‘SOMETHING SPECIAL,’ POSTECOGLOU’S EURO HOPE

ANGE POSTECOGLOU believes tomorrow night’s Europa League Group G encounter with Bayer Leverkusen will be “something special”.

And the Celtic manager reckons his players and the Hoops fans will be “super excited” about what will hopefully become another memorable night under the lights in the east end of Glasgow.

Postecoglou knows the importance of getting on the board after watching his team let slip a two-goal advantage to lose 3-2 to Real Betis in Seville in the opening match in the section a couple of weeks ago.

The Bundesliga outfit, currently sitting second in the league three points adrift of Bayern Munich, conceded early at home to Ferencvaros in their tie, but roared back to win 2-1.

Postecoglou, speaking to Celtic TV, said: “I’m sure it will be a fantastic occasion, which I’m sure the fans and the whole squad are super excited about.

“We want to play these games and really test ourselves. They’re a quality opponent and we’ll go out there with the same intention as we did against Betis away – go at them, try to be aggressive and attacking and, with the crowd behind us, hopefully we can create something special.

“They’ve been a strong Bundesliga outfit for a number of years now and great pedigree, as well.

“So, if you start looking for strengths, you’ll find them everywhere and that’s why we’re in this competition – to play against the very best.

“But the important thing for us is that, irrespective of their strengths, we bring what we can to the game and put them under pressure.”

Postecoglou will take the Hoops into his fourth European tie after games against FC Midtjylland, FK Jablonec and AZ Alkmaar and the Greek-Australian boss added: “I’ve had a little bit of experience now and I’ve got a feeling Thursday night will be special.

“And I think for us, it’s important that we put on a performance that gets our fans excited and gives them hope moving forward, so we understand that responsibility.

“But together, fans and the team, we can make another special night.”
