SPFL ‘computer’ giving excuses to fail to those who need them

383

I love it when opponents get their excuses for failure in before a ball is kicked.  Reaction to yesterday’s Premiership fixture announcement, which sees Newco visit Celtic Park on 17 October, at the end of the first round of games, was conspiratorial.  You would have thought Wee Willie John McFadyen’s computer was running things.  Suspicion was also raised that Newco visit Aberdeen on the opening day of the season.

I hope they continue to lay the conspiracy theories on thick, providing a ready excuse to fail.  They will need it.

  1. Problem is,we have to suffer all this transfer guff a lot longer this season, with the extension. If Eddy hits the goal trail at home, and in the Qualifiers straight away, there will be interest.40 million,if true, would be impossible to turn down.Lets hope no one bites. All the more reason Klimala gets plenty of early game time.Does not have to be anywhere near as good as Eddy to get 25-30 goals.Different types of strikers.

Hooper,Mc Donald,Griff prove the point. We have plenty of creative players to supply the chances.

  2. Transfer guff sells newspapers. Nothing we can do about it but chill and see where we are as a squad at the end of the window. We’ve a good stable core at the club and if we get FF and hold onto Eddie we just need some clever pruning around the edges.

  3. Anyone looked at AEK ,Barkas,on You tube.Incredible goalkeeper.Known as”The supernatural””The Wall”a good few videos of him.Have a look,if doing nothing.Worth it.

  4. The Celtic transfer policy right now consists of getting a goalkeeper.

We will be monitoring players in a number of positions but Neil has already suggested they are looking for “one or two” new faces.

    No plans for squad overhaul.

If somebody comes in with £25+ million for any of our stars it will be difficult to turn down. The structure of the deal is also important.

I think the market will be quiet when it comes to that price range. There will be plenty of free agents cutting about.

As YouTube can make most players look good, we sometimes have to look for something else. For me, that was the calm attitude displayed by both him and his team mates after his good saves. That made it seem as though these stops were just par for the course for this guy.

Rogic would feature more in Away games.

Playing two goalkeepers is a bit conservative for Hamilton at home

Then again.. maybe Sevco should have tried it

  8. Looks like the trip to France is on. No quarantine required if traveling back from there. Not so, for Spain.

  9. The hand of God on

The Maestro and big Roy are exactly the type of players that would take our current team to new levels.Paul could see and play defence splitting passes that others could only dream off and Roy would ensure that no one would bully our team plus he could play a bit too.I liked John Collins as a Celtic player and so I’m sure did everyone else at the time but he was a level below Paul McStay and as for McAllister he couldn’t place the Maestro’s boots.

  10. HOT SMOKED,

His one on ones impressed me.Dont know if you saw his save against Liverpool.Unbelievable reflexes.Looks in total command of his area.Looks a bargain at 5 million Euros.

  11. I know we want them back playing but I don’t know why they had to go to England for camp and France for games.

It is non essential could have stayed home.

  14. Re. the 2 goalkeepers in the side you’ll find that Sevco always play with 2goalies.

Mind you the second one is usually called the ref

  15. Hand of God….

    Controversial klaxon…

I thought Roy Aitken was massively overrated. The centenary year was won with a massive dose of Billy Stark imho….

  16. You just know that the self-rationalising Sevconuts will be saying: “Aye, decent backup behind Morelos and Dybala…Pleased with that.”

    Deluded.

  17. The things that can likely be stalling Forsters move back are finance and lifestyle. Both are for Fraser to figure out. I really can’t see any top premier league team taking him because he doesn’t fit the new mold. He’s basically a shot stopper but he’s not comfortable in the keeper/sweeper role which all the top teams like.

I think he’ll come to accept this and hopefully before Neil signs someone else. We’re lucky we have Bain on board. The position was secure for him before his injury.

  18. Always good to point and laugh at the deluded ones winning the pre season cup.

More important, however, to keep our own house in order. Have we made a mistake in the goalkeeper position. Had FF been in doubt, could and should we have kept CG?

This season is too important for a ‘just enough’ approach.

  19. Glad to hear Sevco are back in for Kamberi. I read this morning they were in for a Liverpool under 20 who scored 7 goals in 15 appearances in the championship. I suspect he’s too good for Klopp to send up to Slippy so Kamberie will do me nicely.

  20. Uncle Jimmy

To be fair to the club we put a relevant offer to Craig and he turned it down to be 1st choice not 3rd. We also had the foresight to agree a deal around FF but seems closure is down to the big lad, as is his want to be fair.

It ain’t over til it’s over. I expect the big man to rock up still….

  21. got my refund today; feeling a bit guilty

my wife has put me straight ‘Celtic and big enough to survive and we can’t be throwing money away’

During he 9IAR run I have looked back each pre-season to what was happening during their run in 90s

Last season mirrored quite well with a strong challenge from the eventual 2nd place team falling away after Christmas along with internal strife and some bad results. The team with the bigger and more experienced squad won (plus a dodgy ref at New Year)

in 1997/98, the challenger had to rebuild the team and go again. The champions bought players but were essentially ageing.

This time around i see no similarities. Celtic rebuilt last year and should be stronger this year. I see no major new additions coming into the Sevco squad. They might get the young Liverpool forward on loan but i think their defence will be their downfall

Conclusion: no landslide , but i am very confident for the 10. First time we can genuinely sing ‘Magic’ . Seems five minutes ago that we were worried about singing it due to us only being at 6 in a row!
