  1. The biggest part of our season will be the shutdown….allowing for new recruits, injury returns and rest for the tired

  2. Kyogo was risked whilst not fully fit on Sunday

We have Giakoumakis, Ajeti, Forrest, Jota and Turnbull all injured

And a midfield that depends on a bit of genius from Rogic

Bottom line Squad is not strong or good enough

    All areas

This early shutdown, we need to try and get players in quickly to settle into squad prior to league restart

And look to move quite a few on

Barkas, Bolingoli, Soro, Ajeti to name a few (Henderson doesn’t look to be making it either, if he cannot replace an injured Turnbull ?)

Some of the youngster out on loan for game time

  3. 31003

If we need more additions, which I agree we do.

The summer transfer window wasn’t good enough.

  4. Last post from me for a while

Team for sunday (If they are able to play)

    Harte

    Ralston CCV Welsh Taylor

    Mcgregor Biton Rogic

    Signings for January

The Japanese trio. Our two loanees on permanent deals. Another keeper. Minimum.

On to Perth. Happy Christmas to all the good guys.

Digital detox is on. Physical retox also on!!!!!

    Really? Unprecedented you say?

Remind me, who started up front for us when we went to Ibrox in January 19? It was MJ. We played for around 3 months of that season with 1 fit striker in Eddy.

Who started up front in the LC final against Sevco in December 19? It was Lewis Morgan.

We have been woefully ill prepared and under strength year on year. We went into this year’s CL qualifying with Murray and Welsh at CB!

This stems from our Board preferring to have £30m in the bank than spent on the playing squad.

We are handing a skint Sevco the title. If they can win a league while skint, chances are they will be getting 3 in a row with the help of CL money.

Just sick of the incompetents running the club.

  7. On another note, he must really not fancy McCarthy. Four-year contract.

Is this the “big mistake” McKay was “personal-reasoned” for?

  8. Sunday was a magical day and Ange made the correct decisions for the day.

The day will live long in my mind, when tonight will just be a distant memory.

The players we had out there tonight should have been able to see off a makeshift St Mirren team. Did the uncertainty of the actual game being played hamper our preparations?

With 80% possession but a toothless attack, I would have put Anthony Ralston up front. A battering ram if you like.

All is not lost, we can beat the huns and with a normal day on Jan 2nd I’m sure we would have done so quite emphatically. We do not seem to lack performance on the bigger occasion, we thrive on it.

It is low key games like tonight, Livingston and at Dingwall where we cannot seem to raise our game.

Finally, can we really berate teams for poor results against the huns until we beat them ?

    HH the journey continues.

  9. Aye he fluked it last season ……..we haven’t seen him and injury has prevented him settling in.

seen enough of him this season to recognise he is a dud.

If that’s the case, it would be interesting to know who signed off on Ajeti, Barkas and Boli but yet retained their position. After all, McCarthy was a free, those 3 were the best part of £13m.

    Aye, we’ve had injuries before

“1 fit striker” is 1 more than we have now

  13. RC on 22ND DECEMBER 2021 10:28 PM

Giakomakis scored 26 goals in 30 games last season. The season before he managed 3 in 12; the season before 2 in 10 and for AEK his record was 1 in 30.

I won’t be writing him off just yet but last season really does look like a freakish outlier.

  14. Lots of teams try Park The Bus- most leave heavily defeated but w find a couple escape with draws and we congratulate those random lucky managers as tacticl geniuses.

I am gutted we lost tonight but we have won quite a dew of those frustrating games and were , possibly, overdue, a game where we tripped up. Total domonation of possession and chances (on or off target) but quality was missing. Our long shooting, (Bitton, Rogic and Calmac) was mostly easily blocked or saved and such penetration as we had came from MJ, initially, and Juranovic late on.

No-one had a very good game tonight but, if forced to choose who was most industrious and efective, I would be choosing between MJ, Ralston and Juranovic only.

We lost two points tonight- we’ll have to suck that up and go again. Ange and the bhoys will be more resilient than the fans in doing so.

However……. Squad rotation or not, the style of football played by Man City, Liverpool, Celtic and Leeds does place strain on player’s fitness and injuries. It does require squad rotation. Pep rotates regularly before players become injury prone, but he has a depth of reserves that we can only dream of. Bielsa provides a better example of the downside. After a flying, albeit rollercoaster start, where he was loved by Leeds fans, he has lost 4 or 5 regulars and has not got the depth of squad to cope.

In October Leeds won 2, lost 2 and drew 1 as the cracks appeared. In November they had 1 win , 2 draws and a defeat but in December, they’ve had 3 defeats and a draw with a 5:16 gol difference.

Bielsa won’t change his approach either but his team have dropped to fifth from bottom and are 5 points off the relegation group of 3, two of whom have games in hand over them. Some of his missing players have come back or will do so soon but new injuries will occur and older ones will recur.

Ange knows that January recruitment is vital to us getting closer in this league race. It is a long way from being too late but that was still a sore one tonight.

  15. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

On 60 minutes I said to myself, if you’re going to panic, panic early.

