Squad vandalism visible in Korean players

245

Yang’s call up to the South Korea national team squad is recognition of his current form.  The player arrived in Glasgow as a raw 20-year-old in 2023, shortly after compatriot Oh (then aged 21) became a Celtic player.  A week later, Kwon (then 22) made it three came in from Korea that year.

Kwon never played a minute for Celtic.  He was left to wither on the vine for two years, with short loan spells at St Mirren and Hibs, before Nantes took him to Ligue 1 last summer.  He moved to Germany in the winter transfer window and is now a regular in Bundesliga 2 for Karlsruher.  Kwon (25) is a 6’ 4” No. 6 who was brought in to shadow Callum McGregor.  He joins Yang in the Korea squad this month, and had the profile of recruit we were looking for in 2023.  If we’d developed him correctly, he would own the No. 6 role in Callum’s absence.

Oh left Celtic for Genk for £2m in 2024 and has not looked back.  A medical denied him a €20m move to Stuttgart a year later, but Besiktas paid €14m for him in January.  At 24-years-old, he is a hot talent who is now miles out of our reach.  He makes it three players Celtic signed in 2023 who are in the South Korea squad this month.  The Koreans rank 22 in the world; Scotland are 38th.

Others who arrived in 2023 were Tomoki Iwata, who starts every week for Birmingham while Kyogo watches from the bench.  Gus Lagerbiekle (25), who is ripping it up for Braga in Portugal.  Maik Nawrocki (25) came in that summer and is currently on loan at Hannover – he scored against Schalke on Sunday.  Hannover will exercise their option to buy if they gain promotion from Bundesliga 2.

Luis Palma got 18 months and more game time than the others before being shipped out.  He is a big favourite at Lech Poznan, where he is on loan.  Marco Tilio is a player who signed that summer, picked up an injury almost immediately and was then ignored.  He rescued  his career with a move to Rapid Vienna last summer after a productive loan spell back in Australia.

Alastair Johnston joined from Montreal in January 2023 and despite an injury-hampered season he has been a standout at right back.  Illness denied Odin Holm an early chance and he has made little impact since.  He is the only permanent signing made in 2023 who has not kicked on in the game.

It is almost vandalism that talent like Oh, Kwon, Lagerbielke, Narwocki and others, recruited in one calendar year, were left to wither on the vine at Celtic, only to prove their worth elsewhere.  Why did Honda Civic Man take the job if he didn’t want to do the work?  No wonder the squad has a hollowed out feel to it.

    Looks like the…

    …deflection didn’t work

Some excellent posts and points debunking the ballyhoo…

It is also worth pointing out that AJ and Iwata were signed in December ’22 before the return of Peter Lawwell, which saw moneyball returning and HVPs like GG and JJ sold and loanee Mercedes Jenz shown the door.

By tying one hand begind his back, the Chairman did Mark Lawwell and Joe Dudgeon no favours…

“A lot more than a new manager required”

    https://youtu.be/rGTMrkKfl4s?si=wfh5E54ib7c4QXPA

Why would BR respond to DD’s hissy-fit?

Our self appointed autonomous leader embarrassed himself and the club with his official Celtic statement at the end of last year…

”We met with Brendan regularly, including in December last year [2024] and at the start of the summer [2025]…

    REGULARLY!?

We now have a greater understanding of how the decisions were made and signed off at Celtic.

Dermot Desmond, with Peter Lawwell and his son Ross as proxies, controlled everything with an iron fist.

The Executive were and are powerless puppets.

The absentee landlord feels meeting the manager twice and allowing “dialogue” with the heavily stymied Executive, supported the manager, while the Lawwell faction were working hard, utilising their dark arts against him.

Yet the fact remains DD and PL have been found out, opinions in Scotland mean little for but when Englandshire, Europe and USofA take notice of Scottish football and Celtic’s “business acumen” and “Executive” management is becoming a laughing stock, the placemen are mobilized and the blame culture, misdirection and deflection are once again the order of the day.

On tge “Business of Sport”, the complacent, unambitious Celtic PLC are exposed.

