The most striking aspect of our preseason games is just how synchronised everyone is. We look like a team in every sense of the word. Contrast that with the disjointed look we had at the start of last season, with then new manager Brendan Rodgers changing things around. Or worse, those early days of Ange Postecoglou, when we fielded a defence of Ralston, Welsh, Murray and Taylor in a Champions League qualifier.
Celtic will start the season on Sunday with a settled team and manager, and should make good headway early in the season as a result. There will no doubt be disruption before the end of August, though. Players will arrive into the first team, while none of us will be confident of keeping Matt O’Riley until the window closes. Stability never lasts long in football.

A wee aside,
Celtic park half 5 on a close season saturday i was suprised how many people were going into the kerrydale, and I can see where monies are being spent, others might just not see it.
At the sametime though, the announcment of closure for cineworld parkhead after tesco closing a couple of years ago, more new housing on the gallowgate, the demolition of the belgrove at last, New housing to buy at the meat market, and further gentification of the calton.
i also went passed saint marys, and new housing getting built right on top of where celtic were founded, not a plaque, not a billboard, not a marker.
that also leaves me thinking what happened to the “annfield hall” sign at the bellgrove.
Oreily and Hatate were the main reason Celtic played slick fast accurate football pre season. Their ability to take passes in tight spaces and turn to connect the team was a joy to watch. Hatate was immense against Chelsea and looked physically stronger.
IF we lose them during this window , I have zero confidence we will replace their quality. This Celtic recruiting team can’t replace talent with months of notice (goalkeeper , left back, strikers eg) , let alone last minute transfer replacements.
I hope we have contingency if we lose quality – concerning times since they are the heartbeat of this team and would be very very difficult to replace and fit into a well drilled team.
i am worried about the season after the next one, what are celtic doing to plan for that one,
and on and on and on.
I watched the Celtic Way podcast this morning and couldn’t believe my ears when one contributor — Tony Haggerty — said, “Celtic should just give Matt O’Riley what he wants to get him to stay.”
Matt hasn’t uttered a single word about being unhappy or wanting more money. His contract was extended a year ago.
Took me right back to the old Radio Clyde phone-in days when the 3 Amigos were demanding more money mid-contract.
“McCann should just give them what they want.”
That’s one podcast chalked off my watchlist.

I admire your indefatigable posting and balanced perspective.
Some folk are never happier than sowing seeds of discontent. They hate others success.
Even worse when they have never walked the talk and base all arguments on rumour and supposition.

Thanks for the updates. Raring to get back there on Sunday.

Yet another one slaughtering the club for losing Matt and Reo.
The Daily Record editor will be loving you.
Stephbhoy
Worth remembering both O Riley and Reo were signed by Celtic once upon a time and both did slot in to the team very quickly and very effectively.
There were times last season when neither were really ‘on it’ though. 25,000 at Hampden wanted Hatate hooked with 30 mins to go and similar but earlier v rangers at Celtic park a month earlier.
I do totally agree it would not be the best to lose both with no back up.

For the absense of doubt my last point was stating the bleeding obvious.
Brilliant from Brendan

Absolutely. If they go they will go.
I am sure we will have a plan B and C.
Does the DR have a editor 🤔 from the pish their journalists produce he must be asleep. Even their leaders are unstructured sentences glued together to form a meaningless paragraph 🙄
Anyone looking for an amusing 20 mins or so.
The ff thread asking
Where will rangers be in 10 years is hilarious.
Pennies and even David Murray’s famous pound is dropping
No wonder this amazing “former” Catholic Arch Bishop was excommunicated from the now “fake” Church which has been infiltrated by the zio book and stuff.
Just look at how the park was half empty the last time the “fake” Pope appeared in Ireland.
What he mentioned is symbolic of the desecration of Western society in general and to think that Dim Dimmy`s voted for these desectators in Scotland for the past 17 years!
Should check out this outstanding human beings views on the plandemic farce as well as his views on the Olympics in France at the weekend and btw he mentions the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012 were they told the world that the Covid 19 deception was on the way 8 years before it happened!
Wow!

For the first time ever I had a look on FF , couldn’t find the discussion you mentioned, couldn’t believe how many threads they have and how many contribute.
I did however come across a discussion on Steve Coogan, someone described him as a plastic paddy , there then followed, much to my surprise, a whole list of posters defending him.
This prompted a link to the Alan Partridge show of Coogan’s Irish character singing, come out you Black and Tans. So glad I looked in.
To be honest it made a pleasant change from so many on here moaning even though we win just about everything these days.