TBF the manager brought on Juranovic, but we needed to change tactics.

I’d have brought on McCarthy, put Bitton back in defence and put CCV up front as centre forward. It may not have worked, but it would have been different from the tactics that were clearly not working.

I always feared we’d drop points playing Ange Ball, but thought it would be from giving away goals playing out from the back. I still think the manager needs to adapt tactics.

  16. On the good summer transfer front I mentioned

    Hart

    CCV

    Juranovic

    Kyogo

    ….and forgot all about Jota

But some on here think it was crap

  17. we now need to beat the huns 3 times and hope our form against the rest is as good as/better than theirs.

    highly feckin unlikely ;-(

    MARTIM1980 have a good one.

  19. Found wanting at the first.

Dreadful night in Ferguslie Park another venue still to see a good game of football, Celtic man Jim Goodwin’s two banks of five seen to that and pissed all over AP’s threadbare squad, laughing off 83% possession in a game where we weevere never repeating last weeks histrionics on 95.minutes

Naivety or no strikers take your pick, in a Christmas cracker not, where St Mirren’s covid misfortune turned into a point well won, and not the semblance of a controversial hand ball to get us by the academy levels. Dreadful performances have skipped past us, with narrow wins but not tonight on the bobbly Paisley pitch where two points were squandered, despite 31 ‘attempts’ on goal. We all have our favourites, so special mention on the naughty step to Mikey Johnston, Leil Abada, and Nir Bitton who were pityful in equal measures.

No idea either why wee Owen Moffat lasted so long, perhaps the manager needs his philosophy format regardless of who fills his positions? – if we’d have surrendered the ball for even a few minutes, any decent Celtic side would have scored on the break. Amateur hour AP heads back to 1st Cavalry Division Fort headquarters, and the ‘don’t worry we only need to beat Sevco x times to win this.

    M.O.M Hoopy the Huddlehound

  20. We need the January signings to hit the ground running because injuries will happen post break.

We’ve one cup in the bag and I think we’re strong favourites for the SC. We’ll take some beating in the conference as well.

The season is shaping up nicely but you obviously want to sustain the title challenge for as long as possible so a win on Boxing Day is a must.

The league may prove too much this year but we’re going in the right direction.

  21. I might be wrong but the way I see games is

All play with eleven men behind the ball home or away against Celtic

Most fancy attacking Sevco when they’re at home…there in lies the difference

We are by far more respected by the opposition

Short term hedonism v deferred gratification.

Reserve judgement till the season’s over.

  23. @ 31003 on 22ND DECEMBER 2021 10:33 PM

But that’s the point, in those examples we didn’t have 1 fit striker either. It’s not novel due to us being so badly prepared.

  24. Been coming — single goal wins are the “Erse” end of football.

The elastic had to snap one day — and tonight it went out with a bang.

We don’t have a MF / MF set up capable of winning the SPL.

That is the issue that needs to be fixed

CMcG is the weak link — not a winner in a month of Wednesdays.

DT is 12 months away from the player we need and he can be.

TR left his A game at Hampden and we had / have nothing else to give.

NB can fill a jersey but in games like tonight we need more.

The play tonight was horrible for its lack of drive from the MF and the profligacy of the forward line.

So nothing new — not sure what happens next.

OM was just a punt too many tonight.

It would appear that JJ was benched to try and remind him of the need to stop faffing about when he has the ball / with time in plenty of space — not pass it straight to the opposition or the nearby linesman.

Huge squad issues — total lack of striking talent down the ranks until you get to RV who is 16.

We need to recruit big / very big in Jan — either that or get in talented midgets by the Snow White load.

  25. RC

“agree re Moffat , will not make it at Celtic , will find his own level.”

    ——————————————

Bobby Lennox told me that there were a few Terracing Tams who told him early in his Celtic career that he’d never make it.

Please note that I am not equating or comparing Owen to Bobby Lennox. The comparison I am making is the surety with which people dismiss promise before it has had development time.

Odds are, you will be proven right as most young players don’t make it to be Celtic first team regulars. But you will have seen the same sentiments being written early on in the careers of Callum McGregor, Janes Forrest, Shunsuke Nakamura and right back to Tommy Callaghan.

I would wait for more evidence before I step on the career of a guy who is not yet twenty and who has had to overcome more obstacles than we have ever had to, in order to reach the position of actually playing for Celtic. He might well fall short of being a regular but he will have dreamed the dream so many of us could not actualize.

  26. Ps anyone who thinks the cheats would have dropped points tonight is on the wrong site. The cheats would have gotten a pen, a cheating dive and a cheating ref obliging.

They showed the world today that they are cheats.

  27. MM

Midfielders are ineffective when there are no forwards making runs

Had Kyogo, and dare I say it, Ajeti been on the park, I’m sure we would have seen a plethora of forward passes to feet and into space from the ineffective midfielders

  28. glendalystonsils on

The league is far from decided but I would say that the 6 point gap is the very maximum we can afford right now . Even with their army of pet referees , the huns will drop points ,perhaps when it’s least expected , as we did tonight .
