Benjamin Nygren”s arrival on a 5 year contract this early in the transfer window illustrates the concern Celtic have about their options on the wings.
Nicholas Kuhn is attracting attention in Germany and Daizen Maeda has shown no interest in taking up the new contract offer, despite talks being in their fourth month. It’s not difficult to imagine both players having other things in their minds come the last week of August, when you and I will only be thinking about the Champions League playoffs.
Benjamin being in early is not a solution for this issue; the player is new to Celtic and even successes like Daizen and Nicolas took time to find form. If the need for cover was not so great, I am sure we would still be considering winger options. Signing players early is not always an indication that we moved heaven and earth to land to the top target, sometimes it just means we are a bit anxious.

Hello
Cheers
Celtic win Glastonbury 🇮🇪
Good afternoon all from the Brazen Head. Time for a stroll into old Glasgow Town. Elderly Tims must get their exercise. 😁
One man’s illustration of concern is another man’s timely and considered contingency planning, shirley ?
Also, as for players being new to Celtic and the insistence that the really good wans take time to find form, I’ll give you just two words, Paul: Lubo Moravcik.
Lubo was one of my favourite ever Celts!

Bit on the warm side today. Not sure if it’s the weather or the heat coming off Tony Bloom’s computer after the work it went through to identify Stuart Findlay, previously at Kilmarnock with manager Derek McInnes………
Very impressed with Nygren from the clips I have seen. Not sure where he will fit in – looks comfortable in central positions. Good finishing instincts and a deft touch.
Would like another Abada-type winger.
Welcome Benjamin!
I hope we can tie Daizen down to a new contract . That will be as important as any new signings we make in this window . And if any new signings we do make can get close to Daizen’s energy , even better !
While all the talk is about wingers we are still waiting for the striker to replace Kyogo that the manager said he wanted in January.
People suggest that players want to see if we qualify for the Champions League before committing to signing. I could understand that as a reason if we didn’t have the same recruitment issues last year when we were guaranteed a spot in the Champions League.
While it is good to get the Swedish boy in, it is pointless bringing in a head of recruitment if all we are ever going to do is pick from what is left in the last few days of the transfer window. It could be debated that it isn’t the personel that’s failing but the strategy itself.
The more things change at Celtic the more they remain the same.
Give that Benjamin was out of contract in six months time and had already given an interview that he was leaving, it looks very much like we were pushing at an open door with this one.
It’s a guess but we’ve probably paid a little over the odds to get him in this early for someone we could have offered a pre contract to, although like the leader says we can’t expect him to make any significant contribution just yet.
Great to see Celtic fully backing our manager in the transfer market.
Brendan Rodgers doing exactly as he said, now a matter of record that Celtic shouldn’t be “ scrambling about at the end of the window “ looking to see who was available.
Nygren, Tierney, Doohan, are three experienced ready mades that can go straight into the team. Japanese ‘developmental’ players in this week, window shaping nicely keeps everyone happy, except you know who?
Only a full two months of this crap to wade through, probably quieten when training starts and the team set off on preseason, the all important ‘net spend’ is in the distant future.

Not sure why he hasn’t got the striker he wanted in January. He has the man he wanted in charge of recruitment.
Glendalystonsils
Totally agree.
It would be amazing if we could get Maeda signed up longer term.
Sadly unlikely I fear but personally I would love it.
Paul Tisdale reports to Brendan and Brendan speaks directly with Desmond. Brendan is in control. I see rumours that Fulham lad is close and many reports about others. I see suggestions we will sign 6 players.
I expect those on loan last season to be mostly moved on and maybe Kenny Yang and new projects sent on loan
Going by rumours etc….it looks as if 4.5- 5 million is top price as an outlay…..I’ll be happy in europa if this is the case….there is no point whatsoever in earning big bucks in CL and having loads of small fee players and hoping for the jackpot
Is mark lawwell back….are has the Dr been told what he needs to do to keep his job 🤔🤔
Brendan has always had his anxieties about wingers…..
Especially about having too many o em…..

That is the crux of the matter.
I would like to think a list has been created even if it starts with someone from Division two and working up to guys in the EPL. From there we need to focus in on who we can afford, or what we are prepared to pay both in wages and transfer fee, and that is where these guys earn their money.
If people outwith the football department are shifting the goalposts on the financial front then what is the point of a recruitment team. Similarly, if the recruitment team are identifying impossible targets then that is also useless.
If the opposition park the bus, low block, long out ball, on the break, then Brendan could play with eleven wingers and still not get a cross into the box to our One striker.
According to Neil Warnock, this new Hun manager plays like wee Barry did against us, or Aberdeen in the Treble bursting SCF.
Hmmmm.
Think we seem to forget Palma, Yang, Tilio who are wingers still on the books….

