SORE, BROKEN, NERVY AND AWKWARD, ADMITS McGREGOR

CALLUM McGREGOR surveyed the wreckage of another embarrassing defeat and admitted Celtic feel a “bit broken” following their 3-1 Europa League collapse against Ferencvaros at Parkhead last night,

The loss came fast on the heels of the dire display in the 3-0 Premier Sports League Cup quarter-final flop at Ibrox on Sunday.

McGregor was visibly upset as he attempted to analyse the latest x-certificate performance from the misfiring champions and the Hoops captain said: “It was tough. They scored at good times and it’s a sore one.

“We have to stick together now. You can see that it’s a little bit broken in how we want to play, it’s a bit nervy and awkward at times.

“But we have to fight our way through this.

OH NO…Viljami Sinisalo is helpless as Liam Scales deflects a low cross from the right past him for Ferencvaros’ opening goal.

“We need to be together – everyone. We need the players, the supporters and the staff.

“The only way through it is hard work. If you keep working, you might get a bit of luck.

“We need a moment to drop for and hopefully things will turn. This is a tough period and that’s two bad results, but we have to stick together.”

McGregor, speaking to TNT Sports, continued: “You can see how quickly it starts to come down on top of you.

“We need the experienced ones now to stick together and pull everyone.

“This is a relatively new group and we have to learn and get to the level as quickly as possible.

“You don’t get much leeway, but we have to stay together and keep trying to do the basics.”

Looking ahead to the Premiership visit of Derek McInnes’ Ibrox side on Sunday, the 33-year-old Hoops onfield leader added: “The ultimate test at the weekend is that we have to win the game.

X-CERTIFICATE VIEWING…Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Kieran Tierney all get a close-up look as Kristoffer Zachariassen is allowed to knock No.2 past Viljami Sinisalo from close range.

“It’s simple now. We have had two bad results and we have to come here and win.

“The only way you do that is by doing the basics and doing what we know brings us success.

“And we need a little bit of luck, a little moment, to drop for us and we will be out the other side.”

Celtic go into the all-Glasgow encounter with a 60,000 full house at Parkhead backing them and in the knowledge they can pile the pressure on the Govan club early in the league campaign.

A win for Martin O’Neill’s men will push them eight points clear of their city neighbours after only seven Premiership games.

There is much work to be done to restore confidence between now and Sunday’s midday kick-off.
