Spooked by the ghost of Compper

276

Clearly Brendan Rodgers bought Marvin Compper to the club in January because he felt he needed cover and experience in central defence, most probably for these Champions League qualification games.  He has now picked up another injury.  Despite plans clearly remaining unfulfilled, we are in a good position to travel to Trondheim this week, but despite confidence ahead of the Rosenborg game, the ghost of Compper spooks me.

Jozo Simunovic is fit, for now, although paying the price for an uncontrolled action.  Dedryck Boyata will return to the starting line-up soon, but with less than a year on his contract, I expect the big man’s agent will be busy marking cards elsewhere.  Kris Ajer and Jack Hendry have been holding fort, but the job Compper was recruited to do is not being done.

Two years ago we brought in Kolo Toure.  The big Ivorian was well past his prime and soon found the rigours of regular football too much, but he brought a calm to the team in the qualifiers, especially in a fraught night in Be’er Sheva.

I know coaches are reluctant to be pushed into making short term signings but this is one time it is advisable.

Which is why Middleton is now the new Christiano Ronaldo after a game against the mighty Wigan.

From the same mssm who claimed Beerman was the new Tierney and McCrorie was Beckenbauer’s reincarnation.

    Where is Beerman now?

And McCrorie was such a defensive dud he is now a defensive midfielder on par with Kante

    Are the Huns Turks?

The Hun hordes ruled by Attila, who invaded and conquered much of Europe in the 5th century, might have been Turkic and descendants of the Xiongnu. Some scholars regard the Huns as one of the earlier Turkic tribes, while others view them as Proto-Mongolian in origin.

I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Hector and you curse the SPFL. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know, that keeping Rangers alive, while tragic, probably saved teams in the SPFL. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves teams, and makes money for us. You don’t want the truth, because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on the SPFL Board. YOu need me on that Barod. . We use words like “honor”, “code”, “dignity”. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who watches football games under the blanket of the very corruption that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it! I would rather you just said “thank you”, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you put on a pair of brouges, and join the Board. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

I find sad that the blog is hijacked by so few, but persistent, multi posting, negative people, who appear to get little joy from “following “ Celtic.

They trot out the same cliched anti board presumptions with little or no regard to the facts.

Even our double treble winning manager’s responses to scoop seeking SMSM curveball questions are examined for any possible negative nuance.

I say I find it sad because I pity the life that is so lacking in joy, unable to glean a modicum of pleasure from our great club, that it does not augur well for other aspects of the malcontent’s life.

Maybe it is because they cannot see what joys supporting Celtic brings.

Maybe they do not attend matches so cannot witness the magnificence of,e.g. an Odsonne chipped goal, or the pleasure in the slight of Tom Rogic’s feet in the company of 60000 other delighted Celtic supporters.

Maybe they don’t understand the joy of the standing at the Gazebo surrounded by hundreds of like minded expectant Celtic supporters, joyfully anticipating the Celtic team in full flow in the impending match.

Maybe it is just unfortunate that for them, they can only see negativity, as that is how they perceive their being.

Supporting Celtic is a positive, joyful experience, especially in these magnificent times.

Being anti Celtic is a soulless, negative, wasteful existence.

HRVATSKI JIM on 30TH JULY 2018 5:12 PM

    I want a STATEMENT!!!!!

    ————

    Voici:

“THE [Sevco] and Sports Direct (SD) are pleased to announce that they have terminated all prior agreements between them and entered into a new commercial arrangement on terms substantially different from the terminated agreements. As part of the new arrangements, the [Sevco] Retail Limited (RRL) joint venture between TRFC and SD has ended and, going forward, TRFC will deal directly with SD.

The negotiations between the parties have been protracted and have not been smooth. In that regard, TRFC and SD thank PUMA for its assistance and patience during a period that has been difficult for them as official kit supplier to the Club.

TRFC has also expressed its thanks to SD for its willingness to restructure the arrangements between the parties. TRFC recognises that SD entered into legal agreements with a prior board at a time in the Club’s history when the future was very uncertain. SD’s willingness to restructure the relationship reflects confidence in the way the Club is now being managed.

For obvious reasons it is not the practice for the details of commercial arrangements to be made public. However, in view of the publicity surrounding the previous agreements and the resultant boycott by supporters of kit purchases we consider it appropriate to give supporters some insight into the new arrangements.

The new arrangements represent a fresh start for the [Sevco] Megastore, the relaunch of the Rangers Webstore and the sale of [Sevco] kit and products throughout SD’s stores.

The financial arrangements between the parties are transformed. TRFC will now receive by far the majority of net profits from the retail operations at the Megastore and Webstore together with an equal share of all net profits from sales through SD. TRFC will also obtain a priority dividend on the winding up of RRL.

The new deal will deliver real value for TRFC and SD. Supporters now have certainty that any money they spend on [Sevco] products will be hugely beneficial for the Club. SD will benefit from the increased sales and from the opportunity of demonstrating the part its retail skills can play in building and commercialising the [Sevco] brand which was always SD’s intention.

Both parties are delighted to achieve a successful resolution to the issues that have previously marred the relationship between them and bring an end to the protracted and costly litigation.

TRFC and SD hope that the new arrangements will be long standing but there is no longer a fixed commitment on that front. We will rely on our combined commercial performance and drive to cement the relationship going forward.

[Sevco] has traditionally been one of the best performing brands in British football and the Club believes the new arrangements can restore it to that position, providing funds to invest in the team and facilities at Ibrox and Auchenhowie.”

I don’t see the need at this point for Celtic to be chasing up Boyata’s agent.

All we need is for him to be fit and ready to play in the next round of CL qualifiers, should we progress.

Both the player and Celtic have until the end of the transfer window to decide the future.

Hopefully we make the group stage. If so, Dedryk has to decide if he wants another go at the top table or mid table football elsewhere.

If we don’t make the groups, then both Celtic and the player would probably be happy to part company and for the club, he will be easier to replace then.

    Eurochamps67,

Your sentiments are, in my view, spot on, but unfortunately don’t register with those who refuse to recognise them and drift off on tangents not present in your post.

I think that supporters of an older generation genuinely had the win. lose or draw mentality (I suppose we had to!)

Back in the day and I’m talking about the 50’s etc., the joy was going to Parkhead and standing alongside people who had shared life experiences.

It was a sense of community, unspoken ,but acknowledged.

It was what kept us going from week to week and was cherished.

As communities were destroyed, I suspect there is not the same feeling today.

It is difficult to explain, but, I think, you really had to have been there to understand it.

We were aware of board shortcomings then and discussed them privately. Never in public or within our foes earshot.

We protected the club we loved.

That Clyde1 report on Ashley wiping the courtroom floor with Sevco is a masterpiece of contemporary Scottish journalism.

After about 12 pars of mealy mouthed ‘oh don’t say anything bad about the Rangers cos they’ll batter us’ fawning, the intro is found buried 4 pars from the end:

“Well they managed to match the offer that JD offered. The money that’s not relevant to us anyway goes to them and not JD. It remains not relevant to us anyway….. we are still on the stronger foot now.”

    ————

“Sports Direct and Ashley are scum – however if (and I know its a big if) they are matching the JD deal, which was apparently very favourable to Rangers [How is it you know this, Sammy?] then the only real issue is Ashley getting his cut as opposed to JD. The main problem is trust – we as a support dont trust Ashley and nor should we. If we are dealing with him our legal approach to the contract had better be watertight” [Bound to be Sammy – so watertight it would cost you over £500,000 to fail to put a hole in it.]
