SPFL review but know to expect further challenges

1294

The new SPFL board yesterday agreed that some sort of review should take place into the debacle which saw Rangers collapse into liquidation. While this is welcome as far as it goes, its scope will necessarily be bound by what the SPFL previously agreed to bind itself to.  This was clear from the off, which I alluded to at the time.

If you contractually agree to limit your future actions for all purposes, you tie your own hands. This is where the SPFL are now and it is the reason we must look beyond them. The actions of those who tied their own hands are just as important as matters pertaining to the integrity of Scottish football’s competitions (the Scottish Cup and SFL League Cup, as well as the SPL).

The SPFL are not the only ones who are looking into this matter. They know to expect challenges during the course of the next two months.

Fair enough if says nothing that would fine.

But I don’t think what he said was all that bad

  4. Rodgers will be gone before Xmas.. DEmbele , if fit, will be gone before end of this window. Same as Armstrong.. Will sign a couple of free agents and say its a tough market.

If I read Catman properly then Moussa and Leigh could be doubts for next week.

I would prefer Hayes to play instead of C.M.

    Hail Hail

  6. Said the other day and it looks like it’s happened. It’s a disgrace that we only have 2 recognised strikers at the club. Things like that, when injuries come at the wrong time, can easily get you knocked out cups.

  7. Rodgers added that Sviatchenko “could well miss this game”, saying 19-year-old Kristoffer Ajer “could potentially” come into contention.

Have just seen the Brendan Rodgers interview re the Green Brigade. A bit of my respect for him, and a bit of my love for Celtic, has just faded. Squirrel indeed. Wishing I hadn’t paid £26.50 to activate my card for tomorrow night now.

    ————————————————————–

Don’t let Brendan Rodgers do that to you. Supporters all over the world will celebrate Celtic, the Fenians, Irish Republicanism, and Michael Davitt long after Brendan’s gone.

I guess that BR has set such a high standard of eloquence and perception thus far that I expect that as the norm.

To combine/conflatethe issues of politics and pyros is an easy slip of the tongue and mind but a huge philosophical step.

There have been some excellent posts, in my opinion yours have been very negative. Has that been your intention?

Here in Cork they try to wind me up by calling me a “Norry” they get one of two responses

    a) I would rather be a Norry than a Sorry. Or

    b) I’m so much of a Norris they had to put a border in.

Confuses the feck out of them.

More seriously, which top European sides that generally play with one striker, have three European class players for the same single role.

  14. Negative????? It s positive Celtic have POSITIVELY done nothing to stop the corruption. But have gone along with it. Positively attacked their own supporters but say nothing about other fans at Parkhead. Positively say nothing about racist abuse of Celtic players and players being attacked on the park.. But condemn publicly a banner that they also used on the Celtic view (see paddy mcCourt. They have postiveley led the Res 12 a merry dance.

Ok, I’ll let your slur against Michael Davitt go.

Let’s change the subject, who’s your favourite English club?

    HH

  16. Scottish football is finished. There is no point watching corruption when even the victims of the fraud play along with it. On the park Celtic have again went into CL games without strengthening the squad. We won no games in last years CL…None the year before in EL. Got through each round by the skin of out teeth every year we do qualify for CL But same every time.. lets see if we can qualify before spending money. unreal.. If we beat Rosenburg which I dion’t think we will after watching last weeks games . then we have no chance against a better team . Dembele is not fit Our one centre half is injury prone. we have an injury prone right back and cover is injured.. but we hvel 12 midfielders and bought another 3 this summer. And we have a keeper who can throw games away with a joke keeper as cover

  17. Ultimately, we have to use the youth players at some point. Otherwise, what’s the point?

I’d expect to see Dembele in the squad with Aitchison. Give the lad a chance.

Also, Sinclair has played as a striker before and was effective at Tynecastle in that role.

It’s a worry alright. At best, I’m hoping Brendan can deliver a 2-0 win. Even if it’s boring, I wont care a jot.

  19. Starry plough I have been at Parkhead all my life from 4 years old in 66 .. We always knew they cheated on the park.. and off it but when we got a chance to do something about it we helped them literally back from the dead… You are happy with that?

    ____

Armstrong will leave if he doesn’t sign a contract. That’s the reality of football since the Bosman ruling. If you haven’t noticed, we have already spend money on a new central midfielder.

Rodgers will be here for this season and the next. I don’t doubt it.

Dembele will go some time but I suspect he’d stay another year if we qualify for the CL (or at least til XMas)

Shouldn’t you give the club credit for signing such a talented player that clubs all over Europe are chasing him? He’s a “Peter Lawwell” signing after all.

  21. If you want to take people to FF take Bankier and his crew. Never stood in the jungle in their lives.

Are you suggesting Brendan Rodgers should just dig up the centre circle at Celtic Park and belatedly tell Michael Davitt to do one?

    ###

As Michael Davitt laid the sod of turf, TD Sullivan was invited by Brother Walfrid sung his song, God Save Ireland.

That song commemorates three Irish ‘terrorists’ who were hanged for the murder of a British policeman.

So when exactly did politics become off limits at Celtic Park? Does anyone know?

Awe aye I’m really happy with the situation, ecstatic to be sure..

But if I was as negative as you about Celtic, I would have chucked it by now, you’re sticking yerself up here as some kinda transfer oracle, jeez oh you couldnae make this shite up unless ye worked for the Record..

Typical Celtic though when push comes to shove here we are fighting among ourselves.

I still believe Celtic will come good through this on the field and off the field and if I’m wrong I’ll be the first to admit it on here..

I apologise for calling ye a hun that’s bang out of order.

  26. By the way, Scott Sinclair scored 25 goals for us last year. We still have goals in the team.

We could start with Sinclair, Rogic, Forrest, McGregor & Armstrong in the team who almost scored 70 goals between them last season.
