The biggest story in the Deloitte money league table, out this morning, is that of Milan and Inter, 14th and 19th place respectively. Inter are stuck between Everton (pining for a new stadium to remove the biggest inhibitor on revenue) and West Ham (soon moving to a new stadium).
Juventus are 10th and Roma 16th but that’s it for Italian clubs, who were able to attract the top talent from Law to Ronaldo and all generations in between. The fabled ‘lure of the lira’ wasn’t replaced by the lure of Italian stocked euros. Football in Italy is still a huge business, but the TV market is not as generous as the deal in the confederated league in England and Wales.
It’s not so long since Celtic regularly featured in Deloitte’s report but our TV revenues have stagnated while those elsewhere have grown considerably. We’ve recognised our place in the food chain, but next to slip off the list when the new English TV deal kicks in will be the big Milanese clubs. Good.
Celtic were first to suffer the consequences of the TV and football markets cartels. There’s little we can do about it alone, we need big clubs in big countries to also be unhappy at being pushed out of the tent.
We’ll soon read that Crystal Palace earn more money than Inter Milan. Experience suggests that football clubs, once disenfranchised in this manner, become advocates for change. Even those near the top, like Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s Bayern Munich, are talking about a European league, as their domestic TV deal is holding them back.

The reasoned debate has gone, it’s all attack the poster now, and it only comes from one side.
I understand fully what Paul is trying to do, but ffs, the blog is diminishing rapidly due to the constant attacks on posters who are just giving their honest opinion, be they misguided or not, it’s their opinion, and they don’t deserve to be attacked for it no matter what.

Now Mike in YYZ is offski – i often picture what I think posters may be like and have Mike as a sort of Pythonesque Lumbarjack sort – but in the real world part of my mind have him more like his initials-acronym – an MIT lad.
South of Tunis – perhaps retired and in the strange part of my mind perhaps now a sole-supplier of severed horses heads to La Cosa Nostra.
These are of course in jest as both of you are some of the many posters that I always read and always enjoy – never anything controvertial – never poltical (unless in jest) …..

Sadly there are those that bring things into the room that really don’t seem to work – and by that I mean that what they say causes irritation above others thresholds. Some may have low tolerance but I think it’s sad when these are exploited.
Politics to me seems to be what is killing (though I think CQN is a strong entity) the blog – how should I feel in the ‘all inclusive’ club when I vote for the only Conservative MP in Scotland and recently met the last one that I voted for that won (1983)? How should I react when all and sundry ‘dance on the grave’ of Margaret Thatcher – Christians? I wondered…perhaps a different branch to the one I was brought up in.
But guess what – I didn’t react because I felt it was nothing whatsoever to do with Celtic – but it stopped me posting except rare blips.
Also I read some opine on what a ‘real’ Celtic fan is.
Well – I don’t go to games now – but I had a season ticket for 20 odd years and managed 50 or so games one season including 9-0 (?) away Arbroath – midweek.
Does that make me a good or a bad ‘un?
My definition for what its worth of a Celtic fan is anyone whose pulse quickens when they watch them live or on telly or on teletext. Simple.
Anyway reason for this heap of hot air is that too many people who enhance my day are leaving so I am debating whether to engage whenever I can in the hope that I can enhance somone elses day and give something back to CQN – something that has given great laughs great (mainly anonymous) people and great chat about the team I will always have a quickening pulse for.

Really enjoyed the last 2 matches got to say the away support are tremendous the home support are not apart from the green brigade. I think all the fans who go to the away games should sit in the Celtic end and with the green brigade at the other end we might get some more atmosphere. Any word on Johansen bid from Villa? And any word on the defensive midfield player we were after get him in and I would be fairly happy with the squad though it is needing trimmed down.

Must say K, that I am a little surprised that you use that phrase concerning this particular matter.
I do believe that I was the person being abused in the first instance and that Turkeybhoy responded to that abuse. (Possibly not in the manner I would have chosen).
Now I know that I cannot possibly hope to aspire to the philosophical insight and intellect of our resident, latter day Aristotle, Neganon.
However I would hope that you would consider my premise that one’s understanding and / or perception of any particular issue or ethos may indeed lead to a flawed judgement if one considers the issue utilising erroneous preconceptions!
Who is to judge who is correct or has the “good sense” to recognise that that is the truth?
I’ll leave the blog to decide.
I do however ask that when considering the point of issue, that you also consider on which side of the debate, one may find the person who regularly esposes one sided, myopic rhetoric, generally of a negative nature betraying a certain lack of objectivity.
Further may I ask you to consider who it was that “played the man” with their withering comment on how they “despair at the lack of nous” on display from fellow CQN posters.
And some wonder why we are losing esteemed posters by the day.

If you have a problem with this you will be vilified and exposed to vitriol on a scale you have not ever experienced, this is to show everyone we are not to be taken lightly, we are an international organisation who have affiliations with people you’d never have suspected and we will deny all links with until we are comfortable we have a majority or at least a significant minority enough to intimidate the majority into submission.

Didn’t see Hamilton game live – scrolling text and CQN was good entertainment though and I saw goals from a link.
I am a base builder of the O’Neill sort – shut the back door and keep it closed. Would like to see a central defensive pairing that just seem to get to everything so am hoping the new lad is as scary as Bobo (to strikers – not to me).
Consistency is the key – but to me so is having a back up striker that scores goals – dont think we’ve got one of them. Got a whole pile of midfielders though!!
Europe is also the key – pays the bills and gets the juices flowing. Losing both CH’s cost us I think but hoping RD has got it right this time and has the team he wants by the end of the season as his job probably relies in him getting it.
