SPFL ‘computer’ giving excuses to fail to those who need them

383

I love it when opponents get their excuses for failure in before a ball is kicked.  Reaction to yesterday’s Premiership fixture announcement, which sees Newco visit Celtic Park on 17 October, at the end of the first round of games, was conspiratorial.  You would have thought Wee Willie John McFadyen’s computer was running things.  Suspicion was also raised that Newco visit Aberdeen on the opening day of the season.

I hope they continue to lay the conspiracy theories on thick, providing a ready excuse to fail.  They will need it.

Perhaps it’s time for the club to clarify the facts about “VSTs and How they Work” to stop all the conflicting rumours in circulation and allow everyone to make sure they are set up properly. Perhaps a test transmission ?

  2. Buddy Morrisey on

All those conspiracy theories about Peter’s unseen hand giving Celtic some level of crowd advantage in the Glasgow derby fixture on 17th Oct. Anyone wanting fairness can seek the return fixture to have the same level of crowd at Ibrox in January. Simples!

  3. Not a bad game of fitba that EPL game between Arsenal and Leicester.

Tierney again getting plaudits for his display. And again I think it was only average by KT standards. Reiterating my point that there are some bang average players getting paid huge amounts.

When I think of CalMac, Christie, Forrest and Rogic. How lucky we are. I’m deliberately not mentioning Eddie – oops don’t tell ‘em your name Pike.

You can add Frimpong , Ajer and Elhamed as EPL standard or better.

  4. p.s. I didn’t mention Broony. But only because he is not for sale and has already proven himself to be too good for the EPL.

Absolutely spot on. Remember also, he tried to blame Celtic fans for torching the Sevco Super Bus. Talked about ‘the jealousy of others’ meaning us. He’s definitely one to be watched his affability is a front. He’s also a shyster.

The original Sadie’d Bhoys, very well put. I had forgotten about the bus being torched and Sally’s comments after it. Did it not turn out to be an insurance job with one of the owners of the company going through an expensive divorce at the time?

    ………………………..

I can’t remember the precise details to be honest. I seem to remember the report of the divorce. There was also a suggestion that it could be attributed to jealousies and rivalries amongst coach owners and bus companies.

I didn’t read the blog yesterday but have caught up and must pass on my best wishes to NeustadtBraw and his good news about his health – braw, awfy braw. Smiley Braw thingy.

I wonder if I’m the only person who visited a beer garden yesterday and only drank coffee? I’m on a serious NHS diet for 3 months that does not allow alcohol, that’s what I get for being a fat bassa. I’m trying to emulate Malorbhoy who has become the Twiggy of the grey brigade.

There’s talk we’ve set a £40 million price tag on Eddie but I fear that may be too low. Place £50 million on him, paid 100% upfront.

With Armstrong, Tierney, Dembele and Van Dyke ripping up trees after Celtic, I fear we could be fighting to hold on to our big players this summer.

    McAllister v McStay

No surprise to me that wee Gordan Strachan chose McCallister over McStay.

McStay never played with strachan other than 20 games or so at international level.

When you are picking your all time XI usually in most cases you are going to favour the guys you played with week in week out rather than a certain amount of international matches.

Unless you are John Collins of course.

But you are right it is all about perspective…..However you don’t need to be a top pro footballer to be able to judge who is who.

I am just an ordinary supporter and if anybody wants to tell me that Gary McAllister was a better player than Paul McStay then I suggest they are wrong on all levels.

McStay gets voted down because he never played in the glorious english top flight. That is the fact here.

Wether he was just being nice because it was his testimonial Sir Alex Ferguson described McStay as the best player in his position of his generation .

Billy McNeill was adamant that McStay was the best midfielder in the British Isles and Pat Bonner described McStay as the finest player he played with out with Roy Keane.

Despite taking penalties for a time McCallister underperformed at international level. His goal return of 5 was way down on the 150 or so he scored at club level. He was a goalscoring midfielder who never really scored many goals at international level.

Gary McCallister was a very good player but was far too functional and ABC for me.McStay had that sprinkle of magic that seems to have been absent from high level Scottish players in this century when we used to produce them so frequently.

  22. !!Bada Bing!! on

I remember Collins moaned about not being able to play centre midfield, The Maestro was out for months injured, so he got his wish, not in the same class as Paul McStay was the outcome. He was holding court in a hotel in Seville, the day after the game, all he done for the 2 minutes I gave him was slag the team,a sharp exit from me.

Outlets that rely on transfer gossip talk as if Covid hasn’t happened. They expect the market to act as normal.

Clubs will have less money. That’s the reality. Transfer fees are predicted to fall anywhere from 15% to 40% depending on where you read.

Celtic’s thinking is fairly logical. There is no point accepting a lesser fee this window if that’s what’s on offer. It’s better to hold onto Ntcham, Edouard, and Ajer for another 12 months, benefit from their talents for another year and then sell when the market picks up summer 2021.

    Celtic don’t need to sell.

  24. I liked John Collins but not in the same league as the maestro. I still have that brillant image from standing in the jungle where he played that amazing through ball for Morris against the huns….genius…

  25. Celtic don’t need to sell.

    ——-

That’s true, Timaloy, but it’s the clubs that need to buy that worry me. Crystal Palace will be in the market for a striker this summer or they’ll likely get relegated next season, they’ve Benteke upfront at the minute !

Celtic have shown that when their valuation is met, they allow the player to talk. I’d put off these middle England clubs now with an outrageous asking fee and onerous payment conditions.

  26. Hearing positive vibes on Fraser Forster, Chelsea appear to be the the other Club that have shown an interest in him but it is unclear if they now have someone else lined up. Trying to get more information, watch this space…

    Keep the Faith!

  27. Sometimes, though, you really wonder if Irony is truly dead, as in :-

The Ayn Rand Institute was among the recipients of funds under the Paycheck Protection Programme in the USA. They applied for and received a government loan, and even gave their spurious reasons for doing so:-

“We view the loan not as a handout but as partial restitution for government injustices………….If as proponents of freedom we refrained from applying and instead watched as the money went only to statists…….”

So much for pulling yourselves up by your own bootstraps- they’ve gone all socialist now and seem to be also in favour of a Reparations standpoint.

Time will tell. As I said, I think Covid will prevent clubs from offering big fees so it would be a surprise if Edouard’s valuation is met in this window.

Celtic have in the past walked away from deals that met the player valuation. Boyata is a case and point. Brendan Rodgers wanted to keep him till the end of his contract.

  29. Forster to Chelsea has never made any sense. They just extended Caballero’s contract in May.
