SPFL review but know to expect further challenges

1294

The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to.  This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.

If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).

The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

  1. Will Barry now serialise his story in the the Scottish Hun, sorry sun?

Well you would if you needed the money.

“Also, how lucky is it that he declared bankruptcy 6 years after transferring the house and not 5 years, eh?”

    Ah! Interesting…

Your not trying to suggest that Bazza had no intention of paying back all those loans from his beloved Rangers now.

He knew the £2.5 mil was just a loan right?

    Hail Hail

  5. Scottish Sun reporting that Moussa wasn’t training today. Sounds ominous for the Rosenburg game.

  6. The implication in the Sun was “He’s not training so he must be preparing to go to Marseille”

However, they did say later in the article that he was at Lennoxtown but didn’t train with the team. Sounds like he has a fitness issue.

  7. Sounds like Lord Nimmo Smith should have been talking to BF about the outcome of the BTC and no Rod (now where did I put that evidence?) McKenzie.

Sounds like we’re going into the most important game of the season so far, without our 2 recognised strikers.

Thanks for your replies to my lengthy post of earlier on- at least somebody read it.

Now BMCUWP on your post at 11.49 – the content of which I agreed with. Except that I would be disinclined to agree with your point re this be the only country where this would happen. I would suspect that in Spain were either of their two megaclubs involved I suspect that there would be a similar reluctance to confront reality. Just an opinion at this stage but quite a strongly held one

VFR800 like you I would be very, very reluctant to stop going but this issue might just be the one. Either that or Brendan punching me in the face!

    Striker shortage for Rosenborg?

    ___

Possible striker shortage. Dembele trained at Lennoxtown alone today.

He didn’t look fit against Linfield so he could be on an individual fitness regime or he could also be managing an injury.

I’d be surprised if we see Dembele play 90 minutes on Wednesday.

  13. BAMBOO….

……………..and only wan centre half over 6 ‘.

    Should we be worried?

  14. Good afternoon all.

Sorry to go off at a tangent but a couple of ‘technology-for-dummies’ type questions.

I’m about to buy a new laptop and I’ve already copied any important documents and photos, etc from my current laptop onto an external hard drive. So when i get the new laptop is it simply a case of plugging the external drive into the new one and copying the files over from the drive to the laptop?

Related to this is my iTunes library. Should I simply be able to download iTunes onto the new laptop and sign in to my account and, hey presto, all of my current music library will be there?

Will catch any replies later as I really should be working…

One more sleep till the Rosenborg game (where I might take responsibility for starting the singing) and just 3 more sleeps till the 13th CQN Open at Aberdour. What a time to be alive!

All hell’s broken loose, the Huns are going off their nuts, meanwhile I’m still making lots of commission.

WHY THE FOOK DO FOLK STILL READ THE FOOKING SUN AND DAILY R?

    ___

I didn’t read the Sun. But you can catch summarised versions of the story via other unrelated sources like Scotzine.

There was a rumour about Dembele’s fitness on here via Catman and then on twitter via John James. Certainly, Demebele didn’t look fit to me when Celtic played Linfield.

Like I said, he might still play but I don’t believe he’s in peak condition and I don’t expect him to play 90 mins.

  20. Aitchison is a number 9 , play him you dont know until you try, then the media can sell him to Arsenal as thats who he really wants to play with in their opinion.

  21. Tim Malone Will Tell on

I suppose the good news is that the whole fiasco is coming towards some kind of climax and definitive outcome.

If you look at things dispassionately, the SPFL are faced with a decision as to whether you piss off the Tims or piss off the Huns – and I would suspect that the fact that Celtic are already riding pretty high and are financially secure will in some way go towards a decision that says the Huns will be placated by the SPFL.

What will be interesting though is the tone that is struck and the words that are used when the SPFL issue their statement on Wednesday. If it goes along the lines of saying that “certain decisions were made for the perceived good of the game 5 years ago” and that “its difficult to revisit the decisions made 5 years ago” then that would at least be a little more open and a nod towards regret that things were not handled appropriately at the time.

It will be interesting to see what the next step actually is – CAS, judicial review – or something completely different. Does anybody have an inkling?

Honestly, I wouldn’t mind. I’m pretty sure that we were missing Larsson vs Stuttgart in the Seville season. We gave young Shaun Maloney a go and he scored. We won 3-1 on the night.

Otherwise, Scotty Sinclair looked like he was in great form. He could get Celtic a couple of goals in him.
