St Mirren 0-2 Celtic

1198

Celtic collected all three points from St Mirren Park at lunchtime today but were under the cosh for most of the game.  James Forrest opened the scoring in the 71st minute before Scott Brown secured the points two minutes from time to secure Celtic’s 11th consecutive SPL win.

Marc McAusland forced an early save from Fraser Forster on the goal line as a notice of intent on how the first half traffic was going to flow before Gary Hooper made Celtic’s only attempt on goal in the first half, a hooked shot from 35 yards.  After 15 minutes a Mulgrew corner was headed towards his own goal by Steven Thompson, who was fortunate the ball struck his own player on the line.  Five minutes alter Thompson tested Forster with a header at the other end which was saved well.  Graham Carey had a good chance late in the first half but shot wide from a tight angle.

The second half started in much the same patter with St Mirren flowing forward at every opportunity and Celtic looking out of sorts.  Paul McGowan setup Dougie Imrie on his St Mirren debut but Forster saved well again.  The home team’s best chance of the game came when a Van Zanten shot from just outside the box was flicked towards the opposite post by McGowan but Forster somehow managed to twist his body and flick the ball safe.

Neil Lennon realised his formation wasn’t working and withdrew Samaras and Ki for Stokes and Commons, the addition of the latter proving crucial.  Commons set pieces, intelligent use of his body and possession troubled St Mirren.  On 59 minutes his corner was met by Rogne, whose goal-bound header struck McAusland on the raised arm, although the defender knew little about it.

On 71 minutes a Commons free kick was punched clear by Samson by Scott Brown met it at the edge of the area before rolling the ball in front of James Forrest.  The Celtic wide player shot first-time from 19 yards and found the inside of the post to open the scoring.

St Mirren continued to push forward and McAusland forced yet another save by Forster.  Hooper played a one-two with Stokes before shooting narrowly wide but a minute later Imrie came just as close to drawing St Mirren level.

An 88th minute short corner by Commons to Scott Brown caught St Mirren sleeping.  The Celtic captain slipped a left foot shot inside the far post, a carbon copy of his Scottish Cup goal against Rangers last season.

A minute from time a Commons free kick was headed in off the post by Thomas Rogne but the assistant referee incorrectly flagged for offside despite the Celtic defender being four yards onside.  The game poor advert for the SFA officials with a bizarre collection of mistakes made over which team knocked the ball out of play at corners and throw–ins.

  1. Margaret McGill, BOBBYMURDOCHS etc,

We all love Celtic, of that there is no doubt.

Some of us get to show our support by following Celtic to every or most or some grounds, no matter where. I don’t get to games much this weather, home or away, and always picked my away games to meet the cut cloth. Late 90s I always tried to get tickets for Kilmarnock (A) because they seemed brutally motivated post-TB leaving them for us (understandable).

Some of us only go to home games.

Some of us don’t get to games at all anymore.

Some of us have never been to a Celtic game.

I’m not ever going to tell any Celtic fan/supporter where they should go. However I think it is worthwhile to remind our fellow hoops to think about where their money goes and who/what that money maintains.

I absolutely recognise the power that could exist in the collective action of Celtic supporters, and I think if that power could be harnessed we could have a huge meaningful influence on the future of football in Scotland and the UK.

James Forrest, auldheid, Barcabhoy, RTC, and the rest of us…somewhere between us all, the will and the way is there to make sure we do not get shafted in what is about to befall Scottish football. We know it’s coming, continue wargaming and let’s be in a place where we can act or react for the benefit of Celtic in a positive (or possibly in this case, the least negative) way

Lenny has said that he does not want the support to boycott away games. There in lies a tale…

2 years ago I was in Ashland Ohio doing an audit. Wont explain more. Anyway I see these Amish in their black attire black horses and their black buggy doing their rounds as their smug arrogance takes them on their daily routines in the mega metropolis through the backwaters of Ohio. As I am apprehensive in overtaking such a magnificent bearded scene in front of me I just slowly follow in car enclosed comfort and watch in awe at the spectacle unfolding in front of me. What a wonderful picture of independence, free thinking and religious autonomy. Then they stopped and picked up a filthy old mattress that someone had dumped on the road for garbage collection.

