Spirit of 67 reached out and touched us

431

As the excitement of Saturday begins to fade perspective begins to dawn. If Hollywood scripted homage to Lisbon, this was it. The stage was set 50 years and two days after the event for a truly unique, inVIncible, treble.

In ’67, Celtic came from behind. In 2017, they did the same. In ’67, Inter tired as a relentless Celtic pressed for the winner, just as Aberdeen did on Saturday. You and me have left Hampden after many cup wins, but I don’t remember as elated a crowd as Saturday’s. It was as though the Spirit of ’67 reached out and touched us.

Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic will compete with each other, and with new faces, for the precious central midfield roles next season, but both delivered big time on Saturday. It you watch Stuart’s goal, it had a touch of the Tommy Gemmell’s about it, with Shay Logan turning side-on, just as the nearest Inter defender to Tommy did.

“Don’t let him get onto his left”, is surely what every defender says when facing Tom Rogic. In particular, every Aberdeen defender. The big Aussie is so potent with his left foot. But we all need a second option in life, and Tom’s is the confidence and ability to take a chance on his right.

Stuart and Tom will both improve next season. Think about that.

What i meant is….How big is the gap between the current team and the CL Group stages.

You can’t get humped 7-0 by barca without humpin the dross

We humped the dross this season….will that be enough to get to group stages?

So it’s 3pm on Monday afternoon and wee Paddy is still in Glasgow. Not exactly on the first train out of dodge. Half the players will be on the beach by now.

I think we will have to add a few players to have a chance of qualifying.

No point having CL money, if you dont use it to improve the team

    TGM,

This is Celtic, imagine what logic would have done to Lenny’s team if true to form.

Nothing less than 100% win rate next season invincibles in every competition or I’m not going back till the next time I go back, there, and I stand by that.

  7. Richest Game in Football being played today by the giants Reading and Huddersfield.

Worth a mind boggling £200 million.

At least one of the teams wears the hoops.

I think we should qualify with what we have but I want nae demand further investment in the team.

Cheeky CL win next season will do me…..3-0 win against Juventus in Final.

Just need Johnny Hayes to get us to the next level:)

Big Pierre said we can do it.

Exactly. Exactly that. That’s why being humped by Barca is irrelevant. The point was getting money to invest in repeat participation!

I just want to add my thanks to all those who made Lisbon 17 a Celtic trip to remember. Special mentions, to BRTH for getting this up and running, the guys who supported the golf day but also to everyone who made my boy feel at ease over the period of the trip. Far too many to mention but you all know who you are.

For me it was great to meet so many I’d not met previously and for Mr Ronaldo to buy me a drink, he’s gone right up in my estimation.

Very good news to hear Lionsroar is in good spirit. He saw us all off at the hotel yesterday and was talking of going down to the square to watch the cup final on the big screens they were erecting.

All in all a fantastic wee trip that I wouldn’t have missed for the world.

    HH Celtic brothers and sisters.

PR signed for £8M with add ons for playing beyond city in the CL and buy back clause.

Just made that up there the no, worthy of publication in a quality rag tomorrow.

I think Hayes is a decent player…. but he scores 1 out of every 7 games or so …. plus he is 30 in a month or so, so he is no spring chicken …and wingers, who generally rely on speed, don’t usually get faster after 30 ….

    cant see it.

    Invincibles eh :)

    Pure love it mhan, quality

And three players have done it twice

  21. thetimreaper on

I think it’s highly unlikely Jonny Hayes will be a Celtic player next season. It’s probably paper talk and pure speculation. I cannot imagine a situation where we would make an approach for their best player the day after the cup final. Bearing in mind that Celtic are very coy with transfer news. Hayes agent may be looking to get him a move elsewhere and could be using the media to promote his player. I suspect Hayes will leave Aberdeen but not for Celtic.

  22. Rock Tree Bhoy on

Of course he meant it, this has probably already been covered but if as he says it was an ‘accident’ then why didn’t he go and see how KT was after the ‘accident’? Because he meant it thats why, and knew exactly the damage he’d done. In which case best to get away and stay well away from the incident, which was exactly what he done, a complete ragbag, if it was an accident then like any other normal human being he would have apologised to KT as soon it happened or as soon after as he could . Has that happened yet I don’t wonder.

  23. The Hayes story is a red herring – Ryan Christie, like Stuart Armstrong, will be given his chance – it’s then up to him.

There are at least three youngsters who will push for a starting place.

Patrick Roberts will return to Man City.

There will be an unexpected big name signing.

Brendan will in effect run two teams next season – No 2 team will play against bottom six standard teams – eighteen games giving good experience – No 1 team plays twenty league games – later rounds of SC/LC, and of course CL.

The above is my best guess after such a wonderful fulfilling season, Hail Hail!

  24. I predict in the next 5 years a EPL2. Only one Scottish team will be in it via a play off situation like todays game. That Team will be us. Bye Bye Scottish football.

  25. Let’s say Armstrong was still with United. Do you think BR would be interested in signing him por cierto?

  27. In my opinion football is all about enjoyment and happiness.

This week Celtic made a lot of people happy, very happy.

So lets celebrate. Why not. And if some think we are behaving triumphantly. Then who cares. After all we have had a few triumphs to celebrate.

    Hail, Hail.

Ive been wondering myself about Stuart Armstrong’s new found superstar status

Did not have a clue under Delia….Now….all of a sudden…he is magic.

    Im not convinced.

Lets see if he can do it two seasons in a row.

  29. Would Wayne Rooney be a player Celtic should go for now he is leaving Man Utd?

  30. The Green Man

Good point. Yes him and others will have to produce again next season por cierto.