Fritzsong said this the other day…

”…The whole situation [at Celtic] is a dog’s breakfast. It calls for leadership. In the past, no matter your opinion, Peter Lawwell offered those qualities. He is gone….”

Does that make one iota of sense to you!?

Celtic are a dog’s dinner, yet our Chairman who left at the end of December 2025, offered quality leadership?

    Seriously.

His great leadership built such a great solid platform for the club, that within two and a half months of him leaving, the club descends into a dog’s dinner [and that’s the groupies] – a large contradiction there I’d suggest.

Burnley78, argues Peter Lawwell gave us great leadership but is not responsible for any failures as he was only following orders.

Accordingly, Peter “the great” Lawwell won us 36 domestic trophies but Brendan Rodgers who won 11 out of 13 trophies was a disaster as a football manager.

Peter Lawwell gave us financial stability but Celtic PLC’s revenue figures under this Chartered Accountant as CEO looked like a rollercoaster ride.

It’s all myth and legend isn’t it? Based on ballyhoo isn’t it?

Just the other week Tontine Tim gave us an example of the nonsense, – SFA football official’s daren’t have cheated Celtic if Big Pedro was about.

Talk of him getting in top Barristers to sort them out…

Yet when you ask for evidence none.

There is evidence of the much slighted Brendan Rodgers bringing in Nick de Marco, Lord Reid bringing in Paul McBride.

But Big Pedro collated secret dossiers don’t you know!?

Martin O’Neill said when he came back that it wasn’t a Celtic squad fit for purpose, he clearly stated – he came back because he felt somewhat beholden to Dermot Desmond for giving him the opportunity the first time round and he clearly stated he would not have returned for anyone else.

    Certainly NOT Peter Lawwell.

Back in Y2K, from Martin O’Neill coming in to Peter Lawwell being made Chief Exec in 2004/05, we had won 3 out of 4 titles.

The seasons following PL as CEO, in eight seasons we won four out of the eight championships and that includes winning the trophy the season Rangers selfcombusted.

After Rangers died and Celtic coasted in neutral for eight [8] seasons, until Pedro’s car-crash in 2020, Peter Lawwell got circa 8.5 mn in salary, 3 mn in bonuses, plus expenses, plus perks, plus pension – a 2.5 mn bonus in 2019 – an eye watering sum for that level of complacency.

He left as CEO of Celtic with the football club totally debased.

There was a marked improvement, firstly under Dominic McKay as CEO, then Micheal Nicholson as interim CEO.

Yet, that soon took a backward step, as his tenure as Chairman took hold, temporarily plastered over by BR&Co and guaranteed UC League football, yet under Big Pedro’s leadership it wasn’t long before the club was again debased, our current position.

Here is my prediction, now Peter Lawwell has gone, once his augean stables have been mucked out there will be a marked improvement in every aspect of the way Celtic Football Club will be run.

Due to a more competitive domestic football environment, we may not see the percentage of trophies won under Ange and Brendan being emulated again (16 out of 19 is phenomenal) but we will see Celtic ascend back to the levels they operated at 2000 – 2004, as we hark back to that level of quality.

If anyone thinks the 2023 intake were going to make us “world class” and “take us to the next level in Europe…

    As the saying goes…

I have a bridge to sell you.

Yet, no one believes it do they? This is all deflection away from the Board’s cluster….

“I was at a specialist yesterday and basically I’m going to need two surgeries now to fix my shoulder which is a bit of a body blow.

“It’s a torn bicep, I’ve torn the rotator cuff, disclocated the shoulder, torn the labrum – torn everything.

“It’s looking like 10-12 months of rehab. It’s been a strange few days.”

CBS presenter Kate Scott asked Kasper: “You are smiling, but how do you really feel about that?”

He replied: “I was told yesterday.

“I don’t really know anything right now, in the sense that you don’t know how to react to this.

“I could have potentially played my last ever football game.

“I have been a footballer since the day I was born. That kind of thought is devastating.

    Fact!

Being in the same zip code as Rodgers added value to the sometimes ordinary and often unwanted players that we shipped out.

