As the excitement of Saturday begins to fade perspective begins to dawn. If Hollywood scripted homage to Lisbon, this was it. The stage was set 50 years and two days after the event for a truly unique, inVIncible, treble.
In ’67, Celtic came from behind. In 2017, they did the same. In ’67, Inter tired as a relentless Celtic pressed for the winner, just as Aberdeen did on Saturday. You and me have left Hampden after many cup wins, but I don’t remember as elated a crowd as Saturday’s. It was as though the Spirit of ’67 reached out and touched us.
Stuart Armstrong and Tom Rogic will compete with each other, and with new faces, for the precious central midfield roles next season, but both delivered big time on Saturday. It you watch Stuart’s goal, it had a touch of the Tommy Gemmell’s about it, with Shay Logan turning side-on, just as the nearest Inter defender to Tommy did.
“Don’t let him get onto his left”, is surely what every defender says when facing Tom Rogic. In particular, every Aberdeen defender. The big Aussie is so potent with his left foot. But we all need a second option in life, and Tom’s is the confidence and ability to take a chance on his right.
Stuart and Tom will both improve next season. Think about that.

TIM MALONE WILL TELL
Just checked out the ole domestic stats.
Looking solely at league games we scored most against St Johnstone (14), with hearts and The Rangers* joint second with 13 conceded.
But including the 2 cup competitions then you’re right – 16 against The Rangers*, 15 against Inverness.
Our toughest opponents in the league? Dundee, we managed only 5 goals in the 3 games we played.
So you know what’s coming next – a list!!
GOALS SCORED AGAINST TEAMS WE PLAYED 6 TIMES
The Rangers* – 16
Aberdeen – 14
GOALS SCORED AGAINST TEAMS WE PLAYED 4 TIMES
Inverness – 15
St Johnstone – 14
Hearts – 13
Motherwell – 13
Partick Thistle – 11
GOALS SCORED AGAINST TEAMS WE PLAYED 3 TIMES
Kilmarnock – 10
Ross County – 8
Hamilton – 6
Dundee – 5
And we also managed to put 4 past St Mirren, 3 past Albion Rovers and 2 past Alloa.
Phew….
JOBO BALDIE
That’s rubbish. The BBC summary of the season video told me that Celtic’s goal difference was actually -4.
I don’t know where you got those stats but they clearly can’t be right…

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. May he rest in Peace.
Enjoyed our very special day together at Hampden. The timing of the goal was perfect to know what they had achieved and we were there. The festivities continued long into the night, meeting true friends.
I spoke to some Aberdeen fans earlier in the morning of the game ( looking for tickets) and I said that Johnny Hayes was the danger to Celtic winning. They reckoned McClean , but said they were up against it, and hoped that Brown would have picked up 2 yellows in first 20 mins. I said that could happen, as the ref was a Rangers ticket holder, then said, he hates Aberdeen more than Celtic.
I believe Hayes would not be a bad signing.
Arrived safe and sound back in IRELAND still smiling.
BRTH well done on Lisbon. your dad would have been a very proud man. I would love to have been there, loving the stories, seen some pics of the mass, brilliant and some videos- special.

Seems the Huns dont have a shirt sponsor for next season.A pure 32 Riddy. On the brighter side, seems some factory in Switzerland that makes Serviettes have offered Senderos a few shifts. From one company that could fold,to one that actually does.
James Forrest blogging that they are set to sign a Portugese striker.Well he is Portugese,at least.Plays for Benfica reserves, and has scored once in 30 games for them.On loan, into the bargain.
DELANEYS DUNKY I didnt get the chance to say thank you for your assistance with my daughter J on Thursday, it cured her my friend

JOBO – I knew I could rely on you to sort out the definitive stats :-)
Maybe Pedro should be tapping up Dundee’s back four?

Ronaldo thinks that by getting a round in for some of the Lisbon bhoys he can win Brendan over.
Nice try, ya big metrosexual, but Scotty Sinclair’s wearing that jersey, and he’s magical…
TGM
We could do worse than sign a Maryhill enforcer like Bertie Auld. He would have cemented shitebag Stockley on Saturday.
WITS
As much as id love to see Paddy back, i dont think it will happen.
Too much money down south.
Hope its not Johnny Hayes though.

