SPL makes more concessions to Sevco

291

Channel 4’s Alex Thomson’s source at the SPL yesterday confirmed that the league will not proceed with their hearing into Rangers illegal registration of players until Sevco agrees to be bound by its findings.  This is curious as Item 12 (Sanctions) from the SFA’s ‘List of items required to accompany application for transfer of full membership’ from Rangers to Sevco, an application which Sevco have already made, obliged Sevco to agreed to be bound by these findings.

The relevant part of the transfer application reads:

“Confirmation that Sevco will accept such sanctions as are proposed by the Scottish FA in relation to current proceedings.

Confirmation re EBT sanction position at SPL level and subsequent appeal to Scottish FA.

Confirmation that Sevco will accept responsibility for any breach of the Articles etc by Oldco which has not so far come to light.”

If Sevco have not accepted the terms of the SFA membership application there seems little point putting Scottish Football League clubs through such dramas this week. An alternative explanation is that Sevco have completed their application in full but the SPL have no plausible excuse for delaying tier investigation into illegal registration of players, so have used an implausible excuse.

Neither explanation is tenable. Things are not going to plan for the national bodies.

  1. A wee break from the current (!) posts.

These are the players I feel MUST play in Celtic`s strongest eleven ( but I accept different games require different strengths).

    Forster

    Matthews Mulgrew Izaguirre

    Brown Kayal Wanyama Ledley Commons

    Hooper Samaras

Actually, what I meant to do there was post what I thought would be a list of about eight certainties but ended up with only one blank ( other defender in back four although , personally, I am a fan of Rogne) so decided on three at the back to accommodate those midfielders…….and now I realise I have left out James Forrest whom I would definitely want in my team!! So much easier being a Newco team selector.Other views on our best team?

  2. Berwick voting D1- their director Brian Porteous has 516 “Rangers” shares. Pure coincidence I’m sure.

  5. From an official report on tax avoidance at the Olympics2012 :

………..practice of tax avoidance is now firmly embedded within all major global sporting events:

“Some of the tax laws have already been extended to cover the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and this process of relaxing tax rules looks set to continue with the costs borne, as ever by ordinary taxpayers.”

  6. Craig Burley – when played for us he was visible, he never hid and had tha habit of scoring in important games, the guy was a winner and we missed him badly when he was out injured under Dr Jo, he was also possibly the only player to speak up about the shambles that was brewing under the Barnes/Dalglish dream ticket and for that he was sold to Derby, picked upa serious achilles injury and was never really the same again (Derby’s medical staff were accussed of mis-treating the injury).

The fact that he’s now spouting off in the media, to me, is neither here nor there, in fact I had more of a problem with some of the garbage Mcgarvey used to come out with.

Di Canio was the exact opposite, he wouldn never say a word against us but as a player when we were up against it on the pitch he either wasn’t there or did something incredibly stupid and got sent off. He won nothing with Celtic but was incrediblt to watch if we were going to beat Killie 6-0. Less good against our now deceased city rivals.

  7. Artur Boruc mentioned.

After his contract with Fiorentina expired he started training sessions with Legia in Warsaw. He is waiting for the offers, hoping for the club from the UK.

Got to disagree re Burley under Dr Jol…

Burleys injury that season more or less coinscided with the introduction of Lubo into the team and Celtic were flying for the next 3 or 4 months.

Burleys comeback was the night we beat Motherwell 7-1 at Fir Park. He came on for – you guessed it- Lubo who was injured and missed the remainder of the season apart from the last 2 games when the Dr was trting to get him fit for the Cup Final.

    On the Craig Burley debate.

Craig Burley was solid , he gathered the ball mid field and worked his way toward goal ( slowly) , did not often lose the ball in tackles and scored a good portion of goals. We were glas to have him at the time.

For some players it is hard to see what they do for a team when they play but you see the whole that they leave when they are not there.

The opposite can be said of Craig Burley.

