SPL cannot hold secret meetings with Rangers bidders

806

All three outfits looking to take control of Rangers want to meet the SPL before formalising their bids.  It would be inappropriate for any bidder to discuss the terms under which a new company could enter the SPL with the League’s executive.  It is not their place to negotiate with the League, or to establish the terms under which they would be prepared to spend money on Rangers.

Let’s be clear about what cannot be achieved by meeting the League:

The SPL cannot give them any indication as to whether the resolutions will be passed

They cannot give them any indication if other resolutions will be proposed and passed

They cannot give them any indication on the probability of a new company being given access to the SPL

SPL executives have no influence on these matters.  From an information discovery position, these meetings are utterly pointless, there is no need for them and no insight can be gained from them.

The SPL executive cannot consider representations from third parties who are hoping to cut a deal on buying a club.  If any bidder were to discuss their own bid or the consequences of any sanction the meeting becomes wholly inappropriate.

Any meetings which do take place should be minuted, with minutes distributed to all SPL clubs, and should be open to any other SPL clubs who wish to attend.

No secret deals, no secret attempts to influence.

  1. Celtic Mac et all

Of course with the * we need to beat Hearts first preemptor *

Why could we not see Celtic in the Hoops, and Hibs in their first choice strip, – why was this o.k. in 1972 whereas we’ll most likely see Celtic in the generally more unpopular yellow and black outfit.

  2. ALL HAMPDEN WAS COVERED IN BANNERS OF GREEN!!!!

No Green and White Final………….. Just in case eh!

    Where will it all end?????????

    Stupid beyond banal……….

Would ask that a CQNr please confirm or otherwise re the statement of no green and white strips, should it be a Celtic v Hibs final because this (directive) has really got even me; The Tired Old Cynic, despairing of how far down the road will these people go to deny us a day in the sun………..

Asking such as I am a few miles away and don’t know the veracity of the ‘press release’……..

Oh and BTW, I know we are not there yet wrt the final but hope springs eternal, and if we do get there……..

Ah ffs how much more crap is coming our way????????? Jeez!

    Right off to bed………

Good Night and God Bless all CQNrs………

Saying that the SPL should not hold secret meetings with Rangers prospective buyers is one thing. Preventing it doing so is quite another.

Watching Liverpool isn’t much fun. Since Blackburn KD has been a fairly pragmatic manager.

At Liverpool he’s wasted a fortune on players and the playing style is very much old school.

I’ll don my tin hat and point out that I have no time for KD after his dalliance with Murray in the 90s. He had to know how much that would be used to hurt Celtic at a time when they were in full bombast mode.

I look at the KD the Celtic and Liverpool player and think, God we were lucky to have him.

I look at him now and think thank God we don’t have him.

  8. If (sorry, when) we get to the final I must remember to behave myself. At the last all green final I had a ticket at the Hibs end and just before half time I went for my normal bovril and pie. While watching it in the concourse Jackie scored, I jumped up and cheered and then was immediately ejected from the stadium! Must get my ticket with our own fans this time

“Through no fault of its’ own”? If I understand the Sky TV deal on offer, it is an attempt to dictate which clubs participate in the SPL. That offer no doubt influenced the attempt by Neil Doncaster (or the SPL board if you like) to change the rules of the SPL with the specific intention of allowing Rangers (in some bogus form or other) to continue in what is after all Scotland’s top flight. I am not convinced that the Sky money on offer could not be replicated in another form, and indeed your own analysis a few weeks back would tend to support that view. Whether Celtic are prepared to look at alternatives is another thing.

  10. Whilst a policy of keeping your powder dry can be commendable, surely with season book time looming, it is time for Celtic to voice some opinion on all that is going on.

The current Celtic and Hibernian strips look remarkably similar to those shown in the photograph you posted yesterday, and the contrast is clear for all to see. Could be a commercial angle, or, if we get there, could be a deliberate attempt by the SFA to avoid promoting the idea that Glasgow is…er… Green and White!

Noticed the tile – title “error” in Tommy Linnens obituary in the Coatbridge & Airdie Advertiser and had the same thoughts as yourselve. Some nasty person try to take the shine off it.

It is actually called Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser but no way is Airdrie ahead of The Brig!!!

Coatbridge is famous for coal and steel! Airdrie is famous for stealin coal!! lol

  13. Matthews played well in the Killie game without having too much influence, his one bright spot being the fortuitous burst into the danger area and the low cross knocked out with Sammi ready to knock it in.

The question of who is the better RB is not the right question. Lennon should be asking himself who has played better when we’ve gone 3 in midfield. The answer, without a doubt, is Cha.

Dunfermline at home 2-0 was where Lenny tried out the 4-3-1-2 (or lopsided 4-4-2, whatever you want to call it) with Brown, Ki and Ledley in midfield and Commons AM. Cha played RB then and did very well, better than Matthews against Killie (all my opinion, but I have nothing against Matthews, who I would say overall is the better RB). Before that, Cha played RB in the Kilmarnock 2-1 game, St Johnstone 2-0, and Motherwell 2-1 (4-2-3-1, but a similar attacking RB role for Cha).

In each game he was excellent, in some cases outstanding. The difference from his poor performances when Celtic play a straight 4-4-2 is plain to see. Matthews, in contrast, plays better when he has someone right in front of him (Brown or Forrest).

Hmmm…..commerce, has a lot to answer for.

Mind you we fairly laid the yellow n black jinx (if there was one) at Rugby Park, which was right up there with a Celtic all time high.

Re PFayr, actually I made that mistake when I first posted on here! Took the nom de plume literally, know better now though! Not that I have anything against Procurator Fiscals from Ayr, I hope you understand!

Celtic Mac. Neither do I, but I used to work in the CJ system in Ayr which is why I was particularly interested.

  17. On our kit – is there any rhyme or reason as to what we wear and when? Other than for commercial reasons, is there any game in the SPL where we have to wear an away kit because of an actual clash? If so, is that decision up to the ref?

Yes it did work down at the Rugby, but it didn’t when we turned up our pyjamas in the League Cup Final! I hope ulysses mcghee was joking earlier, but if there is one good reason why either Celtic or Hibs ever need to change their first team strips when they play each other, anywhere, I have yet to hear it. If, some masonic referee or other states that he has difficulty distinguishing between the two strips then he should be sacked. Of course what he really means is that he has difficulty refereeing a Cup Final without Rangers in it. I do not know for sure re the 2001 Cup Final, but I seem to remember that the SFA had something to do with it. If we do get there, time to insist that both teams wear green and white, and tell the SFA (and its referees) where to go. Was lucky enough to be there in 1972.
