SPL makes more concessions to Sevco

291

Channel 4’s Alex Thomson’s source at the SPL yesterday confirmed that the league will not proceed with their hearing into Rangers illegal registration of players until Sevco agrees to be bound by its findings.  This is curious as Item 12 (Sanctions) from the SFA’s ‘List of items required to accompany application for transfer of full membership’ from Rangers to Sevco, an application which Sevco have already made, obliged Sevco to agreed to be bound by these findings.

The relevant part of the transfer application reads:

“Confirmation that Sevco will accept such sanctions as are proposed by the Scottish FA in relation to current proceedings.

Confirmation re EBT sanction position at SPL level and subsequent appeal to Scottish FA.

Confirmation that Sevco will accept responsibility for any breach of the Articles etc by Oldco which has not so far come to light.”

If Sevco have not accepted the terms of the SFA membership application there seems little point putting Scottish Football League clubs through such dramas this week. An alternative explanation is that Sevco have completed their application in full but the SPL have no plausible excuse for delaying tier investigation into illegal registration of players, so have used an implausible excuse.

Neither explanation is tenable. Things are not going to plan for the national bodies.

  1. The top ten worst full backs in our history, is it?

Can I start off with my personal favourites. Step forward Joe Fillippi and Roy Kay from 77-78.

Willie Garner who signed form Aberdeen and scored 2 OG’s on his debut would obviously get in there….not 100% sure if he was a full back or central defender though.

  2. stevebhoy,

True. In employment law terms the players chose not to become Sevco employees and walked away. Sevco was never their employer and so has no claim on them.

But their registrations belonged to Rangers FC PLC (in administration). The questions now are whether these can be sold on to Sevco, or whether the players using TUPE is essentially the same as a Bosman. In which case no fee is due to anyone.

Inspired by your snakes and ladders analogy – might I suggest that one of you creative types designs a “pull out” S & L for the CQN magazine?

It would be a tremendous piss-take and collectors item in my humble opinion…

Excellent idea… I’ve got plenty of time on my hands right now… not presuming I’ve got any creativity but will try to put something together as a contribution at least.

Tully 57 -I think Willie Garner was a centre half.

Paul Telfer was an automatic first choice in his first season, Ghod knows why.

He seemed incapable of passing the ball to a bhoy wearing the same coloured jersey.

  6. Joe Filippis Haircut on

tully57 Fella Joe fillippi was one of the most underated players to play for Celtic he put in a power of work every game he played. It is a pity some of the current players are not as industrious.H.H.

I doubt any court would support football authorities in circumventing the letter or spirit of the law. The European Court would just throw such a verdict out.

  9. Presumably if Sevco are not a member of the SFA by Friday, then there can be no vote? This probably equates to no football at Ibrox next season. Full stop. An emphatic full stop.

  10. The major problem with anyone agreeing to this farcical offering is that it must exclude the possible punishment of expulsion from the league.

After all, we wouldn’t want all these efforts to be made only for the tribunal to kick them out again.

Given the fact that they were very nearly kicked out for CWs activities and if ever the tribunal is reconvened may indeed be the only option left, what punishment for 20 years worth of the same?

The SFA are asking people to trust them.

    NOT ON YOUR NELLY.

You are corrupt to the core. You have shown this over and over by your actions throughout this fiasco.

No. You should resign immediately and let people with integrity take over and try to clean up this mess which you have largely created.

It was the SFA whose primary job it was to ensure the clubs acted within the rules etc. Alex Thomson has already been informed by sources within the SFA that the SFA knew that RFC should never have been allowed to play out last season.

You ask us to take this deal on trust.

    NO WAY.

  12. mick1888,

No – Sevco can be voted into the SFL before a decision is taken by the SFA.

If the SFA was to reject the application at a later stage then their league membership would automatically end.

  15. VP :-) I was at the game but none the wiser…..

DBBIA – Think Mo Camara was worse than Paul Telfer from the WGS era.

Sorry Joe Fillippi’s Haircut – but my memory was that he was never ever a Celtic class player. I have him lumped in with Roy Kay and John Dowie as really poor signings from Jock’s last season with us after his car crash return. I think Frank Munro was another one – decent pedigree, international etc but by this time nowhere good enough for the Celts – and I’m sure he was made captain on his debut…..

  16. Fassreifen - you can't put a price on integrity on

If Friday’s decision goes Doncaster’s way I can foresee a class action from various clubs. This will go to the courts for sure, and at that point the Hampden mafia haven’t got a snowball’s.

I wish everyone would stop referring to the huns-newco-oldco-whatevero as RATS.

Rats are actually intelligent, reliable and hard working. They are also quite hygienic.

Why is it universally accepted they should be in the SFL (1 or 3) at all??

The cheats are being allowed to jump the queue.

  23. DBBIA – WGS sure liked his Championship right backs….Lee Naylor as well…honest, hard working but just not good enough.

Another point about Frank Munro. And this is seriously controversial.

I think he had the fattest arse in Celtic’s playing history.

Even fatter than Fat Pat McCluskey’s arse.

My take on this is exactly the bit highlighted in bold, except in the present tense – the players have opted not to transfer their contract over to Sevco and, IMO only, are in limbo until such time that RFC (IA) officially become RFC (IL).

It is an interesting one, for sure.

  25. Does any of this seem familiar to anyone?

I believe his brother was the best footballer from the 2 bhoys in the family, but never ventured futher than the school team.

The Herald today stated that “Spartans are ready to challenge Rangers newco for a place in the Third Division. The Edinburgh club believe they meet all the criteria for entry to the SFL, including three years of audited accounts which Rangers newco do not possess.”

    CAS anyone?