Nothing quite like faith I says to myself.

  8. Margaret. Why would I not believe you

Can’t remember much about the game

I do remember 2nd leg, Tommy burns scored at Celtic end to equlise in last minute

We won in extra time. Think Albion actually scored 1st at Celtic park??

Talking about remembering that era,how about this one?

Nottingham Forest,we got beat 2-1 due to Big Roy failing to take out the winger-Wigley?-and I woke up the following morning with 100% recollection of the game, but no recollection of going through a turnstile, and a ticket in my back pocket.

The b……s I was with teased me for weeks about that, squeezing into the turnstile with one of them cos I couldnae find my ticket.

Eventually my Dad told me that a gate got broken down to solve the crushing.

David Begg went ballistic on the radio today.Maybe twenty times,or more.Every time ra Ranges got within 50 yards of the Aberdeen area.

Like a pressure cooker he was.As God is my judge,i had to check the final result, over and over again, just to be certain that the game finished 1-1.My ears might have been deceiving me,but listening to his commentary,it seemed that ra Ranges, had in fact won the said game,by 25 goals to Aberdeen’s 1.

Yip.On planet David Begg, the score was this: Ranges 25-1 Aberdeen.

Deluded they are, they are the people, after all.On planet Ranges, everything is sweet, they are superior in every way, regardless of the truth. The truth doesn’t matter to them.

But fair play to yer man Richard Gordon. He spoke about a text, allegedly from one of ra peepil, obviously not happy with the draw. The real result.”Vile” was the word Gordon used to describe the said text.Blaming all and sundry for the result, blaming everybody bar themselves.

Livid they are, absolutely furious. The whole world is against them.If you asked me,i would describe them as being paranoid in the extreme. And to think that they, and their media had the brass necks to label Celtic supporters as being paranoid!!

The very same mob that are trying to ban/silence media organisations all over Scotland.Their very own media at that!

    Poor mis-guided fools.

And i will say one thing,Jock Brown was the best commentator that Scotland ever produced, despite what some of our support think of him.Fair and impartial, that is the key.

“Stevens in trouble, here’s Joe Miller, and the celebrations begin on the Celtic bench…”

I will never forget that quote, til the day a die.

Heaven knows they are hurting now, more than they ever have. The anger and the rage is everywhere, everywhere it is.

    Beautiful.

    Good to see.

  15. Anyway, it looks as if everyone has gone to bed, so here’s my sypnosis of the game.

    Broony MoM

FF good game with no mistakes

    Centrebacks did well, good partnership?

Full backs. Cha great at going forward pity he cannot cross the ball. Ledley, needed in midfield.

Vic, his worst game in a Celtic shirt.

    Ki, missing

Samaras. could’nt get going, like Ki better at Celtic park.

Forrest, missing in first half, and I did have him being substituted after KI and Sammi, A bit like the Hibs cup game,

Always produces a bit of magic.

Hooper, a bit lost on his own.

Subs, well they changed the game.

    Officials, MiBs at their finest.

I cannot forget, my wife was due any day and was convinced that it was a bhoy. I had booked an appointment for the tattoo artist,

and was going to get a (The one who cannot be mentioned) tattoo.

Talk about dodging a bullet. that was mine

Was that the last ‘honest mistake’ that cost them a game? Cause we’ve had dozens since.

  17. Sixteen roads to Golgotha on

Fair play to those Aberdeen players. The roar and the chanting after der hun had scored, was almost frightening.Lesser men could have easily wilted in the midst of that.Incandescent rage it sounded like,it seemed even worse than when they have scored against us ffs!

    Madness.

I know when we score, our supporters make noise, but it’s usually a sound of delight, gladness so to speakWhen they scored they seemed to get angry.Every decision that went against them today, was greeted with howls of derision.

Sometimes i think that match day officials are terrified of them, for nobody does hate quite like they do.

It’s not funny, but you have to laugh at them all the same.

  22. Way down in Uruguay, in the land of sun,

A football feast was to be seen.