I’m confident that Benjamin Nygren will be on BURNLEY78’s Mark Lawwell’s signings list before the end of the year..;)
Hail Hail
Hello from steamy Kentucky. Had a neat experience on my morning run today. Despite my user name, I live in Northern Kentucky, and as Aipple can tell you, Celtic fans are far and few between in the Bluegrass State. Today I was running my usual six mile loop and came across a dog walker in a Celtic top. Once I got over my surprise, I shouted “Hail, Hail,” and I think he (Simon, an ex-pat) was more surprised than me! We didn’t chat for long, but it was nice to see a fellow fan in my neck of the woods.
Simon, if you’re lurking on CQN give me a shout!
Excellent news about Callum Osmand signing.
Celtic have announced the Fulham kid on a 4yr deal.
Tennessee Tim re: Tims in KY
Good to see your name! I am lucky here as my local has two UFBs behind the bar a few nights a week and are not strangers to a good tune! There was a Maga hat wearing Hun with his cheap R2ngers top on at the bar a week or two ago. I did let him have it.
HH!
Some interesting comments from Callum on his signing:
“When I spoke to the manager he was really positive, the plan and pathway he has set out for the club is top, so it’s exciting with the pathway he has for me”
“I’ve also spoken to Matt O’Riley on the phone, so he has given me advice. He was telling me about how big the club is, how amazing the fans are and it’s a new life”
@Aipple
We have plenty of MAGA mouth breathers here in Florence, KY, but none in Hun tops – thank goodness.
Seems they have arrested a 39-yr old bawbag in relations to the St Convals fire and headstone damage.

Any bets on whit team he supports ?
I’m sure they will be treating it as a hate crime.
Not.
A new offence of Bawbagerry, with a sentence of “gonnae no dae that” is the more likely outcome.
That they could not limit the damage was in part the result of a delightful debut from 33-year-old Moravcik, the kind of continental midfield orchestrator who doesn’t so much hit passes as lovingly craft them and, after Eddie Annand had snuck in behind the makeshift Celtic defence to slam home a shot to pull back a goal in the 22nd minute, it was the rare vision of the Slovak that pushed the contest beyond the visitors once more with a wave of the wand that doubles up for his foot to send Burchill clear for a slamming finish in the 27th minute.
Celtic’s pressure was incessant and within 10 minutes of the second half they had made it 4-1. The razor-sharp Burchill once again showed himself capable of all the things that the striker he was replacing, Harald Brattbakk, had found so difficult, when he controlled a cross with his left foot and tucked the ball away with his right. Within five minutes Celtic had made it six, an outrageous curling ball to the back post from Moravcik providing Larsson with his hat-trick before Simon Donnelly played keepy-uppy in the box prior to planting the ball wide of Robert Douglas.

Still in June. Window open for another 2 months.
Some supporters moaning about lack of signings, 10 minutes before our 4th signing announced.
Brilliant show from Rod Stewart at Glastonbury yesterday and what an ambassador he is for Celtic. Seeing all the tops on stage at the end was outstanding. Rod does so much for Celtic awareness around the globe in a way that no-one else can. Yes, his voice is going but the spirit is strong.
SAINT STIVS
I was in the Supporters Association in London Road before that Dundee game.
My brother, father and I were at the end of a table occupied by 4 or 5 Celtic supporters who were loudly ridiculing the club, specifically Fergus McCann and Jock Brown for signing “an unknown dud from Slovakia”.
I remember my father looking at me and shaking his head.
They certainly knew all about Lubo after that game.
Welcome to the Celtic Callum. 👍

Is Ferguson at West Ham still an option does anyone know please

Paul still dying on the hill you can’t possibly make good signings early. Still pining for the days of Mark Lawwell and his awful signings. Remarkable.
Tennessee Tim (from earlier) – welcome the chat.
I’m not sure we can have two TTims (other than Tiny) on the same blog – need to bring it up with the committee 😉
On a more serious note- howdy all from Burlington VT, here with the family and friends, party of 9, to celebrate Mrs Tex’s big birthday – Aipple, 21 again, of course.
These American Tims are enjoying themselves far too much. Harrumph!😂
