Spinning for trouble by Sky

1044

I try to avoid those who really should be avoided but I caught the report of Peter Lawwell’s Sky TV interview on their website yesterday.  The “No summer sales” headline was misleading in itself as our chief exec actually said “there is no real necessity to sell players now”.

We are a solvent and well-run football club, there is no real, or imagined, necessity to sell, but there is an enormous leap between this status and “no summer sales”.  All clubs, not just Celtic, sell when an offer exceeds their valuation for a player and they believe the money could be more productively redeployed elsewhere.  There is no necessity for Manchester City to sell players, not until the oil runs out in the Middle East, anyway, but they may still sell.

Best part of the article was from Charlie Nicholas, “I’m a bitter idiot. Listen, I’ll prove it…..”

I’ve translated that quote from the vernacular.

Loved newco Rangers accounts.  £3.5m in the bank on 31 December, £1.5m loan since, so they have £5m to operate until the season ticket money comes in, which will just be enough, but cash burn is running at over £1m per month; close to £15m a year.

£30m-£50m is not enough.

THE Celtic players and fans may have missed the opportunity to party with each other at Firhill on Wednesday night, but this Saturday we´ll be ensuring the achievement of securing a third consecutive title is celebrated fully here at Paradise, as the Bhoys prepare for their first home fixture since being crowned SPFL Premiership Champions.

Ross County are the visitors to Celtic Park, and the players’ focus has now turned to that match as they aim to finish the season with a record breaking points total.

Pre-match we’ll have music on the pitch from resident entertainer, Liam McCrandles, and will also have half-time activity on the pitch as the winners of the Celtic Charity Cup and members of Scotland’s Homeless World Cup team go head-to-head in a goal-scoring challenge.

Then, on the final whistle, Neil Lennon will address the fans, who will be keen to show their appreciation for the Irishman who has become only the fourth manager in our history to claim three successive league titles. The champions will then do a lap of honour round the pitch to thanks the fans for their continued support this season.

It´s sure to be a great atmosphere at the home of the Champions so make sure you´re part of the party.

Spot on. Over a 15-year period the old club had around £250 million of non-revenue generated income:

    Murray International 2004 share under-writing (£50m), Dave King (£20m), NTL (?m), JJB (£18m), ENIC (£40m), EBT tax avoided (£48m?), DOS (£3m), liquidation creditors (£55m).

Throw in the money they got from CL campaigns which they wouldn’t have been in without access to the aforementioned sums and you’re looking at around £300 million. Over a 15 year period that’s around £20m “extra” a year and they still couldn’t win the league every year; and the years we won it were by much bigger margins.

Yet the MSM seem to think that a “Rangers” in the Premiership (WITHOUT access to any of this kind of money) would be competitive with us. Deluded.

    Paul67,

The £3.5m was available at 31 Dec…….once that ‘disappeared’ in Jan / Feb, they had to borrow £1.5m for March…..>>>> bye, bye, sevco….!!!!!!!!

From the £3.5 million, you had to deduct £1.7 million not available for use, leving £1.8 million. They have been saying that they have the costs down to £750,000 per month.Adding their cash and the loan, gave them £3.3 million.Total outlay for Jan to April, will be £3 million. So the grand sum of £300,000,will be available to them .

Ally will be told shortly what his budget will be for summer signings,we were told yesterday. The more tragic, the funnier it gets.

“John Beattie is as thick as mince.”

Yet another demeaning comment from you ,without foundation, and an attempt to portray yourself as some kind of intellectual. You are a sad individual.

    Neilbhoy:-

John Beattie, tho not a football man, was asked along to their first game after they went into administration with 3 other friends.John talked of this on the Monday after the game.John said he went along, his friends saying it would be a rallying of the support,a rallying point

The 4 left at Half time

in Johns own words it simply became ‘a sectarian hate fest’ ‘disgusting behaviour’as a result of this John felt the ire of the horde,I know of John Beattie and have friends who play cricket and did play rugby with him,a fair minded individual who was brave enough to speak out and for a week or so became the forerunner to Jim Spence!

Well said Neil for speaking out and hail hail to you

Ernie if the Beeb are the target hit them,it only reflects on yourself as self analysis when you type something that you would not say to a mans face.

  17. Glass Two Thirds Full,

While I wouldn’t dispute your figures, I have a very worrying feeling that the honest mistakes plus the monies they do have will be enough for the deid lot to keep up with us in the SPFL. As everyone has seen this season, the cheating has been seriously bad; just wait until they get back into the top division. It will be on a scale never witnessed before. Sure, the word liquidation has already been erased from their history, by everyone but ourselves.

I haven’t read back but I heard John Beattie speaking on Radio Scotland about his awful experience at Ibrox. He told it as he found it. Very few Scots have had the courage to nail their hatred.

“What do you see in my hand he said”?

“a mug of coffee” I replied

“Is it left handed or right handed ”

    “Left handed” said I

    “nae fighting please” :))))))

  23. Why should all the huns fans put their money into the club just to be told to stand outside again ?

Who do folk think they are – Celtic supporters ?

    Aye!

Celtic have just won 3 in a row Championships and, going by the mood on here today if I were the owner of Celtic FC / PLC, I’d tell you all to go away and raffle yourselves.

    What do you want ?

If CQN is a reflection of the Celtic support at large then, it’s game over.

What a shower of – vindictive – unappreciative – spoiled – cliquey children.

The Celtic that I knew and grew up with – died when Fergus made it ‘plastic’ when he chased away all the ‘rebels’ who sacked the board and commenced his own period of tyrannical bullying which destroyed Tommy Burns(RIP) both as a person and, as a football manager.

Fergus’s frugal practises are still alive and well within Celtic Park to this day and, the fact that a lady who could easily be described as the salt of Ceticness – Jeanette Findlay is, like the rest of the ‘real’ Celtic supporters – on the outside looking in – tells me that the, ‘plastic’ Celtic FC or, PLC will be doing all that they can behind the scenes to get the huns back cos – ‘thats’ their level.

From the days of, Fergus trying to ban the tricolour at Celtic Park from being waved by fans – to days of fans being grassed-up to plod yeah, the Celtic FC that I knew are well gone.

But hey, don’t worry…the old hostilities will be resumed in the near future.

Know whose fault that is ? Yours!

Keep handing over yer hard earned dosh to a collection of chocolate fireguards who will have you jailed as soon as Salmond calls a summit !
