Spending big money in France

Christopher Jullien was 26 years old when Celtic paid Toulouse €8m for him four years ago.  We paid PSG even more a year earlier for Odsonne Edouard, then 20.  It is France, not England or Japan, that Celtic feel confident enough to spend their highest transfer fees.

Compared to England, Germany, Italy and Spain, Celtic possibly see better value in France.  €8m would get you little more than a huge gamble in some of these markets.  The possibility of returning to France for a player valued in the same bracket as Christopher and Odsonne, who matches our age and development opportunity profile, makes a lot more sense than picking up players on Kieran Tierney’s wages.

The English FA responded to a mistake in the Manchester United – Wolves game by their Video Assistant Referees last night by the Head of Refereeing apologising to the Wolves manager and suspending both VARs.  They acted in a similar fashion last year.

Mistakes happen, referees and VARs are fallible, it is unnecessary to pretend otherwise.  The SFA would walk VAR technology off a cliff rather than hold their hands up to a mistake made in review.

Kelsey Grammar is also the voice of Sideshow Bob in The Simpsons.

I didnt know that either. I havent watched much of The Simpsons to be honest..but I THINK that Ive have had watch every episode of ” FRASIER” NUMEROUS times.

FRASIER is the BSET comedy Show ever to come out of America….or anywhere for that matter.

SUPERB Acting, Scripts….and I believe that the Show WON several ” EMMY” Awards ?

FRASIERS ” DAD”…Actor JOHN MAHONEY was actually born in BLACKPOOL.

I think he p[assed away, a year or two ago.

  2. Im glad that I am NOT alone in loving the TV Show…FRASIER”.

God knows ” How many times Ive watched the Re Runs”.

Christ that’s brutal. Back to Sportscene for scouting.

EPL has no value for us either. Hoping all that’s nonsense too.

Hoping all of it’s MSM nonsense.

Big Lagerbeilke, with his plastic pitch experience, straight into the team for Saturday.

    Getting restless csc

Clearly , Big Joe is past his best and there have been several moments where you make for the back of the sofa.

The last keeper I didn’t feel worried about in Europe was big Frazer , Craig was always very suspect in Europe.

When sourcing a new keeper we need someone who is both comfortable under crosses. , high ball , modern tip tap about and bread and better shot stopping.

Big Joe played well last week and looked secure at corners ….. I suspect many of our prospective keepers may struggle with the high ball aspect of Scottish football…..

The issue we have is that our recent success was built around Joe, CCV and Carlos ….. we need to be careful dismantling / changing this , looks like CCV may be subject to more injuries this season after 2 years more or less constant playing …. makes the keeper upgrade probably our most important decision

  5. Allen Kelsey Grammer is an American actor and producer. He gained fame for his role as psychiatrist Dr. Frasier Crane on the NBC sitcom Cheers and its spin-off Frasier. At nearly 20 years, this is one of the longest-running roles played by a single live-action actor in U.S. television history

i didnt know his 1st name is ” ALLEN”….I also didnt know that Kelsey Grammer was born in the same year as me ( 1955), only he is 10 months older than me.

I also didnt know that HE was born in the U.S. VIRGIN ISLES…….

Is that a different place than ” The VIRGIN ISLES” ?

  6. I have MUTED my TV so that I can AVOID the Engurlund Pundit Pish on BBC 1.

Hwever, I see that ALEX SCOTT is STILL holding a PEN….for NO GOOD Reason whatsoever…

Does she SLEEP with a PEN ?

Weirdo……although I strongly suspect that by CONSTANTLY holding a Pen on TV, is her way of TRYING to look somehow better/more knowledgeable than other Pish Pundits….like SHE is in CHARGE ….

    SHE AINT !

    Niles ironing disaster.

There was a story at the time of recording this scene that some TV person on the show shouted out….”AH WELL, thats another EMMY for David”…in acknowlegement for DAVID HYDE PIERCE’s SUPERB Acting….once again.

    A GREAT Comedy actor.

  9. I stumbled on a great old FLEETWOOD MAC Song from 1969, with Peter Green.

Its called ” MAN OF THE WORLD”

    Super song.

I remember liking it in 1969 when I was 13…going on 14. I like it even mor enow.

  10. DENIABHOY @ 10:00 AM,

Meanwhile our cash surplus has a cash surplus which also has a cash surplus

How true, we added to it in January and again this summer, 45 mn on our 60 mn bank balance.

From my calculations we have spent a bit more than 15 mn

    So Turkeybhoy/Tom McLaughlin

We have gone to S Korea and got value, we have the cash for a quality replacement for Jota, our nickel and diming time has gone, if Prodence is the man let’s get him in.

    Tom McL @ 09:57 – sound logic.

That said a combination of strategic thinking and, frankly, mean spiritedness on my part …

…. would have enjoyed seeing them eliminated last night and their annual turnover being cut 10% at a stroke.

  13. Tom McLaughlin on

With Hatate out for a month, while I like Turnbull in midfield, I’d love to see Odin Holm given a run in the team. He looks a cracking player.

  14. DENIABHOY on 16TH AUGUST 2023 10:00 AM

Think someone said yesterday that last night’s result was worth around 7 million to them…

Happy to be corrected on this, but my understanding is that the €5M payment is given only to the play-off losers, to compensate for losing access to the CL group stage money.

If all clubs who reach the play-off round were given this sum, then the winners would enter the group stage with an extra payment denied to those who go directly to the groups.

Did the Ibrox club get €5M more than us for reaching the group stage last year?

No, I’m sure they didn’t…and won’t this year if they fluke their way past PSV.

  15. Every time I see young Cantwell diving , I have the image of Micheal Sheen playing old Cloughie telling the Leeds players to put their medals away as they won them by cheating …..
