SPFL will move with the herd, isolating angry losers

746

We received clarity from Uefa on some important issues yesterday and not on others.  Access to the Champions and Europa Leagues next season will be granted only on sporting merit.  This finally nailed hopes of the Null and Void Loyal.  If a league was declared void, its standings and results would not hold, so no sporting merit could be determined.

If Newco want access to the Europa League qualifiers, they need the SPFL to award a winner and second place, despite their protests.  Our old pal Cognitive Dissonance must keep them awake at night.

It is clear from the Uefa statement they have listened and tried to accommodate several scenarios.  Where titles are close, like Italy, where Lazio narrowed the gap on Juventus to a point, Uefa suggest a play-off system could allow chasing teams to make up the difference.  AZ Alkmaar trail Ajax on goal difference but the Dutch league is expected to call a halt to the campaign as early as today.  There are no truly satisfactory closures this season, least of all for Celtic, who will be denied a title winning game.

What we didn’t get was a hard deadline on when teams have to be nominated for European competitions.  After discussions with Uefa, the Italian league extended this season’s Serie A to 2 August, so we know for sure the European draws cannot take place until after that date.

I expect we will see European leagues synchronise their moves; there will be no incentive for any radical undertakings.  Those without rabid losers will be first to call time, the SPFL will move with the herd, as it should.  Then those who called for independent investigations into why the SPFL acted the same way as the rest of Europe will look like the angry losers they are.

Re Cuba, couldn’t agree more – went to Havana in ’95/ 96. Fantastic place, lovely people and an amazing visual experience. We went on first direct flight from Heathrow following the Helms Burton act. Travelled on an ancient Russian jet which was an adventure all in itself!

Stayed with families around Havana and treated brilliantly, things were frugal but the hospitality was first class, also stayed in an an old Fifties style hotel on the coast. Loved it.

Of the 30 articles and 32 sub-clauses in the United Nations deceleration of human rights, foghorn leghorn focuses his misrepresentation on only one,

    Article 21.

    (1) Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.

    (2) Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country.

    Please don’t think I’m having a go, I’m not I’m just curious.

People are now coming off furlough, I never knew that. What has changed to “warrant” this decision.?

As far as I’m aware the Lockdown continues and we have not peaked in this horrible virus. I am fully aware of economic considerations and stores like B&Q are now open.

Just curious my friend and not personal.

Hope you and yours are well and your assistance to a fellow CQN,er has not gone unnoticed.

    Cheers and HH.

Would have stuck with the Sheep but if i try to post a sheep to login, it tell’s me it’s a duplicate comment. Having to ration myself to one sheep a day now. This lockdown is bad news 😳

  11. Good morning, friends, from a still dry and bright East Kilbride.

Greenpinata – some employers are furloughing their staff on a rota basis. To qualify for the government assistance an individual employee has to be furloughed for at least 3 consecutive weeks. Certain businesses are using this to still operate but with less staff. For example I have a niece who’s a vet. She’s worked as normal during April, will be off for the Month of May then potentially back for June, The other vet in her practice has been off April but will be working May, etc. Maybe that’s the situation that David 66 finds himself in although I maybe shouldn’t have butted in ;-)

    ========================================================

    Nonsense.

I just think that its important to counter the cliche of : ” I`m a Celtic supporter , therefore … ”

Followed by a series of ridiculous political , nationalistic and religious assumptions and stereotypes to which far from all Celtic supporters belong and which , were they true ,would put us in the same intolerant box as the huns .

There is no conformity amongst Celtic supporters , because Celtic are open to all .

The principle upon which Celtic were founded .

Sadly forgotten and / or ignored by many on CQN who don`t like to see their cosy little conformist bubble pricked .

Bro. Walfrids vision remains in spite of them .

  13. Greenpinata.- I am not high enough up the food chain to answer that exactly, but for small to medium business and self employed this is a financial timebomb, indeed for everyone and unless we drip feed staff back to work there might not be any jobs. I know the arguments of health against cash/employment etc and I am no belittling that in anyway.

We are only taking 22 of our staff back out of 83 and it’s in environmental works, no tradesmen at this time. This is to enable our staff to practice social distancing whilst trying to stay on top of environmental works to curb infestations etc.

  14. Jobo – we are looking at that the rotation of staff to keep services ticking over.

    ==========

I have had a season ticket since the stadium was rebuilt, and it is set up on the deposit and three payments instalments scheme. I have never changed that because the renewal is automatic and no hassle for me. I have never wanted to change my seat as all those around me have been there for years as well and are good people.

I think clubs will need the support of fans more than ever, and for that reason I would be quite happy for my payments to continue even if I can’t attend games. However, that is fine for me who can afford to do so. For some paying for a season ticket is a struggle as it is, and who knows how their current financial position is affected now.

I hope the club are already considering various options, however how easy is it to do that when we don’t know for sure when games will re-start, even behind closed doors?

  16. Jobo,

Thank you. Yes that is certainly a consideration and an explanation of the furlough process.

I am aware that the paperwork for furlough is horrendous and many are falling through a gap in the system.

I see agency workers having to rely on employers ” goodwill” if they qualify or not. I know individuals who have been placed on furlough because they have a sympathetic and pro active line manager, yet others who have been flung to the wolves.

    Just curious As previously stated.

    Cheers and HH.

  17. Good morning from a bright North Staffs

Was talking to the local pub owner (at a safe distance) who has furloughed his staff but knows that a few of them are working as self employed drivers earning about £400 per week.

Where money is involved there will always be abuse – disappointing.

  18. David 66,

    Cheers.

It certainly is a very challenging situation we find ourselves in. To use a very apt and definitely not over used word. Unprecedented

    HH.

  19. Greenpinata – very challenging for everyone. From putting measures in place for staff as is my job and for the staff to then follow them and believe me I do not take it lightly the severity if I/we get it wrong.

    Take care

  22. Oh have we managed to catch up with Sevco in FtSPFL yet

Only 8 games to go, and were behind Sevco to the tune of + 13pts

So it appears the media have us losing most of our games and Sevco romping home on their current form

    😂😂😂

    🏆🏆🏆🍀🏆🏆🏆🍀🏆🏆🏆🍀🏆**

  23. So we lost 2 games I believe up to the split, that’s 30 league games.

I think we lost 1 or 2 league games last season and invincible the season before.

So in 96 league games we have lost say 4 yet we were going to loose about 4-5 of our remaining 8 😂😂😂😂😂 straws clutching and moonbeams ring to mind.

Champions again whoaaaa, Champions again, Champions again

    Give us our earned title

I am probably his polar opposite in politics but that doesn’t make me any more or less a Celtic supporter. I sure our owner and master he who is never mentioned Desmond has more in common with Macjay than he does with the many of us. Just saying scroll on by if you don’t like. I have seen some posters bullied and chased from CQN over the years and it is wrong. Be kind. Hail Hail Macjay.
