Interesting development reported this morning by the BBC that the SPFL have sold rights to a Chinese broadcaster for around £500k per year. With rights for major European leagues commanding premium fees, it seems intuitive that there’s space for lower-cost content, but Scottish football must be starting from a position of practically zero market knowledge in China. Unless Zheng Zhi is a whole lot more popular than I realised.
The other aspect about China to bear in mind is the size and habits of its gambling market. If you are a gambler, you don’t watch football for the thrill of following your favourite team, you watch for the opportunity to beat the bookie, and in this respect, Scottish football is as valuable as any league.
Sport’s relationship with gambling has been a source of concern, especially in the Scottish lower leagues, but when you look up your fixture list and see the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership, there’s no point getting precious about the influence Chinese gamblers.

I hate playing golf but love watching it, last day on a Sunday night there is nothing better than the PGA tour, obviously I usually have a small financial investment but playing golf is a good walk spoiled, as I youngster I played quite regularly but once I realised it was pointless I wrapped it, my 2 older brothers didn’t start playing till their 40s and they love it and are out playing every weekend

I think the game would be improved if they made the course a bit smaller and levelled it out into a rectangle shape ,put a net at each end of the course to catch balls,made the ball softer but a lot larger and instead of just one man and a stick make it one man minding the nets at either end and 20 others chasing the ball around

The way i think about things is something along the lines of WWF wrestling.I know this is not much a sport but they are able to stream to whichever platform you wish a bout featuring whichever wrestler you choose.
I would substitute wrestling bouts for a football match,hence tailoring the match watched to that fans needs.so clubs can control their own revenue and it will be based on teams own fans buying their own match.
I do not have sky,if anything it has forced me to get out and see more games.I do not need there stupid panellists farting about a game i have watched and played for 50 odd years.
Looking at todays deal with China i would say is old hat.there is no new money in the pot.

Talking about television, I have just cancelled Sky the person i chatted with made no attempt to retain my custom, when I pointed out £5billion to the EPL and £14 m to the SPFL I was told this is what Scottish football is worth, I even mentioned Henry of the handball fame getting 4M per annum while Celtic got £2.5 for winning a league, no change, I hope this EPL deal busts Sky

Gerryfaethebrigg………………..I would be just like your brothers, I started playing in my forties after being brain washed by a crowd of blokes I worked with who seemed to be forever talking about handicaps and stableford points etc. Luckily I played other sports and got the hang of the game. Love being outdoors and the social aspect.

Both brothers just moan about how bad they play, like yourself it’s also the social aspect for them, bunking off to Santa Ponsa, La Manga or Tenerfie for golfing weekends, I have yet to see them pack their clubs, thing is both their wives don’t question them so maybe I will start back “playing golf” myself

Jimmynotpaul, a colleague of mine used to work in La Lanterna as a dogsbody in their kitchen on Friday and .Saturday nights. He did it for over ten years as he got free meals the nights he worked, a la carte quality, as a member of staff. He told me it was the only decent food he had each week.
Regarding our wee chat earlier about a certain former poster possibly posting under a another name. The original poster posted occasionally about never forgiving Fergus for the way he treated Tommy. The person now posting in a similar fashion mentioned the other night about the way Fergus treated Tommy. Another coincidence.
