Spinning for trouble by Sky

1044

I try to avoid those who really should be avoided but I caught the report of Peter Lawwell’s Sky TV interview on their website yesterday.  The “No summer sales” headline was misleading in itself as our chief exec actually said “there is no real necessity to sell players now”.

We are a solvent and well-run football club, there is no real, or imagined, necessity to sell, but there is an enormous leap between this status and “no summer sales”.  All clubs, not just Celtic, sell when an offer exceeds their valuation for a player and they believe the money could be more productively redeployed elsewhere.  There is no necessity for Manchester City to sell players, not until the oil runs out in the Middle East, anyway, but they may still sell.

Best part of the article was from Charlie Nicholas, “I’m a bitter idiot. Listen, I’ll prove it…..”

I’ve translated that quote from the vernacular.

Loved newco Rangers accounts.  £3.5m in the bank on 31 December, £1.5m loan since, so they have £5m to operate until the season ticket money comes in, which will just be enough, but cash burn is running at over £1m per month; close to £15m a year.

£30m-£50m is not enough.

“Was he sticking up for the person in question more so than I was, or are we invoking a new, immeasurable uber-Tim licence qualification? ”

If you want to know the answers, ask me.

For the two questions above I’d say :-

Don’t know as I was not comparing my response to yours.

    &

No, I have no measure of uber-Timness or interest in it.

    Kitalba,

Just so there is no misunderstanding…

When I used the words OLD & THICK about myself, I was not ‘decrying’ myself. To me OLD is a plus, & certainly beats the alternative.( George Burns :¬)) )

THICK was used in the Donegal sense of the word, meaning STUBBORN.

I like that version of thick.

Nor do I feel any need to ‘Pull it in’, whatever that means.

Macjay denigrated JF. You responded by saying that she cares as much about Celtic as anybody else.

I disagree with BOTH of you & said so.

    END of….

No drama or insult offered or intended.

    Good Luck.

Pieman will have the questions he wants to be asked lined up (with rehearsed answers) – just like when he was asked about the venue for the League Cup final.

  4. Still loving the positive spin being put on the transfer of Laxey loan to Letham: £45k fee for setting the loan up and 10% added per annum after 2nd July.

    “Wur pyoor saved, min”

Erm, hud on a wee minute.

Instead of paying an extra £150k to Laxey, they’re now tied in to paying £45k, likely rising by another 10% in little over 3 months time.

Now, is that another 10% of £1,000,000 and then £45k for a total of £1,145,000?

    Or 10% of (£1,000,000 + £45,000) for a total of £1,149,500?

Did Sevco really just trumpet a massive potential saving of £500?

I suppose it is cost cutting, so some credit (pardon the pun) is obviously due.

  5. KK:

What criteria do you apply to Jeanette Findlay to raise her up to an elevated level above other Celtic Supporters.

Has she for a decade taken a Friday afternoon off to catch the flight up to Glasgow to see the Celtic every second weekend; and lose the afternoons pay. Did she pay for two season tickets for the best part of ten years and in that ten years only take her seat on two occasions. Did she also in those ten years buy any season tickets for kids who loved the ‘tic but never could go? Did she ever buy batteries and the half bottle of vodka for the Celtic Supporter who lost his family to a terrorist bomb.

I’ve no doubt she is a good Celtic Supporter, but please, when next I turn up at the turnstiles, is there going to be some uber-uber measuring machine going to judge me on my charitable contributions and my contributions as a percentage of my net wage as a Celtic Supporter?

Kilbowie Kelt, I stood up for Jeanette Findlay, you just had to uber your support of just a one supporter without even knowing the sacrifices most Celtic supporters make to support their team without humouring or courting the media.

  10. I would’ve thought the only way anybody would’ve known it for sure, would’ve been if they’d gone to one of those schools; not ours, thems.

    Kitalba,

You are attempting to force a confrontation where none exists.

Sorry, I’m not in the mood.

I have given you the opinion of one old, thick Celtic man. That will have to suffice.

I have been listening to JF for well over a decade & have ALWAYS been impressed by her selfless input.

She is the spirit of my club.

Barry now know who Brassman is. Can we adjust the heat.

  16. Kilbowie Kelt:

You went overboard with your post, if anybody is interested in reading back this is what I said about the bold Jeanette…

I think Jeanette cares about our club just as much as you or I, or anybody else.

    Yep! that’s what I said.

  17. Geordie Munro on

    Right….That’s all my popcorn finished.

    Onto football.

Complete change this weekend or strong lineup (same as Wednesday) and let the guys take the plaudits.

  18. Geordie Munro on

    Kit,

For you to say someone went overboard with a post is the most hard neckit thing I’ve ever read on here.

    OK, Kit. You win.

Exactly what did I say that was ‘overboard’ ?

    Kit

I was referring to both of his posts on the matter. As KK was the person who initiated the point I felt that I would take the opportunity to commend him on it.

Why you would wish to draw comparisons with your own post, I have no idea.

  22. KK

    Kitalba,

I deliberately chose the words FAR MORE.

I am happy to repeat them.

I get angry when I hear the motives of somebody like Jeanette, who has selflessly given so much to our club, being questioned & denigrated.

  23. kikinthenakas on

Talking to an accountant yesterday….reckons they may have enough to pay the wages this month but not next and some bills are outstanding….Groundhog Day next month when it seems they go back to Laxey Partners for more money. He also told me they are hanging on for the cup final which would see them over the line til season book renewal.

Happy days for Tim’s everywhere…..3 in a row and party tomorrow at Paradise followed by Kano Foundation dinner….brill…

You wanted me to frame the question more acceptably to you.

Rather than guess your mind on that issue, I invited you to post your own question that would allow you to answer the point.

And, I’m really not of a mind to chase this metaphysical point any further beyond there.

    Speak your mind!

  25. Hamiltontim:

I have no idea what you are talking about. I stood up for JF to be put down for standing up for JF to have you praise a post by KK for putting me down for standing up for JF whilst he is standing up for JF and then you come on and ask me what I am on about.

  26. A gallant attempt to paint a realistic picture Paul, but already too late.

  27. Kilbowie Kelt will vote YES on

    Sorry, Kit.

That statement IS a reflection of my thoughts & contains not one word which is ‘overboard’ in any way.