  19. Kev…

No rational person thinks DD’s rant is true…

“In June, both Michael Nicholson and I expressed to Brendan that we were keen to offer him a contract extension, to reaffirm the club’s full backing and long-term commitment to him. He said he would need to think about it and revert. Yet in subsequent press conferences, Brendan implied that the club had made no commitment to offer him a contract. That was simply untrue.”

What is simply untrue was that Brendan said there was no offer – time and again he was asked about the extended contract at media conferences, time and again he said an offer had been discussed and stated no formal offer had been made, if it was made he’d seriously consider it – he had stipulations, one was the restructuring of Celtic’s player recruitment – a view that has been echo’d by numerous people including Martin O’Neill.

DD states: “His later public statements about transfers and club operations came entirely out of the blue. At no point prior to those remarks had he raised any such concerns with me, Michael, or any member of the Board or executive team.

How do you figure that one out, the world and his wife knew that Brendan Rodgers was unhappy but according to DD’s statement, neither he, nor Micheal Nicholson, nor the Board, nor the Executive team knew anything about it, it was even discussed after the 2024 summer transfer window.

The Celtic hierarchy went to Roger Hannah of The Sun at the beginning of September 2025 and said among other things…

“He’s the only manager in the club’s history who has repeatedly questioned things.

But DD is telling us at the end of October 2025, no such concerns were known by – “…Michael, or any member of the Board or executive team.

How do you reconcile that nonsense.

  24. Serious questions should be asked about the medical and physiotherapy KS has received since being injured with Denmark, it was very obvious his flexibility was impaired, was he told to get this diagnosed and treated properly or was it ignored? The extent of those injuries is massive.

  25. Kasper’s form this season has been erratic at best and now we know why. The injuries he lists above surely were suspected? He must have been playing while in pain and with limitations on shoulder movement?

The fans knew he was out of sorts, why didn’t the medical team and coaching staff? Or they did know yet thought an injured Kasper was better than Sinisalo?

Sounds like the bad old days when players with chronic injuries were excused training sessions and given steroid injections to allow them to play.

No doubt he was an excellent signing after Joe Hart, he was an important part of 2 title winning teams

That injury sustained against Portugal last season never properly cleared, he played when form affected by injury should have seen him step down for Sinisalo

    – “ I could have potentially played my last ever football game.”

  28. DB

I had a rotator cuff/frozen shoulder the restrictions on movement were huge but also your body adjusted as the shoulder muscles couldn’t work properly , so other muscles tried to cover for parts that were damaged hence you get biceps tearing I also had multiple rib muscle tears took well over a year to recover, I’m still wary of what I can do, I did not get steroid injections as they only mask the pain not cure the condition.

  29. General comment to acknowledge the possibly career ending injury that Kasper is dealing with. Sad, but at his age, full recovery is incredibly difficult. Great career, and a short but wonderful contribution to Celtic.

Regardless of circumstance, I’m confident that the greatest beneficiary will be Sinisalo, as he will not only get first team time from here until the end of the season, but there is little doubt he will have Kasper in his corner as a true team mate and the consummate pro that he is!

  32. Gedinte 20 years of dominance, counts for nothing in one season, maybe longer if you think we should have risked everything. We haven’t excelled in Europe but I don’t think it is for lack of trying. The season ticket money covers the basics, player trading gives us the paying power to attract talent to a backwater league. Yes they got Nancy wrong, changes will happen, like Brendans man Tisdale. Hating the people who built up a buffer is senseless in my eyes. Assuming they are not true Celtic supporters is based on emotion, not fact . Spend all the money, which we can’t anyway under the rules, doesn’t mean a thing, will not get the glory hunters what they want. £30 million on three players didn’t move us far. Sevco spent a fortune in recent years, how did that go. Our recent success came from attracting young talent and growing them, under a supportive environment. I don’t understand why our ultras want to be like the onions and our collective want to undermine our club. Maybe it’s because I have been a long time away from home and hating people who are wealthy is what makes people feel good now. Might as well hate the players who are wealthier, wait…None of it changes how I feel about Celtic and I am not going to follow follow the mob. I’ve never hid mate. Just can’t be bothered with the negativity most of the time. CQN is a far shake from what it was. Sign of the times. Hail Hail
