The biggest story in the Deloitte money league table, out this morning, is that of Milan and Inter, 14th and 19th place respectively. Inter are stuck between Everton (pining for a new stadium to remove the biggest inhibitor on revenue) and West Ham (soon moving to a new stadium).
Juventus are 10th and Roma 16th but that’s it for Italian clubs, who were able to attract the top talent from Law to Ronaldo and all generations in between. The fabled ‘lure of the lira’ wasn’t replaced by the lure of Italian stocked euros. Football in Italy is still a huge business, but the TV market is not as generous as the deal in the confederated league in England and Wales.
It’s not so long since Celtic regularly featured in Deloitte’s report but our TV revenues have stagnated while those elsewhere have grown considerably. We’ve recognised our place in the food chain, but next to slip off the list when the new English TV deal kicks in will be the big Milanese clubs. Good.
Celtic were first to suffer the consequences of the TV and football markets cartels. There’s little we can do about it alone, we need big clubs in big countries to also be unhappy at being pushed out of the tent.
We’ll soon read that Crystal Palace earn more money than Inter Milan. Experience suggests that football clubs, once disenfranchised in this manner, become advocates for change. Even those near the top, like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s Bayern Munich, are talking about a European league, as their domestic TV deal is holding them back.

Na2 has been on a crusade for a while, since the indy ref I reckon, and he has been ott on many occasions, imo, I had a few set 2s with him at the time, we slagged each other to beat the band, but then we didn’t.
But he is what he is and I just let him get on with it.
Just tonight we have had Turkey telling us that he will attack posters he doesn’t agree with, no reasoned argument against what is posted, just attack the poster, that is hunnish, straight from the horses mouth, he will attack the posters for his beliefs.
TD is another who does exactly the same, no reasoned debate, when asked anything he canny handle, he throws the toys out of the pram and disny play, his words, this is what the biggest problem is on the blog, good posters leaving cos of the pish.
Yer man gets a yellow card and tells the blog he has moved on, aye right, moved on so much he gets his account pulled, then gets a reprieve and carry’s on regardless cos he knows that he can, again hunnish.
The debate has gone, as Canman said to me earlier, it’s no like they are gonna say anything that will make you go, wow, they are here to destroy what was once good.

Did a wee job for someone today, fixed their broken sewer pipe, not a big deal as I have all the bits and bobs in my shed as I have worked in the water industry for over 20yrs.
Anyway, I was given a bottle of Grouse as payment. Then tonight I was at a meeting in St Roch’s for a charity I’m involved in, just a bunch of Celtic fans doing our bit, not much really but in some way hopefully making a small difference to some peoples lives. We had a break half way through the meeting for a cuppa and someone handed me a wee parcel. I was unable to go on the Christmas night out and had missed out on my secret Santa from the group. You’ll never believe it was a Famous Grouse Beanie hat, what are the chances lol.
The reason I shared this story is that if it wasn’t for this blog I would never have been at St Roch’s tonight with all those great Celtic people, this place is special, believe me. I was in a bad place for a long time. I came across this site by pure accident, I lurked for a couple of years and then built up the courage to post. I’m so glad I did, I’ve met so many great people through this blog. I don’t agree with everyone’s points of view as Cowiebhoy and PFAyr amonst others will testify, but you know what we may not agree but we respect each other. I ran into PFAyr a couple of months ago in the Blane Valley and at first it was a bit uncomfortable as we both knew we had had a bit of a spat on here. We did end up talking although we avoided any controversial subjects that we had disagreed with on here. That’s what this place is all about, get your opinion out there, fight your corner but do it in a respectful manner and don’t take it personally when others have a different perspective on any given subject.
Remember, at the end of the day we all want the same thing, Celtic to be successful, how that comes about is the conundrum for us as fans. Keep the faith guys and gals and remember they died and how good is that?
