Soro, the difference from Kouassi

239

Ismaila Soro joined Celtic yesterday after two years in Israel with Bnei Yehuda.  He is a year younger than fellow Ivorian, and fellow central midfielder, Eboue Kouassi, who this month left Celtic on loan to Genk, having failed to make any noticeable impression.  The biggest difference I can discern between the two is who recruited them.

Kouassi was brought in by Brendan Rodgers, just before the arrival of chief scout Lee Congerton, but while Lee was in dialogue with Brendan and the club.  Soro is here courtesy of Neil Lennon and his chief scout, Nick Hammond.  There’s your difference – and why we should expect a better outcome this time.

  1. Just a reminder that Glasgow Celtic have won 15 of their last 16 domestic games, won the league cup and qualified top of their Europa League group with two games to spare.

Mad to see so much negativity still.

Tomorrow essential that we consolidate our position at the top of the league.

Let our superiority to the hun hordes sink in .

    A tricky fixture .

  3. @CelticFC “Neil Lennon last night revealed that Celtic are attempting to bring in experienced players in the January transfer window to bolster their attempt to win a record-equalling ninth consecutive Scottish title this season.” – The Scotsman, Thursday 9th January 2020.

  4. So we wont be signing any ready made first team players then. Which is what NL said he wanted. Who exactly are Soro and Patryk going to displace., Broony or Eddy . I dont think so .

We badly need a winger and centre half.

  5. @CelticFC “NL: “Looking at the team, we have 19-year-olds, a couple of 20-year-olds, 21-year-olds. Allied to that, we have the Brownys (🤮) and McGregors of this world. Going forward for the second half we would like a bit of experience in there to augment what we already have.””

@CelticFC Translation: “Rangers lost at the weekend so we’ll just put the cheque book away and hope it works out fine.”

  6. We’re the only team in Scotland to have significantly strengthened our squad.

Is this not what we all wanted ?

Our patron Paul needs a new name for his baby .

    Howsabout ……….Les Miserables .

  8. Harsh on those who thought a flexing of the bank balance wasn’t the worst idea in the world…

I’m still more scarred by the ‘will we play them if we buy them’ conundrum currently.

  9. Go tell the Spartim on

Apparently its a crime to want Celtic to be better.

This weeks scapegoat is the Rat too, who knew!!!!!

Every signing is a gamble, regardless of experience, talent etc, and everyone of them needs time to bed in (they’re all individuals).

Tend to agree regarding Jeremie Frimpong’s ‘position’ makes you wonder why Manchester didn’t develop him as an out and out winger, given he was there since he was nine?

Maybe they did and dismissed it.

Or maybe , like us , they already have ‘millyins of wingers’.

Could be trying to sweat Hibs out for Boyle with that statement….

I’d rather take Susan big fella….

  12. Bada Bing

Seriously? Hibs don’t want to lose Boyle, think they’ll more likely be relieved.

  13. Rodgers took the likes of Scott Brown, Rogic, Armstrong, Boyata, McGregor, Tierney and others to a completely different level. He attracted players like Sinclair, Moussa and Eddy, thoroughbreds with world class potential. Brendan Rodgers made Celtic plc a fortune on the park and in the stands, even leaving a £9m pay day from Leicester for himself and his backroom team. There is zero chance the treble treble happens without Brendan Rodgers. Professionalism and mentality at the Club taken to a different level. We are still riding his wave even now. Few in Celtic’s history have had a bigger impact and left a greater legacy.

On the mountains of cash available after the transfer window closes, if I was in charge then a notice would be displayed for the 1st team squad players: From Feb20 for each of the fifteen league games remaining all personal productive incentive bonuses are trebled; goals scored, assists provided, clean sheets, league wins.

Aye but he also upped sticks, stripped us of the backroom team and effed off at a criticial time of the season.

His legacy will remain chequered in my opinion, not withstanding the positive he brought.

With respect i don’t see how we have ‘significantly’ strengthened by signing 2 players we haven’t seen. Kilmala couldn’t get on against Ross County even when holding a 3 goal lead. I’m very underwhelmed by this window so far.

Cant condone that and have to credit Lenny for holding it together when he left. Had it went the other way Rodgers legacy would look very different. We can all judge his actions in our own way. I believe there is more to the story which may or may not be revealed in the fullness of time. Having said that, as good as Brendan Rodgers was, nothing he says he can be taken as true.

  18. DAVID17 on 28TH JANUARY 2020 5:21 PM

He walked out overnight and took his coaches with him, we had 11 league games still to go and three cup games to win. If Lenny hadn’t stepped in I doubt we’d have done the treble. His actions seriously endangered us winning the league which can’t be acceptable surely?

No one is denying that he did a fantastic job of developing players and rejuvenating some of our more experienced players but no one’s perfect. Anyone who watched Jack Hendry regularly in Scotland and thought he could play for Celtic shouldn’t be anywhere near the cheque book

  23. Neil Lennon promised 2-4 players in in the transfer window.

He signed two players and brought back two loanees.

That’s make four in my season book.

Well it would do if I had one.
