Soro, the difference from Kouassi

239

Ismaila Soro joined Celtic yesterday after two years in Israel with Bnei Yehuda.  He is a year younger than fellow Ivorian, and fellow central midfielder, Eboue Kouassi, who this month left Celtic on loan to Genk, having failed to make any noticeable impression.  The biggest difference I can discern between the two is who recruited them.

Kouassi was brought in by Brendan Rodgers, just before the arrival of chief scout Lee Congerton, but while Lee was in dialogue with Brendan and the club.  Soro is here courtesy of Neil Lennon and his chief scout, Nick Hammond.  There’s your difference – and why we should expect a better outcome this time.

  1. Glad to see that the game may be off tomorrow due to the weather, you don’t want to be playing a highland team in this kind of weather.

  2. I do agree that Congerton is a duffer.

I pointed out his record at Sunderland and Hamburg when we recruited him.

Was Efe Ambrose a defensive midfielder when we signed him from an Israeli club ? From memory Efe had one of the most impressive debuts that I had ever seen watching Celtic, although it was against Raith Rovers in the Cup.

This is the bit where somebody posts “ I like the look of Kouassi he was never given a proper run in the team and was treated shabbily by the club “

Can’t get away from the digs are Brendan.

Kouassi was quite unlucky. Signed for Celtic at 19 in the middle of the invincible season. Had both malaria and suffered a serious knee injury during his time at the club and was competing for a position in the strongest area of the park.

Kouassi and SB were similar players who didin’t work together. There was only going to be one winner in those circumstances. SB is now on the wane and we have to think about succession planning. Soro hopefully fits the bill.

  6. TinyTim – the Greg Taylor signing is particularly perplexing. Neil and the coaching staff would have seen him up close several times. They made his signing a well-publicised priority and pursued him for most of the summer.

Yet he can’t get a game ahead of Hayes?

How can people come on and say, as they did yesterday, that they have heard the coaching staff don’t rate Taylor or Boli? If that is the case, what responsibility is Neil taking for wasting 2-3 million on the lad?

Not like it was a You Tube signing or a recommendation from our favourite scout in Israel.

Who signed Du Wei? Why will no one admit to that?

I think that was a Peter Lawwell signing…

Stick to the day job Peter…

and why don’t you talk to us?

Paul, bring yer man on to the blog for a wee Q&A session…

If I were a full time employee provided with the scouting resources that Congerton etc have at their disposal I would struggle to do worse than many of our recent scouts.

I certainly would not have wasted the millions that we have on crocks like Myokolo,Borigter, and Comper.

If you check back I also posted my concerns about the Signing of Simunovic ,due to him being injured around the time we signed him.

For what we pay these guys the level of success is shady.

  11. Three days still to go £5.5M spent the only real money spent in Scotland, once again.

Celtic can only buy from transfer markets where there are players willing to sign and come to play in Scotland,

( see Ismaila Soro ) this includes the Israeli League, Slovakian Leagues and Scottish leagues .

As a general rule despite spending heavily these transfers preclude big name established players in the better leagues who tend in the main to be outwith our wage structure.

Once you grasp this, you’ll be able to see past irrational self entitled, spoilt supporters posts who all know how to scout and run a better Celtic than we have at the moment.

  13. No issues with the weather in Perth, unless dark forces come in to play (I wouldn’t rule it out),no snow forecast, a bit of rain.

  14. My friends in Celtic,

Reasons to be optimistic: We have strengthened our squad and hopefully our team.

We already have reputational players who barely feature. Taylor, Bayo Shved. Could they ” explode” onto the scene.

A last gasp big loan deal ? We have the ability to finance it.?????

Our challengers can only dream of such conundrums.

So it’s not about the individual your signing its about who signed them?

Well now that I know that I’m over the moon dancing about my living room, Patryk Klimala is going to be a better player than Odsonne Edouard 🎉🎉🎉

  16. Inter have signed Erikson from spurs £17m with only 6 months left on his contact. Wonder what his wages are.

  17. Trying to beat OldTim to a podium is like trying to race him to the bar. You need the speed of a young Bobby Lennox to buy him a drink before he gets one for you.

  18. Looking at the forecast for Perth for today and tomorrow, I can’t see why the game would be off.

That said, my lad sent me a snowy picture from Dunblane first thing this morning.

  19. Where is this stuff about tomorrow`s game likely to be postponed coming from?

    Seems like nonsense to me.
