We are in the summer, when without football games, sports pages are filled with less certain content.  Transfer ‘speculation’ can cross the line between pure invention and an angle a club or agent is trying to make a reality.

For example, if an agent believes Celtic are likely to lose a left back, he can be motivated to link his left back client with the club.  Clubs are usually courteous to agents, so they’ll formally ‘look’ at the player, whether there is interest or not.  Often whether they look, or not.

This is where we are with left backs right now.  Celtic are trying to keep Greg Taylor, Greg has yet to agree a contract, so everyone knows Celtic could have a vacancy in that position.  I expect names being mentioned as interesting Celtic are a mix of idle speculation and agent-fuelled promotion.

    If you’re talking about GS’ first goal in the NYD game on 2 1 2011 then the ball to him was from Ledley,

     

    not Mulgrew.

    For tje following reasion, I have not responded to your previous requests for examples and details of Celtic losing out due to the 3% differential.

     

     

    I do not know, but more importantly you do not know.

     

    What I do know is that a player earning £1m per year will pay >£31k more in tax.

     

     

    I have not argued the merit or not of the higher tax rate; what I have stated is that the player or more likely Celtic will require to pay the differential. Im sure players agents will be all over this where applicable.

     

     

    To reitterate, its makes it that bit more costly and potentially another obstacle to overcome when atracting or retaining top class talent compared to our neighbours.

     

     

    I have no doubt you will respond, however after that lets put this to bed for now before we bore everyone to sleep.

    Balikwisha? No no no no no! Can Rodgers ever sign a winger who takes his man on the outside. Another fancy , check inside and cross the ball. Too one paced for me. We need speed in the team. Hope it’s just media nonsense.

    It was a legit point you made and there has been an interesting discussion over it.

     

     

    From a personal perspective I’d make two points, the first has been already made, folk on these types of salaries will have personal financial advisers ensuring they are not paying over the odds in Tax.

     

     

    The other, which struck me immediately, though I dont think it has been mentioned, is the cost of living.

     

     

    Living in the home counties is much more expensive than living in Scotland, living in London is astronomical these days.

     

     

    There is also the quality of life issue…

     

     

    Yet I’m sure that KT looked at his Arsenal salary and thought what a huge some of money.

     

     

    Then moved down and started living in London and thought, what a huge some of money.

     

     

    He is going back to Scotland on a smaller salary sure, but my guess, his outgoings will be a fraction of his London costs

     

     

    So taking account of Tax efficient advise and overall cost of living, the 3% difference is not that significant

    Balance between full back inverting low and staying wide high (to overlap inverted winger) shifts slightly.

     

     

    A few more crosses into the box, both early at pace from overlapping full back AND after retention from deeper angle (e.g. Taylor to Idah at Fir Park)

     

     

    And, urgently needed, IMHO – clearer identifiers we are not breaking a very aggressive press (5 or 6 opponents in our final third) triggering one of a small set of floated chips (straight, angled) up to halfway – which should be a strength of Adam’s.

    STV talking with Maxwell about (among various matters) VAR ended by suggesting there were a few questionable decisions; the example they used was of a possible penalty denied for the deid team against us. No mention of the much criticised Muir denying us the equaliser at Easter Road.

     

     

    By the bye, I wouldn’t put much stock by any article that Chris McLaughlin pens about the deid team. They withdrew all cooperation for about 6 months with the BBC because he told the truth about them. The BBC probably censor all his work.

    AT You are reiterating your error imo Gp,solely a cash difference that ‘agents will be all over’ not a word of the benefits ie

     

    -becoming a winner with a world class coach

     

    -Gaining European experience(a thing that can not be done in any of the lower divisions not compared to by you)

     

    – General quality of life in Scotland when at that income level

    Rich folk should pay more tax they benefit most from the system that is set up. It should not be seen as a tax on the rich but a tax for the rich (without the workers with are poor).

     

     

    Income tax is not the best way to tax the rich because few rich folk make their money from income for work. A tax on wealth would be more appropriate.

     

     

    The tax gap between scotland and England is used to undermine Scottish tax policy and folk use football because its an emotive subject area. My heart does not bleed for super rich young men getting paid millions a year. If it’s more challenging for us to sign players so be it.

     

     

    Here is the thing thought, there is a footballing cartel operating in the uk that denies scottish clubs acess to 100 of millions of pounds a year by denying entry to said compitition.

     

     

    We all know broadcasting in the UK is combined which in turn means we get the epl pushed on us and our children all the time. That greatly impacts on income on our gates and television deal etc. Scotland makes up 7% of the UK population but scottish football does not get close 7% of the money spent/given to football it by the bbc and sky etc.

     

     

    We may be in a union but it is not one of equals. Whilst the English game grows and develops with money from the UK purse scottish football slowly deteriorates.

     

     

    Leveling up is a phrase I hear a lot but football is a microcosm of the wider issue of a union for the south, operated by the south to benefit the south. No business in the UK should be told where I can operate regardless of the football/ sports operations.

    Not doing big walks but still walking locally in EK. Cycling a bit more now with the Camino buddies. Did a return trip from Kilsyth to Strathblane via the Schoenstatt Shrine at Clachan of Campsie yesterday – 28 miles. Great day out.

    How many times have you actually seen Balikwisha play?.He was injured a lot of last season.I watch loads of football from all over.Never even knew who he was before.In fact,,have never seen any of the ” Millions” of wingers linked with us play.
