SPL start inquiry while SFA pussyfoot

671

The Scottish Premier League has acted with clarity, issuing a statement today that they have instructed an inquiry into the alleged non-disclosure of payments to the league by Rangers since the inception of the SPL on 1 July 1998.

The SPL statement refers to rules to “impose a prohibition on players receiving payments for playing football or participating in an activity connected with football except where such payments are made in accordance with a form of contract approved by the SPL and require that all such contracts are submitted to the SPL within 14 days of being entered into.”

They helpfully link to The Rules of the SPL, which is sure to be one of the most read regulation documents in the world this week.

Compare and contrast this action with the goings-on at the Scottish Football Association.

SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, told Scotland on Sunday the association president, Campbell Ogilvie, is “heavily conflicted” on the subject of the investigation into Rangers and as such would not be a party to conclusions, saying, “Campbell won’t play any part in any meeting, discussion or conclusion on any activities surrounding Rangers”.

It would, of course, be helpful for Mr Ogilvie to tell his SFA colleges exactly what went on when he was general secretary and director of Rangers.  His evidence should be an integral part of the investigation, unless his memory is less effective than fellow ex-Rangers director, Hugh Adam.

Regan spent some of last week dismissing demands for a comment on allegations that Rangers have improperly registered football players for over a decade by suggesting matters concerning the club were under investigation, headed by Lord Nimmo Smith, which is due to report this week.  However, it appears that Nimmo Smith’s secret terms of reference do not include the most important question surrounding the club.  On the subject of improper registration, Regan said, “The board will meet to discuss it within a week or maybe slightly longer. Very, very quickly the board will get together to consider the facts.”

Scotland on Sunday’s Tom English induced a variety of reactive quotes from Regan.  Asked if the SFA would hold an inquiry into Rangers contracts, he said, “That will depend on the board’s view of the facts and what information is there. The situation is changing daily and new information is emerging all the time. We’ve got our hands on certain pieces of information and we’re exploring it and we’re asking for further information. By the time the board meets we will have a fuller picture and if it’s the board’s opinion that they want a fuller investigation then that will be an option. If they feel they have enough facts to draw some conclusions then that will be their decision.”

So now we know that Lord Nimmo Smith’s report is likely to ignore the main issue surrounding Rangers.  Without SFA clarification, we can only guess it will address the Fit and Proper suitability of Craig Whyte to own a football club, surely a complete waste of resources.

We also know that the association might still decide against investigating the evidence of Hugh Adam, The Sun newspaper, and various other journalists, that second contracts exist.

The SFA cannot be dragged along behind the story like this.  Like the SPL, it should issue an early statement of intent to investigate the serious allegations made about Rangers during their president’s time on the club’s board.

Step up, Mr Regan.

If as hugh adam said and if he is correct , then if our club dont go after them then we the celtic support should . I am not worried that the administrators have not really cut any costs as yet. So far the headlines would suggest that they have reached agreement with Dunfermline and Dundee United, got rid of Ally Wallace or whatever he was called and that other chap with the wig. Couple of players have left. They have removed the pocket lint and old bits of hankie but circumambulated the big wedge hanging about the Ibrox pocket,

I’m not bothered by these actions as Rangers need to cut costs at some point. The strategy is to find a buyer. I don’t think the buyers have a clue what they will be buying if anything when there is another £75m to be added and potentially no SPL football. I am unsure if folk want to see further physical evidence of administration.

Frankly each passing havering moment adds to my thought that McCoist and his players will be at their lowest point in their lives. Theres nothing like money and the threat of it being taken away to reduce a man to a quivering selfish wreck. Add in agents and wives and you have a cocktail for disaster. Perhaps Duff and Duffer are hoping for mass murder to reduce the wage bill? This can only add to ‘Super Allys’ comfort eating.

If this was Celtic in this situation we would have the press reporting what every individual player was thinking minute by minute and how our manager had lost control. Imagine this was our club?

Imagine we had cheated and had been accused of deceiving Scottish Football over an indefinite period. Imagine we cheated provincial clubs out of outcome and trophies, denied their fans their once in a lifetime joy.

The SFA have known that HMRC have been investigating Rangers for suing ‘2 contracts’ for quite some considerable time. Officially it has been since Phil MacGiollbhain published in the, now defunct, News of The World. WHY has it taken until now to investigate this claim. High Court Judges, people in the upper echelons on the Legal sphere have sat and listened to evidence from people associated with this. WHY now? WHY not 2 or 3 years ago? Can we trust these people to make a decision in the knowledge that they will incriminate their pals?

This is no e-mail about the Pope.

Will the SFA or even the SPL be able to make a decision prior to the Big Tax Case. Would they have the bottle? Will they delay and procrastinate like the Duff boys?

Now for the so called Integrity of the press. Pah. When will they report the headline news? The press have no integrity whatsoever and are complicit in protecting the men who busted Scottish football and sponsored cheating for what looks like decades. Greedy insular men with no dignity or integrity who have disrespected the nation.

All they need to do is phone a few Rangers players and all we get is a pathetic justification for printing yet another anti Celtic story. It is absolutely unbelievable that they have been presented with this story and they refuse to pick up the threads. Refused since 2009. What they are doing is pretending it will go away.

The nutcases on this blog and others will ensure that this NEVER goes away.

    Any ideas

    1) Do the Administrators have the authoriy to order the destruction of documents\evidence durng ongoing investigations

    2) If permission from the court is required, why would a judge agree to such a request, during ongoing investigation by HMRC.

    3) Can HMRC sanction people for obstructing their investigations.

I’ve heard some people blaming HMRC for letting things go on so long before acting. I’m sure they were sitting fuming at Rangers and their EBTs. At the time they were perfectly legal after all. A few months ago the talk was what would the board do etc. etc.

I know now they want to distance themselfs for them, I never doubted they would do the right thing btw, I did like everyone else wavered from time to time, but I always knew in my heart they would do the right thing.

The board have and are playing a blinder on this, they speak when needs be, they are silent when the MSM want us to speak.

I’m afraid you may not have seen Rory’s former web-site – now wisely updated with his Twitter feed- which had the banner of the Northern Ireland unionist Ulster Flag (not the yellow one, which is the one used in Golf and covers the 9 counties of Ulster.) He is a soup-drinker of the highest order and on one occasion refused to accept the Irish tri-colour from a fan.

  27. From the Telegraph, another MSM lie put to bed:

“Doncaster also claimed yesterday that the extension of the SPL’s TV deal with Sky and ESPN was not dependent on being able to deliver four Old Firm games per season.” he goes on

“Doncaster, though, believes that the extended contract with their broadcast partners (which is due to last until 2017) will not be affected if Rangers are not in the top flight.

“The current contract, which comes to an end this season, says Rangers and Celtic must play each other four times a season,” he said. “That’s in line with most of our large contracts – our title sponsors are the same. That’s no different from any other league with its biggest clubs.

“What will be in the next contract from the summer to be seen. You do a deal originally in a short-form agreement and then the long-form agreement follows that later on.

“That’s in process at the moment. What will happen in the future? I never predict anything in football.”

  28. That very interesting, so it would appear that Ned Flannders on SSB has been spinning everyone a line saying it’s a certainty that the TV contract contained the 4 OF games clause. Someone please get into his ribs next time he’s on the radio that man and his snide attitude and comments when he knows the caller can’t reply needs taken down a peg or 6