Between the Glasgow Celtic, the Champions of Europe.

    And the Racing from Argentine.

Now everybody came to the land of sun just a football feast just to see,

Well there was TV cameras from every nation,

but none from the BBC, ITV. So

    Chorus

Count one, two and then kick, it was the craziest game ever seen,

Between the Glasgow Celtic, the Champions of Europe,

    And the Racing from Argentine.

Now the referee he came from Paraguay, a South American State,

Well now the Glasgow Celtic did’nt think much of him,

But The Racing thought he was great,

For he sent off Jimmy Johnstone, Boobby Lennox too,

He ordered off big Yogi Bear as well,

But wken he sent off Bertie and told him he was dirty,

Bertie told him to go to hell, so

    Chorus

Well you may have heard somewhere or even read somewhere,

That a Racing player was attacked,

    From the back,

By a gentle Giant known as our Tommy Gemmell.

    The Glasgow Celtic’s left back.

    Well I asked Big Tam.

Who’s as gentle as a lamb,

Is there anything that he would like to say,

He said I seen it on TV,I know it was’nt me,

And I’m sure it was Danny Kaye, so

    Chorus

Now it’s a sad reflection on a game of football,

When a team like Racing win a cup,

But the next time we meet them,

Were surely going to beat them,

For the Celts will be toughened up,

Well I heard today, down Paradise way.

Mr Stein was’nt going to let it get him down,

He said to make my Celtic super we’ll sign up Henry Cooper,

And wer’e trying for Walter McGowen, SO

    Chorus

It’s a Saturday night, I was out for a nice lunch in Barcelona today, so it’s a quiet night in for me……

so with nothing better to do I thought I would check out Bett and Ellis……maybe we are all missing something……maybe these guys, who after all are Whyte’s business partners….maybe they are the real deal

You can quite often get an idea of someone’s wealth by where they live….not always admittedly, however, some of you may remember i posted a link to the previous Billionaire who was going to save Rangers…..remember Graeme Duffy, the Florida tycoon ……well I had heard more than a few uncomplimentary things about Duffy from some chums in the Property sector, so I ran a little check, and posted it on CQN and KDS

Duffy had a track record not dissimilar to Whyte and was a serial go-buster…..i also linked to google maps as I had managed to find his home address in Florida…..no real surprise that it was a very modest bungalow which wouldn’t have looked out of place in any run of the mill Scottish suburb

co-incidently the media dropped their promotion of Duffy very shortly afterwards, and he has remained a joke figure ever since

So….on to Ellis and Betts…..Now I am not going to post links as they both live in the UK, and that wouldn’t be fair…..what I will say is Betts, who if you believed the hype over his track record in the Press release when Whyte bought Rangers, was a serious City man…..

His track record is no more impressive than Duffy’s and his own very modest home, bought for £320,000 in 2008, in Bishops Stortford, is hardly Southfork

Now there is no shame in not living palatially, however the signs would suggest he is very far from a serious player….both by his track record and his main home.

Ellis, lives in Barnes SW13 in a pleasant semi detached 2 bedroom home which he purchased for £730,000 in 2005.

His track record in business terms is another of failure and serial go-busting. He does not appear to have any serious business track record

Whyte has been discussed to death on here……his track record is so bad the BBC felt compelled to highlight his many many failures in a Documentary

These are the 3 individuals who are the Directors of the company who own Rangers…..or at least they were before Betts resigned yesterday….

How could anyone think that they could possibly be the saviours…..It takes an hour of research to come up with this…..No wonder RTC and Paul67 are so condemnatory of the media in Scotland……

Fergus put together a board that included a deputy governor of the bank of England, a genuine Billionaire in Dermott, and the Chairman of BAT which is listed on the proper London Stock Exchange with a market Cap of £59.2 Billion. Sir Pat Sheehy has a professorship named after him at Cambridge. Fergus also energized the fans, paid all the bilsl, every single one of them, and raised the greatest amount ever , with the greatest number of subscribers by a Football Club in the UK

Thats what’s needed when your club is in danger….. Not the Moe , Curly and Larry of the business world.
