  1. Last night was as disappointing as it was predictable.

Who turns things around? Who claws back 6 points, beating a team we haven’t won against in 2 years? Ange? On his own?

What about the backroom staff, the ones we were preparing to let go had Edddie Howe joined? The ones who subsequently became acceptable.

Maybe Michael will help. You know, the accountant.

Losing the league to sevco this season would have been difficult, though understandable. They were 25 points ahead last season.

That they have changed manager mid season, makes any defeat worse.

We need to reign in the excuses and demand more from the entire footballing operation.

    Disappointing

Ange should have had the decency to walk the park he was going to ask his players to play on. If he could have been arsed, last nights result could have been avoided.

  3. After that result I kept well away from her last night, those results only allow the arsehole KevJ to come on abusing all and sundry, he’s been doing it for years people really need to wise up and ignore him.

Anyway the football, its obvious to me where our problems are, our set plays against a packed defense are dreadful. The quality of ball and lack of imagination not to mention that no one seems to be capable of getting on the end of a cross. The result did not surprise me its been coming, as soon as we lose two or three players the reserves are nowhere near the quality required, I was hoping we could make it to the shutdown without dropping any points and then improve the quality. Sadly not to be.

SO we are up against it, 6pts behind with a very limited squad and to add insult to injury I have no faith that the board will deliver what Ange needs. Number one priority apart from new signings is to work on corners and free kicks. Still 100% behind the manager. Nakamura would score a barrow load in this system.

By the way whatever the question is Mikey J is not the answer. Time to move on.

  4. Good morning all from the Garngad, not even pulled the blinds yet so I do not know what the weather is like.

That was abysmal last night, to keep doing the same backward/sideways passing for 95 minutes is embarrassing.

We need to move the ball faster and hit teams when they commit players forward, this should be getting drilled into them and reminded to the players during the game.

St Midden are another club that should take up another sport because that certainly was not football. They should be ashamed of themselves. The whole management team are an embarrassment to football.

We move onto St Johnstone which will be just as tough.

I thought we would have dropped more points in this period so on reflection this period ain’t been to bad points wise.

    D :)

If Ange could have been motivated enough to walk onto that park last night in preperation he might have seen what the Saints were doing down the flanks with watering cans all day ffs. There could well have been a better result, if he could have been arsed.

Livingston, now St Mirren. Not good enough.

  6. One thing we didn’t have last night and in general, is physicality in the last third. A high ball into the box, is a waste and is usually cleared by the opposition. Would a fit Giakoumakis be able to help last night? Maybe, but we’re really down to the bare bones and lack depth of quality (and ability in the air apart from our Centre backs and Tony Ralston and maybe Scales). Very happy with Ange and the progress we have made. Big loss of points but we’ve been far more behind before. Hopefully we bring in the wee Japanese boys and a few (big) others.

  7. Well what a difference a few days make . Like every Celt I’m Really disappointed by last nights result . It is certainly a setback for us but nothing that is not recoverable , but one thing for sure last night highlighted the fact we have players not good enough to represent Celtic fc . We think we only need a couple of players to give us a team , injuries aside we need a good few quality signings , what was that attack like last night lightweight on both wings , Abada ,Johnstone , and wee Moffat out there depth unfortunately, too wee and too timid . Ange hands were tied with what he could field last night and I think maybe the wool was pulled over his eyes with the ST mirren covid reports they had mostly there full team out . Soon we will know how serious the board want to win this league , how serious they are of lifting the 40 million that will ensure we stay top . And how serious they are of keeping them in there place and answerable for there own cheating . I’m not confident they are serious at all . HH

On another note, he must really not fancy McCarthy. Four-year contract.

Is this the “big mistake” McKay was “personal-reasoned” for?

    ___________________________________________________________________________________________

If that was the case then he was very hard done by as no former CEO/DofF was made to answer by a sacking for all the dozens of players signed who then played a handful of matches or possibly never played apart from last 5 minutes cameos. You could be right of course but that is giving zero latitude for someone just in the door, very unfair if true. I’d imagine he probably had a lot of ideas the Board just didn’t fancy, who knows pure speculation on my part, just like everyone else. Until McKay says something, which he won’t until he has retired we’ll never know.

The morning after the night before.

I think that’s seven points dropped between St Mirren and Livingston, bottom 6 fodder that should be meat and drink to a championship contender.

