Stability never lasts long in football

446

The most striking aspect of our preseason games is just how synchronised everyone is.  We look like a team in every sense of the word.  Contrast that with the disjointed look we had at the start of last season, with then new manager Brendan Rodgers changing things around.  Or worse, those early days of Ange Postecoglou, when we fielded a defence of Ralston, Welsh, Murray and Taylor in a Champions League qualifier.

Celtic will start the season on Sunday with a settled team and manager, and should make good headway early in the season as a result.  There will no doubt be disruption before the end of August, though.  Players will arrive into the first team, while none of us will be confident of keeping Matt O’Riley until the window closes.  Stability never lasts long in football.

An Tearmann, if reports about his weekly wage at Sevco are accurate ( I know) has he taken a large pay cut as there is no way a club in Cyprus are paying any player that much each week? Was he also given a sweetener from Ibrox/Hampden to make sure he’s off the payroll?

  7. Hun firesale in full swing with Goldson off to Cyprus , expect Tavpen to be off soon as well. Although a pair of dumplings , they were big dumplings and against the rest of the Scottish league could impose themselves.

Expect the Hun to go down the loan route for the centre half replacement…. we need. to get our transducers over the line.

AT – I wonder if Tavpen is allowed to include his guaranteed Sevco penalty quota per season as part of any deal?

If so, Sevco could break the Scottish transfer record :-)

Getting rid of Tavpen could back fire on them. Yes he’s a pish poor defender however his penalty success rate is significant. Yes they’ll still get a disproportionate amount of penalties but will his replacement be as efficient 🤔

Prestonpans – don’t forget we have a new head of refereeing who will put a stop to the cheating 🤔

Yes the Collum thing will be interesting, he can’t maintain the status quo, so let’s see what he comes up with!

Agree with previous posts that Southampton FC is an unattractive destination for 23 year old Matt O’Riley.

His goal against Chelsea got me thinking

How many players in the EPL could score that goal?

I came up with about ten.

If spread evenly across 10 clubs that means there are ten other clubs who currently do not have a player capable of scoring that type of goal.

    Matt should be aiming higher.

  18. BTW

I once won a 4 v 4 beach volleyball tournament at a campsite in France.

I teamed up with 2 Dutch lads and a lassie form Dublin. In the final we played a ^ft 4 German dad with his wife and their two twins who were ranked number 1 in their age group in Germany but we beat them.

I forgot to add that those words ranked twins were two 12 year old girls- kind of takes the edge of the achievement.

I can claim the winning point however. I was playing in sunglasses and a back to front baseball cap and the Big German Father absolutely smashed a spike through my block right into my face, but my oddly shaped face managed to rebound the ball back over the net and onto the sidelines, I took the acclaim with my sunglasses at a 45 degree angle and my hat removed from my head.

P.S. The Scottish Beach Volleyball open was regularly held at Balmedy Beach near Aberdeen if you ever wanted to see some absolutely freezing Scottish lassies. I believe they have now moved it to the North Inch in Perth which is hardly any warmer.

  19. The reason we didn’t get the 10 was the manner of Lennon throwing some players under a bus ,not Lawells fault ,the biggest mistake he made was reappointing. Lennon.

The standard of play you will witness at the WC is exponentially higher than what you’d see on Portobello, Balmedy or the North Inch. It’s the difference between Champions League and Genuine Pub teams, honestly.

In the UK we invest so much in the colonial sports of Rugby Cricket etc- played by very few countries, and invest in the posh boy sports of Equestrian, sailing and rowing because they are soft-medal opportunities, played by First world countries only.

We neglect the mass participation sports of Basketball, Volleyball and Handball which are much better for fitness and health and don’t need large pitch spaces.

Despite our mono-culture with football, a small nation like Lithuania would absolutely rub a UK Basketball or Volleyball team and still get quite close to our best football 11.
