Spinning for trouble by Sky

1044

I try to avoid those who really should be avoided but I caught the report of Peter Lawwell’s Sky TV interview on their website yesterday.  The “No summer sales” headline was misleading in itself as our chief exec actually said “there is no real necessity to sell players now”.

We are a solvent and well-run football club, there is no real, or imagined, necessity to sell, but there is an enormous leap between this status and “no summer sales”.  All clubs, not just Celtic, sell when an offer exceeds their valuation for a player and they believe the money could be more productively redeployed elsewhere.  There is no necessity for Manchester City to sell players, not until the oil runs out in the Middle East, anyway, but they may still sell.

Best part of the article was from Charlie Nicholas, “I’m a bitter idiot. Listen, I’ll prove it…..”

I’ve translated that quote from the vernacular.

Loved newco Rangers accounts.  £3.5m in the bank on 31 December, £1.5m loan since, so they have £5m to operate until the season ticket money comes in, which will just be enough, but cash burn is running at over £1m per month; close to £15m a year.

£30m-£50m is not enough.

I have NEVER, now or in the past, ‘put you down’.

We are going round in ever decreasing circles for NO reason.

Are you thinking of the Spanish Basque country or the French Basque country?

I met a man in St Jean de Luz once who told me that he was a Basque in birth and spirit and French purely for tax reasons!

St Sebastian is a great city — very Spanish the last time I was there with virtually no sign of the British tourist types.

Never been further along to Bilbao and on into Galicia but have been up into the mountains around Pamplona etc.

The French side is fantastic — great coast between Biarritz and Hendaye with great beaches. If you are in the area and fancy a drive down the spine of the Pyrenees on the French side via Pau and Bayonne I can recommend it as it is absolutely sensational.

Hitchiked down there in my youth with a very funny story about a night spent in a bus stop but will save that for another day.

  6. My friends in Celtic,

If I may put my tuppence into the on-going discussion over left and right.

Maybe I have a very simplistic attitude; however I regard both far left and far right like a clock. They both meet at 12.00 hrs. There is nothing between them as far as the ordinary man in the street is concerned.

The excesses of fascism / communism as history has demonstrated both reject the democratic process and their ideology rejects fundamental human rights.

The ethos of Celtic seem to reject both.

I’m quite miffed at some of the posts on here today.

Loadsa arguing about who said what and when and if it really was said in the first place.

Usually I’m in at the start of these things, but I missed out today-I blame SWINDONBHOY.

I’d be grateful in future, folks,if you could tip me off when these things start, but I’ll make a late point.

Jeanette Findlay seems to be taken to task solely on a perceived admiration of an historical figure.

So what? I admire-greatly- Robert Burns, and his views roughly coincided with said historical figure.

I largely defend right-wing opinions on here as being worthy of comment, and worthy of belief. Though not my own.

I find it therefore utterly hypocritical for someone to rubbish JF based on her political opinions when, with the exception of the occasional total bampot, everyone else’s opinion is tolerated and discussed.

IMO,her beliefs are her own,as are mine and yours. They should not be used as a yardstick to judge her credentials as a Celtic supporter.

  23. BRTH

Your comment ‘Are you thinking of the Spanish Basque country or the French Basque country?’ This reminded me of an occasion at a cousin’s wedding in Cork when I asked if one of the guests was a French Basque or a Spanish Basque. I was told in no uncertain terms that the gentleman in question was Basque and under no circumstances was I to refer to him as French.

Again I once met a priest in Lourdes who informed me that ‘sadly I have a French passport, but I am Basque’. The Basques are a very proud and “independent” people and it is why the Spanish politicians are so afraid of Scotland going Independent.

However I agree totally with the rest of your comments about the Basque country. Really worth a visit.

Just caught up with PL’s SKY interview. I’m on the verge of binning them after that. They are more pro Sevco than the DR and thats saying something. Paterson is clearly a Jim White puppy as is Tanner. His questions were scripted for him and I counted at least 6 that were loaded in order to gain a headline, be it ‘no rangers in the league’, ‘poor champions league’, ‘Lenny going south’, ‘poor attendances at CP’. Total negativity from start to finish. Lawwell handled the boy with ease with though.

Meantime a thousand questions relating to the scandal of the century remain unanswered over at the KKK arena.

So in a nutshell, according to the Scottish MSM, we just need to play the hundead 4 times a season, no other teams involved, and the winner takes all and is granted entry into the CL.

When they were alive they couldn’t compete fairly with their 500,000,000 supporters worldwide and their squillions of pounds they generated. They needed taxpayers’ money to compete as well as ‘friendly’ officials and the wee knucklecrush handshake. Only in Scotland can the fact be ignored that a company was allowed unlimited cash facilities from a bank and that that money disappeared.

Their zombie offspring are still carrying out the same modus operandi of trying to win competitions by outspending everybody else with cash they do not have and when the well runs dry they’ll suffer the same fate.

We may or may not do 10 IAR but I don’t think it will be any type of hun life form that will be the reason for it not happening.

  33. An Obituary printed in the London Times. Absolutely Brilliant

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

    – Knowing when to come in out of the rain;

    – Why the early bird gets the worm;

    – Life isn’t always fair;

    – And maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live, as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust,

    – by his wife, Discretion,

    – by his daughter, Responsibility,

    – and by his son, Reason.

    His 5 stepbrothers survive him.

    – I Know My Rights

    – I Want It Now

    – Someone Else Is To Blame

    – I’m A Victim

    – Pay me for Doing Nothing

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
