SPFL review but know to expect further challenges

1294

The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to.  This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.

If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).

The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

Episode 5 of The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind comes hot on the heels of one of the club’s most controversial European ties in recent memory.

    Fair enough fhella.

TBH,since yesterday my thoughts have been soley on the review and it’s seeming sham, not considered tomorrow night’s line-up much.I’d imagine Moussa has some kind of problem but until Brendan rules him out then hope springs.

Fact is if we don’t make it through it’ll be entirely our own fault. We should have enough, and definitely shouldn’t be unprepared.Although the possibility of having no first team strikers available does seem a tad careless.

In Brendan we trust I suppose.

Bada Bing , i’m sure Neil thought Macdonald was going to sign for Hibs last season but renewed his contract at Fir Park.

Neil wasn’t happy about this and told the media he thought Scott used Hibs’ interest in him to get a better deal at Motherwell.

Celtic Mac, hopefully not too downcast tomorrow

  4. AULDHEID @ 11:48 AM,

    Good points…

“If titles cannot be removed because it’s not in the rules, where is the rule that allows titles to be transferred?

Exactly, once again an argument that sounds spurious, didnt you use the example in the Giannina fc case. If that holds true, surely the titles aren’t been stripped, rather Rangers were ineligible to play in the matches so retrospectively, they didn’t win the titles in the first place?

“If it’s in the 5 Way only is it ultra vires?

    This means nothing to me…

“If it’s not in the 5 way what rule allows the SPFL to move the history of Oldco to Newco?

Have SPFL asked for legal advice on this or is it yet another fallacy they don’t wish uncovered?”

Of course I’d suggest the latter. Not asking pertinent questions on points that need clarified and putting a “different construction” on the (accepted as been) clarified points.

    Keep up the good work!

correct on both counts. you shouldn’t have any problems transferring files on external hard drive onto new Laptop, and iTunes library will be available once you download the software and sign in with current Apple ID.

WRT the SPFL/SFL debacle, my main worry is Apathy. Not from Celtic fans, who have proven that they’re prepared to back up words with action if they find it necessary. More worried about the supporters of other clubs being prepared to Boycott away games. We may see small numbers stay away, but my experience is that there are very few passionate enough about football these days to commit to something like a boycott. For many, it’s just an excuse for a day out.

Most still see it as an O** F*** issue unfortunately.

We’re very lucky here to have a number of very well-informed contributors, as a result of which, most of us are better informed than your average fitba’ fan. Some fans groups are more pro-active than others and they may well join calls for a boycott, but when it comes down to it, i just think that there’s not enough knowledge of what has gone on with LNS and lies told / truth withheld amongst the rank and file football fan.

I think we’re going to be very much on our own here. I hope I’m wrong.

  7. If Moussa is injured then we should play Aithison. He’s a natural striker and should be given his chance. If not the what’s the point in having a development squad. Its Rosenburg we’re playing not Barcelona. KT was given his chance v Fenerbahce due to Izzy’s suspension and know how that worked out. Trust the youth.

Just read Izzy’s farewell message. That’s him added to Henke and Ian Brown on my mancrush list.

I wonder if the guys down in London at Lindsell Train ever

bought Celtic Shares during the EBT years ..

If they did, and with the Supreme Court ruling now, who know’s

they might just fancy a right few quid from the SFA at some point ..

As Lindsell Train now own 15% of Celtic Shares, they

would certainly have grounds for believing that their

investment shareholding has been adversely affected ..

Separately, and I’m using basic arithmetic here,

but if you put Dermot Desmond’s 29% approx and

Lindsell Train’s 15% then you get 44% of Celtic Shares ..

Only 6.1% short, to get a combined total of 50.1% !!!

In 2012 i was dead set against them being admitted to the SPL and had reservations about them being allowed into the 3rd division as well.

IMHO the punishment should have been more severe but the ruling bodies were never going to consign them to the scrapheap. For me, the continuity myth is more important than title stripping and I would love to see them remove all credit for trophies won by old Rangers from the record of the tribute act. In effect, strip all 54 titles from the current Orcs down Govan way.

That would be a real victory!

Can’t see Aitchison starting, apparently they are quite slow at the back so play Sinclair through the middle and give Armstrong and Rogic license to go beyond him.

Yes, Brendan knows what hes doing. Lots of goals in this team, even if it would be peace of mind having Grffiths and Dembele available we are playing at a very high level and will make chances in both ties IMO

  21. The folly of Griff, corruption of uefa and Dembele’s injury all conspire to leave us short in the striking department.

It’s disappointing that despite our excellent financial performance last season that the two vital areas of striker and central defense look threadbare.

    Unlucky or to frugal?

If we fall at this hurdle will people accept our strategy needs adjusting.

If Atchison is ready then Brendan will use.

I think Ajer is more than ready but Brendan has a far clearer perspective of whats required in his team.

  22. When an athlete tests positive, fans of the sport don`t gang up on the other athletes and tell them to `do something about this`. This, I assume , is because spectators and athletes alike have confidence in their governing body to do the right thing.

I can understand the lack of confidence in Football`s governing bodies in Scotland but is it really only Celtic`s job to ensure the Regan and Doncaster do theirs ?

Fair enough Foxy but, as was said earlier, you cannot kid a kidder.

The guys that really contributed during The Troubles are not on here contributing wall-to-wall Rebs.

But, some of them are on here, and they have been speaking much sense this week.

Back to work for me now

    ————————————————————-

You give the impression here, that there is consensus out there, that ‘the guys that really contributed to the troubles’ are outraged at the actions of the GB last week.

Having read various posts along similar lines – Phil MacG meeting a former IRA prisoner in Letterkenny springs to mind – I decided to conduct my own poll ( admittedly with only about half a dozen individuals) of some Celtic-minded sympathisers , of my own acquaintances who fit into the ex prisoner/activist category.

While one or two concurred with my own view that the banners were inappropriate I didn’t get from any of them the hand wringing and condemnation of the GB we’ve had here. The general opinion about Celtic’s retaliatory reaction however, was much more forthright. The ban, punishing the many for the sins of the few, has resonated negatively much more with these same people, all of whom have been subjected to abuses of power against them, ranging from petty to draconian.

SFTB. I think an open mind is needed here. Up and down this land there are bands, with quite a few ex-prisoners/activists, who are belting out rebel songs nightly. That doesn’t mean that they want to go back to war.

  25. CELTIC BY NUMBERS on 25TH JULY 2017 1:22 PM

Cheers mate. I’ve only just starting reading your blogs in the last few months and find them quite interesting, the stat(IIRC) on Griffith’s only having 2 shots the entire season inside the 6 yard box was astonishing, but if you watch him he’s always looking for a cut back as opposed to the ball between defender and keeper.

I used to work for a NFL analytical company in the states(PFF), so I know how painfully time consuming it must be for you. My main criticism of them, was that they made the stats the narrative, rather than having the narrative strengthened by the stats, if that makes sense. Analytics were obviously made famous by Moneyball, but it has to be applied differently to other sports. Baseball can pretty much be defined by stats. Basketball to a lesser degree. The NFL is so tactical and has so many variables, stats only tell part of the story. Much the same with football, though for different reasons, given it’s free flowing nature.

Anyway, keep it up the good work, it is appreciated, and I’m sure you’ll get better and better the more experience you gain.
