  3. Since St Mirren moved to their current stadium , there have only been two games where we have scored more than two goals , a four nil and a 5 nil win. It’s a place we rarely play well at. I don’t think any of us can explain why.

I’m not making excuses for our poor but winning show tonight however there seems to be a trend with our poor performances and amount of goals we score each time we play at St Mirren Park.

  4. Just watched Alba – massive chunk of my life passed with memories of Jock.

i’ll take a win anytime but tonight was not Jock’s Celtic, it wasn’t my Celtic. I hope some of those who played tonight in pyjamas and slippers listen to Bertie’s words – ‘I felt the shirt tighten, I thought I had lost a hoop’

This is the ten we are are going for – faint hearts and fan dancers need not apply.

Will our VST be in operation or are we getting fleeced again?

  10. I saw only the BBC highlights ( who was that co-commentator?) and I thought we were below standard but we were a lot better than St Mirren. Pity about the penalty miss. Goal difference could be psychologically important on Saturday evening.

  11. In ither news……………..

We are at home to Livi so the VST will operate, as it willl for the late September match with Hibs. On Friday 2nd October, we play St. Johnstone away- need to see if that has been picked up by the TV companies for live coverage.

Celtic cannot operate the VST for away games, only Celtic TV coverage and that’s for those who are not in Scotland. Still possible to see “for free” on some other platforms if you don’t want to pay what other clubs charge you.

  13. Logging in on Fablet………………just because I can.

    Yup – that covers it.

VST for home games – ‘other platforms’ for away games – especially those being covered by the hideous Sky TV – the commentary sounds much better in Polish ;-))

  15. Last nights win gives us the opportunity to go top of the league on Saturday based on the same number of games played at that point. No point in looking beyond that. Ross County played better football than the Saints did last night and lost 5-0. Then again they didn’t attempt to foul every Celtic player every time said player got on the ball, for the whole game. Look at wee Frimpers, came on as a late sub, fouled every time. Not easy to play flowing football with your ankles and achilles at risk. That said Neil Lennon needs to realise that what worked before, ie Christie, Brown and McGregor as first choices, will not necessarily work this season. Far too disjointed, in part due persistent fouling, but also due to each ploughing a lone furrow, (an analogy which would have worked better in the days of farmers fields) every time they got on the ball. Ntcham the exception when he arrived later on the pitch. We will look a whole lot better back at Celtic Park though, confident of that.

Neil Lennon made four changes to the side the won 0-5 at the weekend and it might have looked too many for the Celtic fans watching on line.

Tough watch as per normal in Paisley, where the tight wingless ground made it difficult for Forrest and the restored Taylor, to get the width for service to the new pairing of Eddy and Paddy, lose a sloppy goal and the signs looked ominous but for a quick recovery from Celtic with two headers from crosses supplied by Ryan Christie. Big strong SPL squad and rotation for 3 games inside a week will be best judged on Saturday at time up. Even when Celtic went ahead all Goodwin’s men stayed firmly behind the ball and Eddy’s missed penalty ( too near the keeper ) made for ia nervy ending where St Mirren were dangerous on the break, but Duffy and co swotted any danger, and it was three points in the bag, and job done

Still prefer four at the back myself CSC

I know my source is from Wikipedia but according to this there is almost no difference in the pitch dimensions between Celtic Park and St. Mirren Park, so the argument about a tight ground don’t seem to hold up, can anyone confirm this?

    Confused CSC

  17. I’ve just heard Lenny on the radio say the “shape” was better last night.

Christ, my stream must have been a lot worse than i thought!

  18. Anybody know of a system that works well for the talented footballers we seem to have accumulated?

    Asking for a friend.

It seems that the ole cognitive dissonance in absolute statements like ‘we won and 3 points are all that matters’ are what passes as the only permissable narrative on this dwindling site of cliques and bully bhoys for anyone who might want to feel worried about a pattern emerging in front of us.

A decent side with a competent management team will be licking their lips at playing us.

  19. Stating the obvious again…. but I know nowt about fitba’………..

    :)

My question is – in the professional game, over 90 minutes, how do you break down and get thru 10 defenders set up to prevent, frustrate and occasionally wound the current Champions of the League?

    I’ve no idea.

  20. Neil is starting to make himself sound foolish in his post match interviews.

The Celtic support is watching the game, even though we are not in the stadium.

I hope to never see Greg Taylor in a Celtic shirt again. His confidence is shot, because he knows he is not good enough. James Forrest not much better on the other side of the pitch. Headed goal apart, he offered virtually nothing again. Hope he is dropped and replaced by Jeremie Frimpong on Saturday. A lot of work needs done in Lennoxtown on tactics and team shape. Get it done Neil. This team have slowly regressed since Brendan Rodgers and his coaching team fled to Leicester. Thankfully the tribute act of Ibrox are a poor team, or we would be in bother.

Think we will be top of the league on Sunday night, with a game in hand.

You play two two wing backs who can beat their direct opponent, with skill and pace, can hit the byeline and accurately deliver the ball into the box for our twin strikers. Unfortunately, we have Taylor and Forrest.

  24. onenightinlisbon on

The difficulty is that some players know they are on the team sheet week after week despite how poor they play. Brown/Forrest/McGregor/Christie…. What’s the point of having guys like Turnbull and Soro and leaving them on the bench?

The manager has to try to put a positive spin on things post match but the “blame” for the slow start to the season lies squarely at his door and as I have said before on here I pray that his loyalty to some players will not cost us the ten.

  25. Bannkiebhoy…

I know nowt either but enough to suggest trying:

Players who can break lines with a pass (Rogic) or a dribble.

Wingers who can beat a man and deliver a cross.

Ball carrying CM who can help drag stuffy defences out of position.

Set piece delivery that creates chances or goals. Duffy looks a monster attacking now which is great.

The slow, side to side or the new Brown to Duffy, Duffy to Brown, “you have it, no you have it” will help the wall builders no end. Having creative players sit on the bench does tend to help the stuffy teams too.

I’ve no idea what our shape is. Against stuffy St Mirren last night we had 4 players (including Brown) in defensive positions for example. They were happy to watch them pass to and fro before entering into that danger zone and keeping it narrow.

Play it left as Taylor won’t hurt you and double up on Forrest (whose quality of play when given time will hurt you). Oh and crowd out on the left hand side Odsonne, who has gone through a multitude of partners or asked to play on his own. He looks frustrated to me.

  26. As others have posted…it was a tough watch at times last night…but in the end to get the 3 points was all that really mattered.

Over many decades, ive lost count of the number of games that Oldco/newco have won..playing “ugly”.

Yes, we are Celtic and we should be looking beyond the manner in which the Huns win games, as to not compare ourselves with thems in any shape or form…but sometimes it isnt possible….what with corrupt and biased Refs, and everything else that refs and opponents do to try and deny a Celtic win.

The DELIBERATE late challenge on young Kris Ajer last night was worthy of a yellow Card at least…as the St Mirren player just “took out” Ajer as he sped past him.

I cant remember if the Guy was booked for that deliberate foul ?

I missed the last 15 minutes or so, so I cant comment on any of the fouls on Frimpers…and whether any were worthy of a Red Card etc ?

I also get frustrated at the number of times that we try to play the ball to French Eddy…when hes being feckin ambushed by around 3 or 4 defenders ?

Anyway, on to Saturday now for the Famous to show their stuff LOL !
