Space indicates why Moussa scores so many against Newco

444

I read Kenny Shiels’ comments that Newco’s Barrie McKay was better than James Forrest and Patrick Roberts, making me curious about McKay’s contract. The midfielder’s deal expires in 18 months, but when announcing his contract signing, Newco were unusually frank about their newco status:

“The winger has played a total of 78 times for Rangers, after making his first start in July 2012 against Brechin City at the age of 17.”

Before going onto explain in the same article that “The pacey winger made his Rangers debut against St Johnstone in the Light Blues’ last game of the 2011/12 season.”

If you count, that’s two debuts.  For two Rangers.

McKay was clearly Newco’s best player against Celtic, causing problems from the first minute until their challenge ran out of steam. Tying him into a long-term contract will be a priority (or selling him will be).

Yesterday I noted how Kiernan yelled abuse towards Tavernier at Scott Sinclair’s goal at Ibrox, but as this still shows, the entire Newco defence have questions to answer.
2017-01-03-1

There are five defender goal-side of Stuart Armstrong (not counting one on the wing). As the world was about to find out, Sinclair was unattended, but look at the space Moussa Dembele is in! The two central defenders, who will soon claim to be covering him, are five yards away from him. The defensive line isn’t so much a line as a horseshoe.

This is what Moussa scores so many goals against that lot, he doesn’t get this kind of space against any other opponent.

Smashing post, your Dad was a special man and I’m glad you realise that and are able to put it across so eloquently.

With the board I couldn’t agree more, I posted as much a couple of days ago, well ok not in as much detail as you did. 8:)))

The board may not use the phrase Old Firm but actions speak louder than words, they are part of the old firm.

Post of the year (and last year) buddy. One thing though. It doesn’t sound to me that your dad is the type of man to be spinning in his grave and that he will definitely be resting at peace in the full frank knowledge that he saw some of the best players and the best team to grace European football even though he did not match that with numerical victories.

Thanks for sharing that and I like you hold the same fears and distrust of our PLC that if they do not act on the cheating will forever be a slight on every Celtic fan to have supported our club from its birth and for future generations. This PLC will be written into the fabric and history of our club. I for one home their time is not marked by their own asterisk of inaction but sadly the likely hood is it will be.

I think I may have made the comparison myself on Saturday as I compared Brendan’s first season with the two other outstanding post-Jock Stein seasons of management – MON’s debut season and Big Billy in the centenary year though I don’t think KevJ noticed !

Comparisons can only really made at the end of the entire period in charge but as an opening salvo Brendan’s is pretty good.

There has never been a proper “narrative” about this among the support.

It is now known that it was the Scottish banking system that wanted to flatten us. What the Kelly´s and the White’s faced was formidable. No billionaire was interested then. Celts for Change and Fergus foolishly invested because if you knew the true background no sensible investor would invest. Therefore Fergus`s was an emotional attachment. Once upon the inside and after 5 years he must have known that a billionaire had to get interested. Dermot Desmond stepped up to the plate and continued Fergus´s work admirably. Unfortunately I do not believe that either Fergus or Dermot are that aware of what they actually bought. A poisoned chalice any way you look at it from their perspective especially when you consider that they also have to increase profits as that is their raison d’être and they are/were remote. An admirable necessity possibly but again unfortunately they have a very low opinion of us and our objectives. Peter Lawwell is their trump card. A man I admire and believe to be a dyed in the wool Tim but he´s an employee and shareholder and a very good accountant. If Celtic chose to stay quiet rather than seizing the moment we have all dreamed about from birth, a cleanly administrated league on and off the park .. not the death of Rangers (too late), then they have betrayed us all. I understand the need to keep the league as interesting as possible until their wet dream invite to a bigger league happens but cleaning up the game and calling out the proven cheating cannot be subverted. It is part of the process of rescuing Scottish football as far as I am concerned. It has been the main reason for our poor European record and should have been more domestically. The Celtic fans are faithful through and through but for what ?

