning quarterback speaking. I said last season that hanging on to him was critical.

Dave King is selling all his shares.

What’s he thinking about when a generation of Sevco domination awaits with Celtic dead and buried?

Why sell now when years of Champions League riches are about to come pouring in?

    He may need the money.

On the the other hand he may be cutting his loses and has realised this is as good as it gets for Sevco.?

    Follow the money.

  8. And to follow up on Lawwell, Broonie interview is released by the club…

Someone is taking the absolute p**h here.

P67, it is about time you took up your rightful position as editor in chief of the daily record.

You become ever more shameless with each passing article.

Thumbs up to the Celtic foundation.

If we couldn’t attract Fraser then minimum Craig should have been offered the jersey ….

On the wider recruitment point we need a few more sturdy types on decent cash rather than a full team of tanner ba men where the centre forward gets you out of bother …. so going forward less is best in terms of squad size and promote / try younger lhads when appropriate….

Easy this mgt game … HH

  18. What a cowardly mob that sit on the board inside Celtic Park they banned the blog The Cynic from all media conferences .what for ,all i know is that they picked on one individual ,why dont you pick on the written press for all the negativity they have printed over the years , but they are all two faced fucking bastards, the media since Sunday have supported the club over the Neil Lennon fiasco, so thats fine with lawell and co , Anywa Lawell your time after your statement about supporting neil lennon. who without doubt his team will get turned over with ACMilan on thursday and possibly Sunday to by ST Johnstone, You aint seen nothing yet.

  19. Is anybody really surprised at the content of the Celtic statement. ?

I have thought for a while now NFL will leave after the game against Hearts.

It is less than 3 weeks away. Hopefully we win that cup and Neil bows out a winner.

Surely we can put the pitchforks and hoodies back in the cupboard until then.

In the meantime take your anger out on the ” players ” who are disgracing the jerseys.

    HH to all.

  20. I fear that ‘sticking together’ will soon become ‘sticking it to them, together’. 😊

My own dream is still that Neil Lennon will lead us, somehow, to both the Quadruple Treble AND the 10! However, I’m definitely in the ‘Adversity’ part of the dream where I’m afraid I may never wake up… 😕

    WAKE UP CELTIC!!! 🤬🍀