With Kygo, Jota and Turnbull out, McGregor and Rogic needed help. Neither was on his game and no one else stepped up. I hope that’s not lost on the manager.

    Bitterly, bitterly disappointing.

  10. I’m beginning to think Ange is a good coach but a poor manager.

He can get the best out of individuals, he can have he team play great football, but he can’t see beyond the next game and plan accordingly.

  11. How many corners did Celtic have last night?

How many of them were mis hit or off target?

How difficult is it for a full time professional footballer to learn to strike a dead ball so that it consistently arrives at head height along the six yard line?

  12. The Blogger Formerly Known As GM on

Ernie, he has to learn 3 points take priority to his “philosophy”.

If the personnel at your disposal aren’t good enough to execute your plan, you need new personnel or a new plan. The former’s not an option so his only choice was to do something radical. He chose not to.

    Very succinct summary!

  14. To see a team so lethargic from the off, says it all about a manger that cant really be arsed in a Aussie cool kinda way. Shucks, lets all love the dullard anyway.

  15. That game last night reminded me of the post European away tie hangover games.

Players without focus or motivation like they were physically and mentally drained by the excitement of winning the league cup.

    It’s worrying.

  16. Celtic carried very little threat, from the predictable jinks of Johnston who has zero end result, to square passes hoping Rogic would conjour something up, fact is none of the Centre Midfielders tried to get in the box everything was square, noone tried anything different , that is trusting a bit much on the system for me, it wasnt working and St Mirren played 2 banks of 5, dire anti football but the onus was on us to break it down we couldn’t, read Livingston the same we need players capable of hurting teams.

The squad isnt anywhere near stong enough look at the bench last night not a forward, Moffat is a B team prospect, Johnston can go anytime will never step up for Celtic 1st team

“Dullard” has won the first trophy of the season and has made us a far better team than we were last season.

    Get a grip.

  18. Cannot believe some of the negativity on here after last night.

Ange is not a one trick pony he has just been unlucky.

He has Ajeti as a hold up player in the box, injured.

He has perpetual motion in Kyoko, injured.

He brings in our Greek striker to give us a physical presence in the box ,injured.

He brings in an explosive wide man Jota ,injured.

    There’s your strike force .

And some are blaming Ange .Unbelievable.HH

  19. The news this morning that we’ll likely be without Kyogo and Rogic for the huns match due to their international qualifiers is just a massive disappointment. It feels like it’s slipping away. One more draw or loss and it certainly will be.

  20. One argument for playing everyone who could pass a medical in a meaningless dead rubber European game, and a league cup final was that wins would buoy up the team, boost morale and help motivate them to go on to bigger and better things.

    Hasn’t worked out that way.

100%. Ange has proved he is a winner already and he should be given the time to make the team his own.

Love to gear how he could do better or maybe who would be a better manager for us?

  25. I think some posters on here (442 is one that I can remember) are simply unable to step off their own hamster wheel thinking and make a proper assessment of what can be seen out there. Ange had a lot of building to do and that hasn’t changed after 6 months. The fact that he’s done so well has ignited the passions of the immediate gratification gang again! “We’re Celtic and therefore We must beat everyone, NOW”! That only ultimately leads to cynicism and a lack of respect for everyone – manager, players, and even fellow supporters. Ange has made it clear about the lack of squad depth, about the inevitability of injuries and about the need to strengthen. I for one am happy to see what he can do if he gets proper support. I believe he can accomplish a lot. Of course some of our players have their limitations and if they didn’t have any they would be in a top 4 EPL team. I frequently watch EPL football and anyone who does can tell you not all players play well, not all good players play well every game. I’ve even commented to my son that watching Arsenal at times has been embarrassing after watching Ange’s Celtic. So there you go. Keep positive, keep supporting the manager and encouraging the players while they are with us. Don’t let negativity, the need for immediate gratification and cynicism rule and ruin your support for Celtic.

  26. Last night was just like watching the Livingston games over again.

As long as Ange is going to stubbornly stick to his 433 structure and tactics, we are going to experience more games like last night.

I have not seen him make a real tactical change in any game, with regards formation.

  27. December was the ‘acid test’ – we have failed it. The whys & wherefores don’t matter, only the points gap does.

Nothing is settled yet, but our direction of travel this season surely is.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and can be a refuge for the cynical…..but how many, in seeing last night’s line-up, were filled with confidence?

We are injury ravaged are we not?

The manager had very little options but don’t let the facts get in the way of a good moan…