Bertie would still smash that big eejit:)

Cathach,
Good to hear you enjoyed the time after the match. Wonderful being there.
As Hugh said to me, after he had booked his holiday, “a major blunder” on his part. That should bring a wee smile to your face, I’m sure.
I tried to phone you afterwards but was told that I had used my allowance for the month.
Would have been wonderful being in Lisbon too,by the sounds of it.
Oh, I passed the Mass Card to my Dad. He well remembered you and that you were in Ireland too. He wanted me to thank you.

Johnny Hayes wouldn’t be top of my wish list. It’s probably just newspaper talk . but there is the possibility that Hayes might improve as a player under brendan. And he would be playing with better players so I wouldn’t be totally against it
After reading the first few posts on page one it’s maybe time for some self reflection .
Maybe my back being painful is due to my own stupidity . 52 years old is no age to be jumping about on seats in an explosion of joy with every person within touching radius .
Every person who decided it appropriate to cuddle or be cuddled , by any other Tim for the rest of that day and the next is over emotional . Psychiatric help is recommended for anyone with the audacity to shed a tear .
The message seems to be that a first treble in 16 years is by the bye ! Undefeated ? WTF ?
Did the early nineties not happen ? Rugby park ? Fir Park ? EBT’S ? The SFA are obviously a trust worthy organisation . Our fore fathers and ancestors came into an open tolerant country . Wearing Green or the hoops in certain places or days won’t result in personal safety being compromised or worse. Memo to myself .
Mild applause only for creating history . Jeez oh .
WITS
I think maybe….that Brendan will unveil another top player…same idea as Scott Sinclair.
Somebody really good….but been unlucky etc.
Players will look at how things worked out for SS

More lies from you. Do you think your weebawbabbity china fools anyone?
The Scotsman 24/3/08
Ron McGregor, Gretna chairman paid tribute to the majority of Celtic fans attending the game and their backing of the cash-strapped club. “There were one or two waving bank notes at our players but overall they were very supportive of our cause.”
Good God,two days after we do the lot, unbeaten, some are on denigrating the feat.
Some answering these people with a modicum of tact, where a straight GTF would be more apt.
Never heard Celtic fans like some of the ones on here.

Good read which shows not all players are money munchers…
“Football is important to me, and to be able to play for Napoli for 10 years has been one of the greatest honors of my life. But the reason I have stayed so long is about more than football. In Naples, I am part of community — a family — that holds a very special place in my heart. I need to have more than just a paycheck and trophies. I need to feel something in my soul.”

The truth is we may never have another season as good as this.
Pity you didn’t make Lisbon
It was brilliant
Will the denegrator and the alligator please stand up
I SEE GERRY IS LEAVING SSB EMDAE KNOW WHERE HES GOING???
There are strong rumours Gerry McCulloch will replace Summer Harl at Celtic TV.
WITS. I’ve seen the evidence on FB from Lisbon ,it looked brilliant . All the ingredients required were there . Special occasion , nice weather , some cracking company and a few refreshments . Hard to beat , shame I missed it but still loved every minute of Saturday .
Life’s too short to miss celebrating the good days and Saturday was better than good .
Celtic means different things to different folk . I’m more than content with what it means to myself and others I hold dear .
Europe is for another day . HH

Likewise DD. Heard from some bhoys you were feeling a bit rough but got there anyway. Can’t keep a bad bhoy doon ;))
Evening, back to the real world tomorrow?
Afraid so, the lhad is safely back in London , he has one more Lisbon event to attend in The Grosvenor on Wednesday night: he had bought me a ticket as a present but I am gutted that work has got in the way and I have to be in Manchester on Wednesday night. Really hacked off but he has resold my ticket to another lucky Bhoy.
We will never forget the Lions, an inspiration yes; a burden, never. I agree with Jobo, sing the 67 song , loud and proud.

So success next season for Ernie Lynch and others will be winning the CL or the Europa cup and nothing in Scotland? Even if Sevco win the treble here?
Paxo on next, might get the politicos off for a while…

I’m in until 10pm. This freeview tv with no recording facility and my fondness for Lucy Liu in Elementary draws the line then.
I ignore a lot of the chum thrown overboard on this blog but my brother and I traveled through to that game just to swing some cash Gretna’s way, to help them reach season’s end. The authorities were no help to Gretna at all and didn’t encourage Celtic fans to be at it.
That he’d use that game, not thinking to be challenged, sums up Kevjungle to me. Suit yourself.