The game gets cleaned up or it dies as far as I am concerned. If the SFA and SFPL are proven to be turning a blind eye to a money laundering scam going on for their/our massive financial benefit and our continued subjugation then the next severe price hike might see them in the car park., butit will be too late by then … same old ..same old.

  19. Goooood evening CQN

Bet you all enjoyed bringing in the bells this New Year :-)

Let’s all now enjoy our Lions 50th Anniversary year now – so all the best to you all

Catching up on past 3 days, I see a few suggesting we may need to let GMS, Christie and Henderson go ?

Not 20 year old Henderson, or a 21 year old Christie for me

Can see logic in 26 year old GMS though, as at that age should be a first team regular, mind you only got back from his injury in Nov, and if Roberts not staying would call snider keeping ?

In my view players we should be looking at moving on

Bailley (31 yr old) – ( although reading rumours De Vries wanting away ?)

    Ambrose (28)

    Allan (25)

    Boyata (26)

Cftci (24 soon to be 25)

Commons (33) – already out on loan, extend this ?

And with the rumoured signing of Eboue, would consider

    Bitton (25)

McGregor (23) – (from what I’ve seen I believe Ryan Christie is a better player)

Also need to see who else Brendan brings in, to get us better prepared for 2017 Champions League challenge :-)

With the lead we have in the league we can afford to be testing out some of our promising youth team, so keep Ajer and give him some games at CH ?

    Hail Hail

Great post! Think your Dad may have been of a similar generation to mine. Having said that I think you may have overlooked the role of the Celtic Board in the 1920s and 1930s. I mentioned on here previously, that following winning the league title in the early 1920s, (1921-22 I think) the Board celebrated by disbanding the reserve team, and leaving the team with only fourteen players. Think we only one more league title that decade. The 1930s, saw the Celtic Board try to sell the finest forward in Great Britain to Arsenal, without so much as a buy or leave to that player, the great Jimmy McGrory. And this during a decade when Celtic set the record for a club game in Europe that still stands today, against Aberdeen in the late 1930s. True the odds were stacked against, us but do not for one minute believe today,s self-serving Board are the first at Celtic Park to be so, there are plenty who preceded them.

Cowiebhoy …. how are you, pal? Hope you had a nice holiday. Hard to argue with much of what you wrote. I had thought Ciftci would suit this style, but, like NB, I think I have to admit that I called that one wrong. Like you, I think young Christie has real potential …I would love to see him get a run in the team …. but, it is hard to argue with what BR is doing at the moment.

    Comparison was being made

A difficult one to make …two very different sets of circumstances

MON spent a lot of money …..however so did RFC and other clubs were spending on transfers too

BR …brought in three top players … Two for free or minimal fee …however their respective deals will have been expensive

Sinclair cost £4m ……a sum that other clubs couldnt dream off

    BR has improved many players

MON made players out of Petta , Petrov and brought in cheap players like Agathe

BR has financial muscle way in excess of any rival ….MON took on an RFC team that cost a fortune to assemble and spent a fortune during his first season

For that reason I’m with you re MON.

However , as I commented earlier ..a great discussion to be having

    HH

  23. Hopefully if we do sign this midfielder we have a few on the way out.. Allan , Bitton ‘ GMS possible players to move on from that area.

Interesting this target is only 19 .. I would be surprised if he was brought in to break straight into the team .. brendan did mention he wants to prepare early for next seasons CL so that may mean we could see at least 1 more new player in January .

There is a thread on Sevco Media called “Big Spending on Ibrox and Auchenhowie” and I kid you not. One of the posts from the esteemed bears (with over 6,400 posts to his name, so not a Tim on the wind up) starts his epistle with this nugget. . .

“That’s embarrassing and total lies if true.”

With shrewd fans like that, it’s no wonder their second club is going the way of the first.
