Stability never lasts long in football

446

The most striking aspect of our preseason games is just how synchronised everyone is.  We look like a team in every sense of the word.  Contrast that with the disjointed look we had at the start of last season, with then new manager Brendan Rodgers changing things around.  Or worse, those early days of Ange Postecoglou, when we fielded a defence of Ralston, Welsh, Murray and Taylor in a Champions League qualifier.

Celtic will start the season on Sunday with a settled team and manager, and should make good headway early in the season as a result.  There will no doubt be disruption before the end of August, though.  Players will arrive into the first team, while none of us will be confident of keeping Matt O’Riley until the window closes.  Stability never lasts long in football.

Wasn’t it bankers who were at fault for the banking crisis?

  2. Well I knew Toney from a casual interest in teir 3 English football and I knew McClair as he came from Airdrie.

So it really depends where you are coming from

Of course I also knew Matt O’Riley from a casual interest in English tier 3 football…

    The 2020/21 recruitment was good

Lenny and big Pedro had left the building

Recruitment over the next couple of years would prove that knowledgeable folk running the recruitment can produce great results

That good players will come to Scotland

That you don’t have to pay a fortune for quality

Matt O’Riley, Kyogo, Hatate etc did not look out of place against the EPL elite

    Ronny Delia bought Ajer

    Brendan Rodgers bought Odsonne Edouard

We got a lot from both these players

We sold both these players for a profit

    Hail Hail

I gave you this info before.

    …………………………………………………………………

Ivan Toney has revealed he held talks with Rangers and Celtic over a move north of the border before joining Brentford.

The England international made the switch to the Bees from Peterborough while still in the English Championship and he helped shoot them to promotion before showing his ability in the English Premier League. The 27-year-old – currently serving an eight-month ban from the game for breaching FA betting rules – had a chat with both Steven Gerrard and Neil Lennon but opted to remain in England.

Opening up on the interest from both sides of the Old Firm divide, Toney told The Diary of a CEO podcast : “I did speak to other clubs. I actually went up to Rangers and spoke with the manager there, which was Steven Gerrard at the time. We spoke a bit, but there were two strikers at the time and they were looking to bring another one in, so there would’ve been four strikers. I think the formation that they played, the majority of the time was one striker up top. So I would have been third choice, something like this.

“We went to Celtic, we spoke to Celtic and I think it was the same there. I’m one of three strikers or something like this. I think at the time when I was moving, I wanted to be the main guy.

“The crucial thing for me is playing games. Even though I back myself and compete with other strikers, I want everyone to know that when I’m bursting through the door, I’m the main man up front.

“I feel like when I spoke to the manager at Brentford, he pretty much said you’re the main guy and I don’t see anybody taking your spot. So make sure you produce the goods, it’s yours really.”

“It’s not moneyball, though, even if you put it in inverted commas. It’s nothing like it

£250mn down the drain, yes I think we’ve gathered that..;)

    Hail Hail

  8. No way are we paying 7.3 for a back up….not a chance!!!……I’d be inclined to agree with them.

Tommy Conway for half the price might be a decent alternative

  9. Good to see a lot of fans making noise about protests regarding this board, keep it coming I say.

4.5 million for Oh & we’ve still not have it towards Norwich with another 2 & a half on Idah, charlatans this board who are shafting BR again in another transfer window.

    Get them out now.

  10. Celtic really stalling over Adam Idah because of £1.5 million

Our board really are an embarrassment 😂

  11. Tom McLaughlin on

    CHAIRBOY . . .

. . . Has been on CQN for 3 days in a row arguing about the pros and cons of Celtic’s recruitment.

A one trick pony or an unhealthy obsession.

    Who knows?

    Who cares?

  12. Yeh lets have another flag day protest

The shiteswipes who fed and stoked up anti fergus sentiment are at work again

Looking for something to talk of for the next 25 years

  15. We don’t need a defensive midfielder!

    We need a

    left back

    Left sided centre half

    and

    Adam Idah !!!!

  16. And keep MOR for one more season.

Now that would make the bun’s sphincters twitch.

and we would be able to watch Ch league games without hiding behind the couch.

  17. Same bog roll that gave us thugs and theives and 5 years of murrays lamb,’ran it by David anti Celtic pash culminating on the dummies who gullibly swallowed their shoite booing Fergus.

  18. Rekord

    Pucker!

Start with F end in D and hopefully will die soon aa sales dive lower than the sewers it comes from

  19. Taurangabhoy on

Citeh and chelski didn’t have 11 man defenses and mibs. It will come down to the 4 bun games. Brendan lives in their heads and our bhoys know how to beat them so we will win 4iar but not by a huge points margin.

  20. Good Morning Celts – Grand Day To Be A Tim…

    SCULLYBHOY @ 10:56 PM,

Yes, we discussed a few reports around the time and events, including what Barry Fry said and what he said about Nick Hammond.

The bottom line though is some think Toney would have been a good signing, some a poor signing and some that he would never have come.

My point really was the recruitment at that time was poor…

…Ajeti, Barkas, Bolingoli, Klimala etc etc 35 mn pound badly spent in my opinion.

But I certainly take your point.

    AN TEARMANN @ 12:03 AM,

Yes, I try to give examples of players, try to give quotes, dates and timescales, try to give prices and cash available.

Yet often you all you get is fallacies, hearsay and ad hominem attacks.

The level of debate has certainly slipped.

Still with a decade of recruitment examples to work on, we should know; what works, what fails and what is hit and miss…

Have a great day fholks – aff oot

    Hail Hail
