The most striking aspect of our preseason games is just how synchronised everyone is. We look like a team in every sense of the word. Contrast that with the disjointed look we had at the start of last season, with then new manager Brendan Rodgers changing things around. Or worse, those early days of Ange Postecoglou, when we fielded a defence of Ralston, Welsh, Murray and Taylor in a Champions League qualifier.
Celtic will start the season on Sunday with a settled team and manager, and should make good headway early in the season as a result. There will no doubt be disruption before the end of August, though. Players will arrive into the first team, while none of us will be confident of keeping Matt O’Riley until the window closes. Stability never lasts long in football.

I admit to having been utterly confused by Olympic Tennis.
Watched Murray/Evans lose 2nd set tie-break to go 1-1.
Went out to see my son & granddaughter to his car. Returned for third set to see the start of another tie-break.
I thought — how long was I away? Soon realised third set goes straight to tie-break in Olympics.
Further confused when tie-break wasn’t over at 7-5.
Well done Andy.
Small doll birthday tomorrow. I may have to behave.
.
The snowline has become the no lane, ffs celtic get your finger out ànd go sign some good players to improve the squad ffs

Genuine question 2 : What do people on here (and elsewhere) think Celtic are holding onto money for?
‐–‐——–
Another rainy day, al a Covid.
Unforseen circumstances could be round the corner.
We did not take the SG loan. We were prudent rightly or wrongly.
Has any team paid the taxoayer back yet ?

A friend just messaged this to me.
30 years ago today …. we took a road trip.
Great memories.
Steph, it’s summer and the snow line has long disappeared. Instead of dreaming of the mountains I’d suggest you head to blanket bay.
Good night and God bless 👍
Great to see Andy Murray winning yet again.

Thank you for reply.
Not sure on the SG loan to be honest.
Max available was (I think) £3.2m ?
Plus was interest free so not onerous to service.
R2ngers will never repay it but that’s for another time.
As for Adam Idah … an earlier poster’s comment might have been tongue in cheek but I agree this does not reflect well on the young man.
I’ve been reluctant to support the “just pay them what they want” mantra (IMHO it is silly and uninformed).
But I think Celtic should push this hard now and get the deal done quickly even if it means a few more shekels than planned leave the building.
Could turn messy.
We didn’t take advantage of the Covid relief loan, we had enough cash in the bank and still be able to blow a load on the rubbish we bought in the Summer window
One of the benefits of a big cash pile, we came out of our worst season in good health
As for Idah, we’ve done the hard work, held our nerve under the pressure of the hysteria to get him on the plane before our prestigious tour or our first game in the spl and now we can do a deal that suits us instead of what suits Norwich.
It’s worth millions to us, add it to the Bernardo deal and it adds up to another quality player
We hold all the cards now, were often on the end of it the other way round.

Bernardo having medical
Idah on his way
Patience pays
Dont know if downing tools is genuine.
Never a good option. As we as Celtic supporters know only too well.
Addressing growing frustration growing among fans at the pace of the transfer activity, McGregor predicted more additions to the squad before another tilt at the Champions League.
‘We have to have a little bit of patience and trust the guys that are in those positions to do the job,’ he said
“Everybody wants everything at the drop of a hat and sometimes you have to bide your time and be patient and trust the process. That is where we are as a club at the minute – and the players know there are quality players to come in.’

I know what you’re saying, unfortunately loyalty is a rare thing these days in football.
And we seem to have either short memories or be able to forgive disloyalty pretty easily (provided its to our benefit) so I’m not sure we can be too hard on Adam
Dearie me. What you have to endure just to login here
That bloody window. Open for months
Daily Mail online has Paolo Bernardo having a medical on Tuesday night.
McGowan is supposed to have inside links to Celtic but…….
It is the Mail and it’s a lying Tory rag so believe it or not
SFTB,
Ha the Daily Mail you say.
Talking conspiracy theories, that have been proven true.

Good morning all from Govanhill. A lovely day in old Glasgow Town. What larks, Pip.
BRRB…
I would like to wish ” Mrs BRRB/ M” a very Happy Birthday Today.
God Bless her.
HH.
Birthday wishes to the most patient small doll in Glasgow.
Hope you are getting better too, Big Jimmy.
Shankland for Celtic, don’t think so ,anyway I can’t imagine him signing for us,as for Idah forget about him.
As I have mentioned before,2 of our best friends here are Norwich fanatics.Last season when we took him on loan, they gave me the rundown. They quite liked him but the majority of fans did not.Never popula when he played. The club would have punted him for buttons. We take him,he gets a new lease of life with us,and loves it.We offer 4.5 million, way over what they were looking for,but the club try to squeeze more, ignoring the players wishes. As it stands.
This morning we have James Forrest still acting demented telling
us.4.5 million is insulting,he saysHard to know what to offer when Norwich wont play, won’t negotiate. We put 4.5 down. Then .He slaughtered us for saving money on Bernardo as well.Benfica, who are probably the best
example of traders, see the Jota sell on,will probably never do business with us again.Aye right.
As long as we don’t panic and buy Hardlyscores Kvistgaarden.

Thinking about Matt’s move
Juventus have finally put in a bid for Koopmeiners. They’re notorious for screwing every cent out of transfer deals so they will have gone in lower than the fee they’ll pay, and it will take some time, but Juventus normally get their man after lots of shenanigans. And he agreed terms in May so it will happen
You would think that means it opens the way for an increased bid for Matt but not necessarily. They’ve already signed Zaniolo from Galatasaray for a €6.5m loan fee with an obligation to buy. That isn’t the same as the deal with Bernardo, he will move next summer for a set fee regardless.
Zaniolo does fit in with their recruitment model, he was Roma’s big hope when he was younger his form fell away but at 25 he’s still young enough for them to turn things round. They sign players like him anyway – they did it with De Ketelaere who was a massive flop at Milan after going there young but was instrumental in their success last season. So Zaniolo might not be Koopmeiners direct replacement in the squad. Or they may be looking at a couple of players.
What they won’t do spend all the money from Kiopmeiners on a replacement. All signings fit in the model that’s been so successful. Matt fits, but only at the right price, regardless of cash in the bank (€50m recently). They will have carefully worked out his value and won’t go over it and his value will be calculated in a number of things, one of which, unfortunately for us will be the league he’s played in
If you look at how big money sales from the SPL have done in top 5 leagues you’ll see why no one wants to pay what we think he’s worth. Tierney was the best talent we’ve seen in the SPL for a long time, he’s no longer wanted at Arsenal, only Van Dijk has excelled in a bigger league in the last ten years. Bassey was the standout Sevco player in their UEFA cup run, he was a laughing stock at Ajax. The Scottish player of the year was a reserve keeper in the epl a year ago.
Scottish football is not a good testing ground for talent. It’s why EPL teams pay big fees for average players from other EPL teams – there’s much less risk.
So any fee for Matt has an SPL risk premium, and a club like Atalanta, who are so reliant on player trading profit and who take a scientific approach to their signings, will be even more mindful of it than Southampton who have a very different need and different development horizon for him.
Atalanta would need to be near their transfer record for him to go for the sort of money we want, which I can’t see happening. We need a desperate EPL club with gaps to fill and cash to spend, but that won’t be the sort of club that would be of interest to Matt, I wouldn’t have thought