In 1998-1999 season he sustained an injury (at Rugby Park in October –we lost 2:0) that kept him out for a long time ( Feb ?)

In his absence our midfield play became much more direct with Lubo Moravcik . We also saw the emergence of Henrik Larsson as an out and out striker.

The Golden Child scored 18 goals in his first season. 1997-98

He scored 38 in that season – I have always largely attributed that change in his strike rate (and his subsequent Deification ) to the absence of Craig Burley from our midfield.

By the time Burley was back in the team ,our tactics had changed, – but he hadn’t.

If the players refuse to accept the transfer of their contracts to Sevco …what interest does Sevco have in them

The players are not contracted to Sevco …..what’s their transfer got to do with them ?

    ===================

If I were Sevco I would argue I bought the players registrations, not the players who are free to move with or without TUPE. They have moved and fair enough their rights under TUPE have been recognised, but I would want money to release their registration for at the end of the day is that not what a transfer fee is paid for, the transfer of the registration that then enables a player to move?

This has been referred to FIFA and because football has an interest in keeping money in football I would not be surprised to see FIFA rule that a registration transfer fee has to be paid.

No that I’m bothered mind you, but if it was Celtic I would not want them to give in without a fight.

I liked Paul Telfer and thought he was a good player for Celtic.

Mo Camara was a bit more limited as a player IMO but had a good attitude and did his best for us.

I think both players suffered in the eyes of the supporters because they were Gordon Strachan’s first signings and seen as the personification of the downsizing the club undertook after the MON years.

Some of the criticism that was aimed at the likes of Kenny Miller, Lee Naylor, and Gary Caldwell was also way over the top.

Ultimately these guys all did their bit to give us three in a row, two consecutive last 16 appearances in the Champions League (what we once covetously talked of as “the next level”), and a whole lot of hun-skelping in between.

That’s what makes Paul Telfer and co. Celtic heroes in my eyes.

Hi guys, looking for a bit of info.,about a book, recommend in one of the Sunday supplements, can’t remember the title, maybe one of you could tell it.

The story line,is about Two companies vying for the same construction contracts in a major British city.

One of the companies decides that they are not winning enough of the contracts,so revert to underhand tactics, soon they have on their “payroll” two well place people, within the local committee ,with influence, but that is not enough, they need a person at the epicentre of decisions.

I know it’s not a lot to go on,but can anyone help.i would like to take it on holiday with me.HH

registration can only be held by a registered (with an FA) club, this includes copies of contracts detailing all payments for footballing activities.

Sevco are not registered, they can’t be, they have no players! :-)))

registration reverts to SFA, employment contract is frustrated (due to liquidation), Sevco have been misled about assets if they believe players were included.

Fair enough, but I would still make a case for Burley being a very good midfielder for us, he never hid, was pretty tidy with his passing and was a constant goal threat. His sale to Derby was, for me, the first mega red flag that Barnes had no idea what he was doing. Young managers make mistakes, but selling our of your core players at that stage of the season was insane.

I think his subsequent media career has impacted on the perception of his career with us, for some to mention him in the same sentence as Le Merde is unfair in the extreme.

The guy is just a blaw hard, don’t like what he has to say, ignore him or better yet just remember his reaction to passing the ball under Goram that afternoon in January 1998.

I’d been eagerly awaiting my 2012/13 away shirt (in svelte medium) in the classier “no sponsor” option and with my name and chosen number on the back.

After waiting for several weeks, I was delighted to take delivery yesterday and find that the shirt looks even better on me than it does on notorious chubster Ki.

Unfortunately, despite the squad number I asked for being clearly stated on the order paperwork, the genius who did the printing managed to get the numbers the wrong way around.

I spoke to a nice lady in customer services and she explained that, since new shirts won’t be in stock for at least two months, they wouldn’t send me the shirt I had actually paid for, but would merely refund me and suggest I order again in September.

Why are you making it so difficult to take my money, Celtic? (thumbsup)
