Glen D- very similar to the tackle on Engels v Bayern Munich, both were penalties IMO

    PICINISCO,

I think a decision was taken in Belfast on Friday about VAR and offside. It seems a toenail won’t count. The whole body has to be offside (I think that is what has been determined). This was a meeting between FIFA and the UK FAs.”

What if we are short of the whole body by a toenail?

    Completely agree with you .

What gets me is the way the media are focussing on it as if it’s some kind of scandal . Anything they can do to detract from Celtic gets banner headlines . We all know why of course .

  4. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

I think there are varying degrees of culpability with the two penalty incidents.

Was it Upamecano who stood on Arne?

For me, probably not a penalty but close.

Guy was bringing his foot back to the ground when he gave Arne a sore one.

    I think yesterday’s was a penalty.

Not a stonewaller by any means but just over the threshold for me.

Can understand – based on current guidance on follow through – why it was not given and not overturned.

Was AJ in control? Yes, but only a little bit.

Did he touch the ball? Yes, but only a little bit.

Was there force in the contact? Yes.

Did Idowu plant his foot to engineer contact?

    Maybe but not massively so.

I think we got away with one when the score was 2-3.

    Fully understand St Mirren’s frustration.

  5. MONDAY 2ND

Much to the distaste of the Screws we ended the no-wash protest this morning. We moved to ‘B’ wing, which was allegedly clean.

We have shown considerable tolerance today. Men are being searched coming back from the toilet. At one point men were waiting three hours to get out to the toilet, and only four or five got washed, which typifies the eagerness (sic) of the Screws to have us off the no-wash. There is a lot of petty vindictiveness from them.

I saw the doctor and I’m 64 kgs. I’ve no problems.

The priest, Fr John Murphy, was in tonight. We had a short talk. I heard that my mother spoke at a parade in Belfast yesterday and that Marcella cried. It gave me heart. I’m not worried about the numbers of the crowds. I was very annoyed last night when I heard Bishop Daly’s statement (issued on Sunday, condemning the hunger-strike). Again he is applying his double set of moral standards. He seems to forget that the people who murdered those innocent Irishmen on Derry’s Bloody Sunday are still as ever among us; and he knows perhaps better than anyone what has and is taking place in H-Block.

He understands why men are being tortured here — the reason for criminalisation. What makes it so disgusting, I believe, is that he agrees with that underlying reason. Only once has he spoken out, of the beatings and inhumanity that are commonplace in H-Block.

I once read an editorial, in late ’78, following the then Archbishop O Fiaich’s ‘sewer pipes of Calcutta’ statement. It said it was to the everlasting shame of the Irish people that the archbishop had to, and I paraphrase, stir the moral conscience of the people on the H-Block issue. A lot of time has passed since then, a lot of torture, in fact the following year was the worst we experienced.

Now I wonder who will stir the Cardinal’s moral conscience…

Bear witness to both right and wrong, stand up and speak out. But don’t we know that what has to be said is ‘political’, and it’s not that these people don’t want to become involved in politics, it’s simply that their politics are different, that is, British.

My dear friend Tomboy’s father died today. I was terribly annoyed, and it has upset me.

I received several notes from my family and friends. I have only read the one from my mother — it was what I needed. She has regained her fighting spirit — I am happy now.

My old friend Seanna (Walsh, a fellow blanket man) has also written.

I have an idea for a poem, perhaps tomorrow I will try to put it together.

Every time I feel down I think of Armagh, and James Connolly. They can never take those thoughts away from me.

  6. I thought our denied Engels pen against Bayern was a stonewaller. No matter what angle and what speed the replays showed it was still a penalty.

“Getting the ball first has no relation (in the rules) to whether it’s a foul or not.”

We were robbed on that ocassion by European officials

Yes it was a penalty yesterday, but I suppose it depends on what rules are being observed on the day.

No great surprise it wasn’t given and no sympathy from me.

    HH, the journey continues.

Two early, great goals followed by 35 mins of pretty dire fitba.

And this is Hibs and Hearts on a buoyant run ??

Routinely see better quality games in the A-league.

    Capital punishment right enough.

  10. The whole penalty / no penalty thing last night not helped by Sutton taking his recent usual anti Celtic / pro rangers stance immediately before anyone else has an input.

    Ticket Information

Tickets for the match against Hibs are now available on sale to eligible Season Ticket holders.

Following discussions with Hibs and in accordance with competition rules, the visiting club’s ticket allocation has been increased to 7,000.

Due to the increased away ticket allocation, some seasonal seats are unavailable for this match.

  16. As well as goalkeepers having to get the ball back into play with in 8 seconds, a bigger time wasting issue is at by kicks , same 8 seconds time limit should apply

  17. Good 2-1 win for Hibernian against their old rivals, puts them in third place in the SPL, at least for now.

No doubt they will be up for the Cup next week, and with 7000 tickets made available, may well have the support to drive them on. Kinda reminds of some of the Cup ties from times gone by, as in a different kind of atmosphere from a regular league game. And as in one to win.

  18. Good Afternoon Celts…

Good Scottish game yesterday, we had to be up to their physicality.

BR&CO managed the game phenomenally well.

At 2-2 the game could have gone either way and Celtic looked weary and out of ideas, it was a brave move to take the Captain off but what a difference the subs made.

On the obligatory hour mark Idah made way Jota, Calmac made way for McCowan and Kuhn made way for Yang.

It wasn’t only the personel changes that made the difference.

Meada and Engels moving to the centre were inspired.

Of course we’ve seen Meada doing this many times now, yet with Engels in the central holding role the midfield was transformed.

Hatate and McCowan were awesome – the 3-0 last half hour didn’t flatter Celtic at all.

So difficult to pick three out, yet Yang was inspired, two goals and an assist – so the sub gets MoTM for me.

I’m going with Schmeichel an awe, his first half keeping, not just his saves kept the scores level – not much he could do about the St Mirren goals.

The third spot is difficult, Engels again looked supreme, Hatate real came onto a game, McCowan’s energy helped changed the game, Deadly Diazen was great as per… yet for me with a great game and a goal and an assist Schlupp gets the third spot.

So winging it’s way to SENCELPOTY@GMAIL.COM

    1. Yang

    2. Schlupp

    3. Schmeichel

Kwon didn’t make the starting line-up and not called off the bench either.

Not encouraging for his prospects of nailing a start in our first team squad.

  20. Had a wee, quick visit on Fascist Fascist, just to sample their love for their club. Some unhappy chaps and chapesses over there, it would seem.

My favourite comment (slightly redacted for obvious reasons) at least shows they are not all entirely thick:

“Who would have thought that three failed managers, no matter how staunch cannot turn these c**ts into a team. Pathetic.”

    Bless
