  1. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Remember no taking the team on tour pre-season, a lot of good that done eh

I doubt that’ll happen again especially when we were so bad in the one competition that gives us a clue as to how good we are.

A few more projects in during the next window will make a difference or it wont :)

Good afternoon CQN, some good posts after the game yesterday and most were civil and respectful to those making a contrary point of view

  3. Just think how good this season might get?

We could win the two league games now following defeats in the Scottish Cup and the League Cup.

Oh bhoy. How I cannot wait to celebrate those two victories stating the brilliance of winning them on the back of defeats.

WHAT AN ACHIEVMENT THAT WILL BE???

MWD is almost lost for words at the utter STUPID STUPIDITY of some EJGIT TIMS.

  4. Phil boy

its worth noting that Man Utds demise means that they have dropped into the Europa league

Whilst we have just been kicked out of that tournament in a quite unseemly manner

    I guess its all relative….

just saying that our advantage domestically is based on our ability to buy and pay more and better players

and that advantage has NEVER been higher in our clubs history.

Thats why some folk think that domestic domination is inevitable and not as much of an achievement as i was in previous times when we werent so well placed.

It doesnt mean we are not happy to get 10 in a row. In fact its expected!

In every single group of this year’s CL there were at least 2 teams with far better resources than us, most of them it was 3.

I think it’s extremely optimistic to suggest we could be regular last 16 competitors.

Delighted that the entries are flooding in for the next competition that starts this coming Saturday.

I have just sent an email to all those who have expressed an interest. Please check because if you don’t receive this I either don’t have your entry or I have the wrong email address and, in either case, just email us again if you don’t mind at cqnpredictor@gmail.com

Bit of a lunchtime rush here but I’ll try to post the full ‘advert’ again shortly (or this evening).

    CORRECT…

    Tamrabam….

With the death of oldco, the main competition has been removed in one foul, very foul (stinkin’ even) swoop and thank God for that ……this gives the league less of a competitive edge …….they will, most fortunately, NEVER be back, so we need to move onwards and upwards, with a less revenue challenge…..(the tribute act are a joke and the bhuns know it) … Don’t get me wrong, I am a delighted Celtic Supporter, by virtue of the fact that I will never see the hate-filled mob again …..if that means the competition is not as acute, I can live with that …HH ….I HAVE LOVED THE PAST 3 YEARS WITHOUT THEM ANYWHERE NEAR US….!!!!!!!!!!

    *** LAST MAN STANDING 6 ***

Apologies for the length of this post but there’s loads to cover, laying out the rules and the very important payment details.

We are now inviting entries for the latest Last Man Standing competition – LMS6. This will kick off next weekend so we are asking you to register your interest by WEDNESDAY and to pay your entry fee by SATURDAY. Remember that half of the fee goes to Wee Shay and the other half augments the prize fund. Full details follow.

But firstly, heart congratulations to The Celt 45 who was successful in LMS5 and won a not insignificant £645! A Big Happy Christmas to you and yours!

If you’ve not got time to be bothered with all the fine detail for now, just drop a “Count Me In” email to cqnpredictor@gmail.com .

    THE RULES

VERY IMPORTANT CHANGES – there’s a couple of new rules – 9 and 10 – to cover the possibility of postponements or abandonments. And please also note point 12, a change to what has gone before.

    1. Each week we’ll issue an email with the forthcoming set of fixtures to choose from. In general this will consist of the SPFL top flight games and the matches involving the current top 4 in England. But there may be the odd occasion when this changes, particularly on cup and/or international weekends. Because of the timing for this particular competition we might issue the first 4 sets of fixtures right at the start…..

    2. Each week you choose just one team and provided that team wins then you are still standing and through to the next week.

    3. Once you have chosen a particular team you cannot choose them again. THE ONUS ON KEEPING TRACK OF THIS LIES WITH EACH COMPETITOR as we don’t always get a chance to check every selection made prior to the games kicking off. If you need to double check and if you email us with plenty of notice we’ll try to help you out.

    4. If you pick the same team twice you’re aff oot! But see Rule 6

    5. If your team fails to win then you fall out of the competition. But see Rule 6

    6. If you fall out in weeks 1 to 3 (inclusive) you have the option of restoring your ‘fit and proper competitor’ status and paying your way back in with a further £10 donation [you can do this if you are unsuccessful in weeks 1, 2 and/or 3 and can do so more than once – this is, after all primarily about raising funds;-) ]. YOU MUST HOWEVER INDICATE THAT YOU INTEND TO BUY BACK YOUR HISTORY BEFORE THE FIRST FIXTURE STARTS IN THE NEXT SET OF GAMES.

    7. You must send in your selection before your team’s particular game kicks off. Please remember this if your selected team is playing on the Friday evening or Saturday lunchtime.

    8. As a rule of thumb, the selections will be collated and monitored by me. In an effort to be transparent I will announce my own pick when issuing each week’s fixture list. Until I drop out!.