I also couldn’t find the FF thread recommended by B78.
Maybe he has the handshake pass and we don’t. 🤔

“Did he stick to this moneyball strategy
No he never R2ngers were making progress under Steven Gerrard and Big Pedro wanted to ensure his legacy would be complete…
He gave Lenny a 35 mn warchest, Lenny spent it on 4mn, 5mn, 6mn l, 7mn pound players.
Interesting when push comes to shove even the architect of moneyball abandons it.
So you don’t have to be a footballing genius to recognise a failed recruitment policy”
———————————
This is kind of a “shoot yourself in the foot” kind of argument.
You acknowledge that we did what critics had been asking for and loosened our purse strings. We retained Edouard and Ajer- we bought in Barkas, Ajeti and Turnbull- established players at their clubs. We used the loan system to bring in Shane Duffy, Elyonoussi, Diego Laxalt and Johnjoe Kenny- 3 full internationalists and 1 experienced England under 21 internationalist- all 4 are still young enough to be playing at a decent level now when they are 4 years older.
So this change from “Moneybag” was implemented and what happened? Did the outside advice and pressure from non-genius football fans, altering a failed recruitment policy, lead us on the shining path to success?
No- it led to us losing a league by 25 full points
So we had “Moneybag” before and we won 9 league titles. We reverted to Moneybag after this and won 3 more titles. So which policy should we follow, I wonder?
Maybe you could mount a Liz Truss Defence and say it was a winning strategy, it was just undermined from within by Peter Lawwell Deep State? Or you could try the Scooby Doo defence of “We would have got away with it if it wasn’t for those Pesky Kids (in Suits)”?
Good afternoon all from the Victoria Bar. Looking forward to Sunday and Almore buying me copious amounts of beer 🍺.
See Adam Idah has succumbed to a slight knock which kept him out of the Norwich game last Friday. This may be a genuine knock or the start of toys out the pram behaviour.
I had hoped that Paulo and Bernardo would be unveiled this weekend, coming on to the pitch carrying the Scottish Cup , in a sort of girfupy moment.

I might roll up a trouser leg and see if that works.
Certainly won’t be worrying any goats.
Looking forward to Sunday. We are going to the Bavaria Brauhaus for a meal at 8:00 so if any of the Bhoys are in the Shipbank I could drop in and say hello.
Doh
I had hoped that Paulo and Bernardo = Paulo and Adam
BTW Going to the Bavaria Brauhaus on the Saturday night.

Winning or losing friendlies,I agree should not be seen, normally,as anything special. This American Tour turned that thinking on its head. This was a new Celtic. This was a new way of playing. The style of play was unrecognisable from the same players,a few names missing, who won the double last year.
The playing out from the keeper, the transition to midfield, the constant movement creating space, and the patience to wait, resulting in killer passes to lightning quick forwards. For the 3 games the choreography was constant. The sucking of teams in,then the little ball over to the forwards again. The precision was fantastic.
BR and his staff have done an incredible job in the close season.Bonus would have been having REO and Matt, two key components.Think, when was the last time you saw these two,in acres of space it was happening so often. The whole unit worked like dream. And this against top players. The beauty of it,they made it look simple.

Just a reminder that SPFL Superbru starts back on Saturday at 12.30.
It is a competition to see who can predict the results of 6 or more SPFL matches in each gameweek of the season from August to May. You get 3 points for predicting an exact score, 1.5 points for being close to an exact score and 1 point for forecasting the correct outcome, home win, draw or away win but not getting the score right. You get 0 points for an incorrect prediction.
We are only looking for a £10 entry fee this season as it will not be a main fund raising vehicle more a bit of fun. We will still put 50% of monies raised towards the prize fund but winnings will be smaller than in previous years. That is because we will be encouraging all participants to join our Last Man Standing competitions which will be run 3 or 4 times throughout the season and should raise a lot more- details to follow later in the season.
For the next 5 days- the priority is to join the Superbru Pool again- and to send your £10 entrance fee to the Walk With Shay account, giving your own name or Superbru moniker so we can monitor payments have been made. Join first- pay later.
Encourage any Celtic supporter who may be interested to join in. Anyone who played last year is enrolled automatically. All other may have to wait a few hours until I am on site and approve their applications.
The site name is Superbru.com- there is an app for phone or PC.Use the “join a pool” option and type in our pool name – Quick News Quinta Sentinels. Use the password inkshoed .
We already have 48 members- we are hoping to break 60 again this year so get a move on and thanks to those who already have and to those who have paid and donated.