    9. If a game starts but is abandoned before the final whistle the score at the point of abandonment stands.

    10. POSTPONEMENTS: (a) If any of a particular week’s fixtures is called off more than 3 hours prior to kick off, anyone who has picked from that game must send in a new pick or I’m afraid you’re out (but see rule 6 above). (b) if a game is called off with less than 3 hours to kick off, anyone who has picked from that game can either (i) send in a new pick – OR – (ii) make 2 selections from the following week’s fixtures. SO THERE’S RESPONSIBILITY ON THE INDIVIDUAL COMPETITOR HERE.

    11. Just for clarification, the winner can only ever be the last man standing. So if in a particular week ALL remaining competitors fall there’s no winner and the prize fund would roll over to LMS7.

    12. Once the numbers fall to a manageable level, probably when there are no more than 20 still standing, then I’ll reveal what teams the remaining competitors have already picked. And when all the picks are in each week I’ll again reveal who has picked which team. Brings a wee bit of added spice I hope.

  10. Are we truly at a stage were our expectations are good performances and results domestically after dross in Europe?

Is that were we are at?

Has Peter the Bonus Collector managed our expectations that low?

I am astounded of forehead if that is were we are at!

    Truly bewildered.

Because if that is were we are at there is no petential to recover and our team will be forever in free fall aligned with that of the domestic game.

We will not ever be able to compete realistically in the lat 16 of the CL. But getting to the Group Stages must always be our No.1 aim and expectation now. Obviously that aim and expectation means we expect and aim to be League Champions every year. Qualification out of CL group would be a bonus and 3rd place would an acceptable result dropping into the Europa League. Both providing interset after Christmas. landing 4th spot would be no major disaster.

But na. We are now in a position were we find that we are in the main extremely lucky if we qualify for Europa. We are applauding victories domestically we would expect to win anyway as the competition domestically is crap (at best) anyway after defeat in Europa.

    Bhoy ‘O’ Ghirl.

Yeah it is great being a Celtic supporter. But it should be so much better! And it easily could be if it were not for the managed and the expectation management allied with the Bonus collector and his business plan and strategy whicjh affords him his collection of bonus’s annually no matter the teams poor performance in Europe and mediocre title wins domestically.

  11. Weeminger

noted that 2 or 3 teams out of each section had more resources than us. Probably thats why they were the top teams in the group stages. No surprise there really. (ie more money generally equals more success. that obviously also applies domestically)

As regards regular qualification well you dont need to be in the top 2 teams to get regular group stage qualification. We have very regular opportunities to qualify. We just arent taking them, even when we face poorer clubs. We are misfiring. Poor manager and squad not giving value for the spend.

As regards last 16, the more times we qualify for the group stages, the more our seedings increase and more CL payouts equals more cash to have better quality players. It follows that it should then be easier to make last 16.

That is why the Euro results are so important nowadays. They also help to keep us head and shoulders above the domestic competition.

Anyway off oot, may pop back in later, but after being away for a few months its still much of the same really.

  12. Tamrabam

The obvious answer would be to reduce the player wage budget to nearer our domestic rivals which would produce a more competitive league.

The risk there is not winning the league.

Taking Molde first they won the NL league three times since 2011. Malmo did the same winning since 2010 but before that their last win was 2004.

The point is our higher wage budget guarantees us a shot at Europe EVERY year with the CL being the biggest prize if we get through the qualifiers.

The test there for us is just not the wage bill we play against but the fitness and settled nature of the opposition who, if Scandinavian, are halfway through their seasons.

I think the benefits of that showed in games against both.

So I don’t think there is much point using the size of our wage bill as a measure of where we should be. It is what it is to keep us playing in Europe every year.

I think if Celtic gave the support a choice of reduced wage bill, reduced ticket prices, more competitive domestic competition but no guarantee of UEFA competition and almost a guarantee we will do poorly there

    OR

our current wage bill and endeavours to reduce the advantage of match fitness and churn give our main competitors, then we would want our current wage bill (but I would like to hear what others think) .

The CL is a league in which we are unlikely to be competitive see Malmo, so the Europe League is now our standard.

For that we should be match fitter as it starts later and more settled in selection and formation. We were not this year because we hung on to VVD to get into the CL and had anything but a settled back four right up to now.

In a way the CL for Celtic (and other clubs who qualify but become goal fodder for clubs with access to far greater revenue streams) is Fools Gold.

However we should always be in Europe after Christmas so clearly that needs addressing. I think more attention to a more defensive set up in European games is needed and that comes at no cost at all. Just a change of mind for those games (and cheaply finding another Wanyama or Neil Lennon type).

  13. SOUTH OF TUNIS

“Molde. We will not underestimate them. They won a group containing Ajax and Fenerbache.” -Sevilla manager.

I guess that tells us a lot how Celtic are now regarded in Europe, eh?
